Marriott Set to Return to Town
Wednesday, 17th Sep 2014 13:55

Town boss Mick McCarthy says striker Jack Marriott will return to Portman Road when his one-month loan spell at Carlisle is up after Saturday’s game at Mansfield.

McCarthy confirmed that the 20-year-old, an unused sub during last night's 1-0 defeat to Shrewsbury, would be returning to the Blues: “He’s coming back.”

Marriott has made three starts and two sub appearances without scoring for the Cumbrians, who are currently bottom of the Football League and who sacked manager Graham Kavanagh during his time at Brunton Park.

Meanwhile, former Blues winger Reggie Lambe has joined Carlisle’s weekend opponents Mansfield following a trial.

The Bermudian previously spent time on trial with Bradford, following a three-month spell with Swedish side Nykopings BIS and a two-year stint in the MLS with Toronto FC.

If Jack Marriott is going to be as good as Jordan Rhodes, which is possible but
I would think on the evidence so far very unlikely, it is strange that only blueboy1981
has so far recognized that fact.Unless there was a third multi million pound bid from a
Premier League club turned down that we have not yet heard about.
Surely at least one top flight club would be banging on the door to sign someone that good.

if we had Michael Owen in his prime he wouldn't get a place in MM's "Hoofathon" team

For me there are question marks on Jack's attitude and ability. Firstly, Mick highlighted flaws in Jack's overall game, for example his lack of movement when the team don't have the ball, and secondly, the boy has in the main kept the bench warm, whilst out on loan to lower league clubs. Admittedly, he had a successful spell at Working ( conference level ) but let's not forget his attitude was questioned there, by Working manager, Hill.
The boy is young and has time on his side, hopefully he carves out a career at Ipswich, and proves certain people wrong. The alternative....we'll look at JET, warming the bench at Bristol City.

It's interesting that Jack Marriott has already provoked so many posts, given his rarity of appearances for Itfc. His reputation has been built very much on a relatively remarkable scoring record for a largely unremarkable non League Woking side. It is true to say that we football supporters like nothing more than a young talent pushing himself forward and becoming a quick and notable first team asset. Look no further than Mings and Bishop this season for evidence. I have seen Marriott on only a couple of occasions and I would guess that most posters ( for and against) have seen little more. I was impressed by his first touch and goal in Layer Road pre season friendly and although
he is only 20 and very much untested it is unlikely that MM sees him as knocking on the door to displace either of our DMs. The perhaps sad truth is that at a lightly built 5ft 7 , and without a burst of speed, the chance of him establishing himself at Portman Road is minimal. Not all youngsters can make it. But good luck to him

blueboy1981-even if it is accepted that MM does not recognize a good player(which I
do not accept) is it not logical that if Jack Marriott was exceptional somebody somewhere among the 92 clubs would have noticed?
He might still become a good player but he needs to improve soon.

I hit the minus button when there is something that I do not agree with-that is the idea isn't it?

I find it odd that people want him to start for us. Hasn't scored during this loan spell which is at a lower level.

Unfortunately can only see him going out on loan AGAIN... not that I want it, as mentioned hopefully to a club that will benefit him and later us.

........ yes, but come on jas0999 - look where he's been. More experienced olayers than him would struggle to impress in such company.

People comparing him to Rhodes, Jordan Rhodes went out on loan and was scoring nearly double figures for LEAGUE TEAMS by the age of 18. Rhodes remember is ONLY 24 and has scored over 150 career goal, Marriott hasn't proved himself at all in 2 loan spells and he has just turned 20! He can still make it, but for the many of you branding mick "useless" or an "idiot" for letting him go out on loan and not putting him in the team, I think this proves mick knows what he's doing. Marriott will imo be another Billy Clarke

He'll replace Bajner on the bench, I would have thought. That then leaves Sammon as a 'hit the ball hold up option' and Marriott as a lethal poacher option.

........ concerns me that quite a few of our fans / supporters, call them what you will, just don't know a Player when they see one, they either haven't a clue what they are watching, or they just haven't been following the game long enough to form reasonable judgement.
We certainly have a few that fit that category (obvious by their posts).
