McCarthy Set for Collison Talks
Wednesday, 17th Sep 2014 13:40

Town boss Mick McCarthy is set to speak to former West Ham midfielder Jack Collison about joining the Blues on a short-term contract later today. The 25-year-old recently spent several weeks with the Town squad at Playford Road and was offered a deal before moving on and joining Birmingham for training earlier this week.

McCarthy says the offer is still on the table: “I’m speaking to Jack today. I offered him exactly the same as Darren Ambrose, to January and I’ve told him that offer still stands.

“Things all seem sweet now but we get to November and suddenly we’ve got a flu epidemic and we’ve people with injuries and suspensions so another body of that quality would be nice.”

He says no decision has yet been made but that the deal could be done later today: “Possibly, I’m speaking to his agent. If he wants to come and do it, I’ll still do it.”

At his best he will really add to the midfield
Bishop has a future but cannot see him sustaining form over 40 matches.
Collinson and Hyam in centre mid sounds decent.

A short term contract would suit both parties. Nothing to lose imo.

Would be a very decent addition, still can't believe he's only 25 and without a club!

Wish we'd do to the end of the season, but what do I know? In Mick we trust.

Positive signing if it happens. Just a quick mention about the crowd last night - thought they were fantastic throughout.

I would really welcome this move but,for a reason I can't put my finger on, I'm not holding my breath. Would give us some quality strength in depth

I like the way that town have stood their ground here. Offered him a contract that was within our pay structure. He trains with Birmingham to try to force our hand, possibly to get a better deal. We say that's the offer it's still on the table take it or leave it.

He will be a very good addition to the squad, but not at any price. Great bit of business if it comes off. If it does hats off the MM and the back room boys.

...... look at games played over the last few seasons and you will see why he hasn't a Club - be far better to twist Warnocks arm over Williams. I'm sure it could be done.

Totally agree with you Bergholtblue and I said as much a few days ago which didnt go down well. But what can a player with his injury history expect. I hope he signs....and stays I jury free.

Put him on a short term contract & let's see how many injuries or days off he has - a lot less than if he was a permy I suspect! West Ham have paid lots of players in the past to sit around injured & probably didn't want another - up until then he was a regular for them. Likes a tackle, could be good business for town.

He had also gone to Brum & realised Ipswich is a better club to be at right now.

Absolute no brainer to sign him. Been with the squad long enough to settle in straight away. Always liked him and can't believe at 25 years old he's even in this position. If he's fully fit then he can be a real decent player for us.

if he does sign hopefully it won't be another reo-coker. use us to get fit then go on to other things.

If we get Collison does that mean we don't chase Williams any further?, can't help think Mick's now chasing Jack as he's gone to Birmingham to train and what I've heard that they were interested in signing him on a contract as well.
For me it would be Williams on a loan over Collison on a short contract any day.

I almost shat my pants cos I just read McCarthy in talks and thought he was leaving!

To me Collison or Ambrose would have given us enough cover. At present Hyam, Skuse, Bishop, Bru, Ambrose, Tabb, Henshall, Stewart, Anderson, Hunt add Collison that's 11. You're going to have to leave 4 out of the matchday squad if all fit.

parhamblue added 23:03 - Sep 17
Given the lack of matches he's played and the short period of the contract, plus the number of players we have in the squad (many of whom are regulars and have the matches behind them) he will have to get past, I honestly don't see the point of this.

blue_steele added 23:22 - Sep 17
What's the point, if he's great and does well, someone will come in for him. We will have disaffected one of our own players by not giving them at fair chance.

If he's crap he'll sit on the bench until the cheques stop arriving. Time for MM to bring in his Prem loan player he advertised all summer or go with what we've got and make something of them.
