Loan Signing Possible Before Deadline
Thursday, 28th Aug 2014 15:06

Boss Mick McCarthy says he could add a loan player to his squad before the transfer window closes on Monday at 11pm, although there will be no one new in the squad before the weekend trip to Derby.

“I don’t know,” he said when asked if there are likely to be any additions before the deadline. “Maybe there’ll be somebody in, it’ll probably be a loan if that’s the case.

“I’m just hoping there’s nobody out. If the phone rings it’s always about what people perceive as our best players, so I don’t want to lose anybody else.”

One of this morning’s tabloids claims Blues centre-half Tommy Smith is a target of new Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock, but McCarthy says he’s not been contacted about any of his players.

“No, not directly, not at all. There’s always talk all the time about everybody’s players but nobody’s rang me up and said ‘I want to do X’.”

He says there has been no movement regarding transfer-listed striker Frank Nouble, while he confirmed that Jack Collison and Darren Ambrose continue to train with the Blues and will play in Monday’s U21 game at Portman Road against Sheffield Wednesday (KO 7pm).

ipswich4life Why wouldn't fans want Walters back? Keane treated him like the psychotic feckwitt he is and after Walters had played injured for him for most of the prior 12 months. He had the chance to play in the premiership, which wasn't even a vague prospect under Keane.. I'd welcome him back with no problems at all but that's not going to happen. He's on the bench at the moment but that could change and if he was available other prem teams would take him for certain.

Not exactly inspiring is it!

I'm beginning to get seriously worried now. What the hell is the plan - far from building on last season we are going backwards fast!!

I guess season long loans better than emergency loans. Collision and Ambrose can sign at any time so there won't be any rush there

Keano always praised him said he was best player in championship made him captain but let's blame keno anyway we got as much as we did for Walters coz keno was happy for him to rot in reserves keno got this one 100% right.

Just one? Surely we need significantly more? We have just let four go, and replaced with just Sammon, not withstanding the players we are down on last season. This squad us painfully thin.

I hope no one else leaves. We know ME won't make the cash available, so would be pointless.

jas0999. hes not saying we only getting one in on loan. just that we may have one in before the end of the transfer window. we can still sign more when the loan window opens a week later. why are most on here so negative? with a couple of loans, plus hunt and stewart due back, plus the poss signings of collisson and/or ambrose. the squad size would soon increase. like many im far from happy with the quality of our football(and we're stuck with that while mm in charge, but like many on here I will not criticise just for the sake of it. just get behind the club, the time to criticise will be if the squad isn't strengthened and we start to struggle badly. then u moaners can have a field day. and ill probably be joining in. till then ill support the team ive backed for over 40 years. be nice to see others doing the same. remember guys, you should support your club whether things going well or not. and trust me, ive been there in the best times, and the worst. and always will be.

jas0999 you ME comment is laughable. We are working within the FFP rules. Every season ME puts the maximum into the club... he can't just stick his hand in his pocket and hand over cash unless we intend to break the rules. The only way MM will have more to spend is if the club as a business is generating more income. Nottingham forest have possibly side stepped their issues with their ghost sponsorship of the stadium... but I prefer the idea that the business is run on a more sustainable level, because if it wasn't we would be F%%ked without his cash. If you want to criticise ME, his appointment of Keane was a huge error. We were a decent side and keane ripped the side to pieces and started again... we needed someone who would take Jim's side and imporove it, not go back to square one and start again. Also Jewell was an error in hindsight(Which as we all know is a pointless skill). If MM had replaced Jim, we'd have been back in the prem before now.

Williams and Kebbe plz. Dont see either being allowed though. RE Wakters, I don't know if Keanes version of events was true, not saying it wasnt but Keano has always talked B******s so. ....

The ONE he's McCarthy is referring to: It's totally obvious
He can play in 4 positions so he'll make up for those he's let go.
A Jack of all trades.
As regards Walters. Nope, that is in the past and he'd struggle in today's inept team.
I thought his Walters wife had an influence in that, as she was / preferred living in the west country to sleepy Suffolk.

....... I just can't believe we are in such a mess with an atrociously small squad only a few games into a new season - What went on during the close season ? ... NOTHING very much, other than ship players out. What's gone on since ? .... we've shipped even more players out, and the squad is painfully inadequate and absolutely thread bare.

How can we believe anything other than the Owner and Manager, couldn't really care two hoots about the future of our once great Club.

God Help Us ........ we need some from somewhere.

