Loan Signing Possible Before Deadline
Thursday, 28th Aug 2014 15:06

Boss Mick McCarthy says he could add a loan player to his squad before the transfer window closes on Monday at 11pm, although there will be no one new in the squad before the weekend trip to Derby.

“I don’t know,” he said when asked if there are likely to be any additions before the deadline. “Maybe there’ll be somebody in, it’ll probably be a loan if that’s the case.

“I’m just hoping there’s nobody out. If the phone rings it’s always about what people perceive as our best players, so I don’t want to lose anybody else.”

One of this morning’s tabloids claims Blues centre-half Tommy Smith is a target of new Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock, but McCarthy says he’s not been contacted about any of his players.

“No, not directly, not at all. There’s always talk all the time about everybody’s players but nobody’s rang me up and said ‘I want to do X’.”

He says there has been no movement regarding transfer-listed striker Frank Nouble, while he confirmed that Jack Collison and Darren Ambrose continue to train with the Blues and will play in Monday’s U21 game at Portman Road against Sheffield Wednesday (KO 7pm).

Blues1 - because after the window shuts it's 93 day loans max. That would mean waiting a few weeks or losing the player over the busy Christmas period. Then, if the player performs he may leave. A season long loan or half season allows more consistency and better coverage of games. We need players now in my opinion. The negativity is because we have got rid of far more players than we have signed since last season. This is despite Mick saying he has a small squad and despite the club saying the Cresswell money would be spent. It hasn't, because we had more players last season despite the Cresswell cash. Furthermore, it is obvious we lack creativity, flair, pace and goals in the midfield. This will not be addressed with emergency loans. In fact this should have been addressed weeks ago. Then there is the lack of cover at the back, and lack of goal scorers up front ... Need I go on?

Monkey blue .... I disagree with you. The club said we would reinvest the Cresswell money into the squad. We haven't. We had a budget for last season, which presumably is the same as this season. Yet, without the Cresswell money we had more players than this season! How do you explain that? Are we to assume we have budgeted less than last season and used the Cresswell money to sign fewer players than we had?! And players who probably cost less in Bru and Bajner! Sorry, but if that's the case, how on earth does Evans think we will progress with fewer players with less quality? Believe only us and two other clubs have failed to strengthen this summer. Receive for disaster.

Well monkey blue, if keane was such a pyschopath and a disaster then why did our great chairman who you wax lyrical about, who isn't a football man in any way, but saved our club when we needed it appoint him?? Big name, exposure for the marcus evans group every time sky interviewed him?? Or the fact he took sunderland up as champions, all be it having spent a lot of money. Your unwavering belief in FFP is admirable, if somewhat misguided, even mick doesn't believe in it, but you crack on with your rose tinted specs!! Im a fan that wants the best for our club, but wont blindly follow and agree with every decision that comes out of the club

Three young loanees in please, and I hope one of them is a centre back because we play our only 3 every game. And I know we have Mings, Clarke and possibly Parr as replacements, but they don't have the experience there.

Obviously we need a creative midfielder, I think we'll probably end up gambling on a new boy we haven't heard of before.

Lastly, any player that can seriously challenge for a first team place. Maybe a winger, just someone that will provide a bit of excitement.

Sorry we need more than one loan player in. Hopefully it is gonna be jonny Williams. There are other teams in the league getting players in on loan and signing them. With the same budget and smaller grounds so this Ffp rule only aply to Ipswich town football club. Can we do like Nottingham forest with there ground and get ME to put money in that way

Just sign Ambrose and give Bishop and Clarke a crack of the whip, they must be champing at the bit.

Although im a massive fan of smith I don't think it would be a massive shame if we lost him, chambers would then play his proper position and Hewitt in at rb which would mean we'd be more attacking

Keep on slagging MM off why don't you? We have NO MONEY. it's not his fault all he is saying is he will have to get loans in. We are mid table at best. I don't like it either but that's where we will be so get used to it.

Don't you think that if ME gave MM £10 million to spend on players then he would make some decent signings. Get off his back!!

We're an absolute joke these days. How have things really got to this stage? The last 4 years we've just been a make shift team of whatever we can get for nothing and everyone elses players on loan. Don't believe we should spend millions but surely Evans is wealthy enough to treat the fans to one signing?

Im with Selkirks theme , Money, money ,money, [Abba] The club is skint, carrying debts , The pot is empty, the pool is dry, if we have to bring in loan players then so be it,if they serve the purpose and club well then fine.Just dont want to lose more players and finish up like the teams under PJ half the team loan players, and square pegs in round holes ..Its a shame the season hasnt opened to expectations ,now all the changes and doubts ,but its early days . COYB .