@monkeyblue, FFP is a load of crap, bout time you realised it. When no sanctions are put in place against the teams who have flaunted it, we will have stood still for the past 2-3 seasons that we have prepared for it and then followed it so strictly!! Evans has hidden behind it, as he isnt interested anymore. After the previous 2 managers I can sorta understand why, Keane backfired and Jewell was a disaster. Evans isnt a football man and nor are his trusty MD's or clegg before them. Ticket prices are ridiculous and Mick prob would bring in better players if he was allowed to do so, but he has his hands tied sadly.

Well said MM when the phone rings it is usually about my better players ....that's why as soon as Paul Taylor and Anthony Wordsworth were available there were teams in for them straight away....... and also that's why no one has been in for different class Nouble..as yet.

James Wilson looked decent coming on for Man Utd in midweek, plenty of driving runs from
midfield.

Appreciate the type of player Skuse is, but watching him against Norwich made me think: "This is exactly the sort of performance Leadbitter used to put in, not good."

Like I say we know what Skuse is there for but we need a driving force, we don't need two defensive minded players, yes Hyam is being encouraged to get forward and hopefully he does start to score a few.

The whole point of having a combative midfielder is to allow the rest of the front five play with freedom, if you're midfield box to box player is good enough, which I think Hyam is, you shouldn't need another holding midfielder - Skuse.

Jimmy86 Its not rubbish. clubs who break the rules will be punished, but regardless, if we were spending huge sums you'd be moaning about the level of debt owed to ME. He threw lots of money at keane and he wasted it by being an awful manager.. it was without a doubt the dullest football this club has played in living memory. Internally and I know this for a fact from someone who works on the football side, keane destroyed the club's atmosphere. I think ME has done more than enough to be respected here. All our debt is with him... which means its his money propping the club up. If he didn't care he'd walk away which would mean the club being in a Portsmouth style situation. Not one of the last three managers have had a bad word to say about him as a boss, including keane who could start a mass brawl in an empty room. He's also not been sack happy, all managers have had a chance to do their thing...that's a good chairmen. Its seems to me that some people will criticise no matter what. Last season was a good season and we are 4 games in and to get all hissy fit on things shows a real lack of understanding.

Yea id admitt that he has always been good with giving managers time, if anything with jewell, he was looking to give him more time and thats where not being a football man comes into it. How could he possibly have thought about giving jewell more time?? He was hopeless. And im afraid I dont agree so much with your keane comments, yes the guy was a disciplinarian, but he had played under 2 of the best managers in the game, ferguson and clough, who ruled their clubs with discipline. Keane is a natural winner, could it be that the pampered players of today didnt like it?? Plus he didnt do that bad a job at sunderland did he??

Mick

Why not sign a defensive uncreative hard working midfielder. We havent any of those.

Skuse did his job when we needed him, we have progressed but he hasnt. Time to make a change before fans start voting with their feet.

Ive backed u to the hilt MM but now starting to lose faith!!

Jimmy86 Nonsense. Clough was a genius when it came to man management. I'm from Nottingham so I encountered the irish p^^^k a few times in clubs and bars(one night where some poor kid and his mates were threatened for not giving up their table for him and his irish mates and once seeing him arrested)...
Clough let him have his head. He also used to let him go home after a game on a Saturday and come back a day later than everyone else for training. He knew how to manage individuals. Same with fergie, he managed people, keane cant. Jewell got more out of Keanes signings than keane did. Don't defend keane...he was a right royle Pric< with his head so far up his own arse but without the talent of a manager to back it up. In psychology tersm keane would be diagnosed as at best a sociopath.

A loan? why a loan? we have money to spend that is what we were told when Cressy went, we can invest that money in new blood! its not happened, why has it not happened? questions questions, and no answers, just more and more non sensical comments from Mick, just had enough of the guy now, thankyou for saving us from relegation but since them its just boring boring and more boredom, both on and off the field!

When are you blinkered, back Boring Billy at all cost, so called fans going to wake up. So he bored us all still last season but that was ok because we were not in the bottom 3.
This club is going nowhere and it will be so as long as the corporate Evans is the owner. He said he had received offers for the club but that is so much bollocks. We need a campaign NOW to rid ourselves of these absent owners and this useless manager before it is too late. Just remember, if there was going to be investment in the club it would have been done sooner and not 4 days before the window closes.
To the corporate Evans and McCarthy for gods sake go and go NOW

By reading this, Mick doesn't sound very enthusiastic or should I say bothered at present of getting anybody in - he seemed like that when Collison was here, I take he's left training with us? - as long as Skusey, Tabby, Lukey and Ando all remain fit what are the problems plus it keeps Marco happy! (Mick is thinking to himself).
