Marriott Set to Return to Town
Wednesday, 17th Sep 2014 13:55

Town boss Mick McCarthy says striker Jack Marriott will return to Portman Road when his one-month loan spell at Carlisle is up after Saturday’s game at Mansfield.

McCarthy confirmed that the 20-year-old, an unused sub during last night's 1-0 defeat to Shrewsbury, would be returning to the Blues: “He’s coming back.”

Marriott has made three starts and two sub appearances without scoring for the Cumbrians, who are currently bottom of the Football League and who sacked manager Graham Kavanagh during his time at Brunton Park.

Meanwhile, former Blues winger Reggie Lambe has joined Carlisle’s weekend opponents Mansfield following a trial.

The Bermudian previously spent time on trial with Bradford, following a three-month spell with Swedish side Nykopings BIS and a two-year stint in the MLS with Toronto FC.

Are we SERIOUSLY having a debate as to whether Marriott is going to make it or not? WHAT DO YOU ALL WANT?? Mick has said he is a first teamer and sent him out to get more experience and it hasn't worked out due to a manager being sacked due to the team being in poor form and who in their right mind is going to shove a 20 y/o striker up front with little league experience when they're in that sort of predicament? Like seriously.

Yes he did well at Woking and yes Gillingham is another thing that didn't work out for numerous reasons, at least Mick is trying to give Marriott experience rather than let him become bored and rot in the u21's, he's trying to give him PROPER experience and now you're all saying because SO FAR it hasn't worked out that he isnt going to make it? Jesus Christ, some of you really need to reign yourselves in if you think that because it hasn't worked out SO FAR that it won't work at all, you need to give it TIME. I bet all of you saying 'conference is his level' were the ones up his backside when he was banging in the goals in that league, why do you NEED to take positives and put it into negatives. Give the guy a chance.

Saying play him off bench instead of Sammon NO WAY... Not unless are are losing and playing 3 up front. Sammon does a good job off the bench when we are winning games, he is a big strong player and holds the ball up really well.. A totally differant player to Jack M you cannot compare the two

mbisgrove: Anyone that uses "like seriously" in a post gets a minus from me for starters. Your post is a hilarious overreaction to what is being said. My reading of most people's views are that they are WORRIED one of our own won't make it. Very few have actually said he definitely won't. It is perfectly natural to get excited by a young player and then get anxious when he scores less. Its human nature. And no-one says he should not be out on loan and few say that MM hasn't given him a chance in so doing. The only reigning in should be done by you I'm afraid!

Where is the future?
Salmon?
Or give marriot the chance.
He needs time and that he is noit getting here.
The worse team in English leagues is not likely to help him at all.

Tommy Smith didn't "do well" nor shine at all when sent out on loan but still came back a much better player for it. He has proved himself by bringing the potential to reality .... are you listening Mr Marriott?

Why did we send Jack to a club that is bottom of League 2? Does MM want to improve Jack or get him out the way for a few weeks?

2 things.

Jack Marriott isn't finished. At 20 years of age he hasn't even started yet.

Neither has he proven that he can be a first teamer at Town. Regardless of the team he goes to, if he's Championship class he should stand out at L2 and lower L1 level. So he has a bit of work to do there before he, or anyone here, feels entitled to a place in the matchday squad for us.

I'd agree that a long term loan might be more beneficial, but some of the suggestions for clubs??? It's not 100% our choice where he goes, the other club has to want him and rate him, and maybe there are no better clubs asking for him.

I trust MM to do his best for the kid, it's well proven now that MM does like to bring kids through to the firsts, to say otherwise is nonsense. But just because we think a player is amazing/fantastic/superb etc doesn't mean he is. I presume nobody on this forum is a professional football manager (except on X-Box or whatever - plenty of them here!), and therefore not as qualified to hold that opinion as MM.

Get rid permanently. Awful. Shows next to no promise at all. Bring back Shefki Kuqi.

Thanks for explaining your hatred of certain words, very useful. Yes, slight overreaction, but I'm just sick and tired of the fairweather fans that turn positives to negatives and vise versa to suit them, it becomes tedious do you not agree?

I very much hope Marriott makes it as much as the next guy, but people really need to give the guy some time.

Agree with bohslegend that as yet Marriott has not done enough to prove that he could make it as a first teamer here.I know there is the argument that he has not yet had a chance but on the other hand he has not done enough whilst out on loan to suggest that he deserves the chance.
Dean Bowditch and Jordan Rhodes were mentioned by two earlier posters but Bowditch had scored a first tram hatrick at age 17 (and eventually faded) and Rhodes was scoring goals whilst out on loan which made his selling ridiculous.
Marriott needs to score goals at league level to even suggest that he might make it at Championship level.

You can't give a player an 'extended run' for the sake of it in this league, you can't carry a player. he is a young lad with loads of time to mature, players get rushed through nowadays and it ruins them more often than not, we aren't suffering by not having him in the squad at all and he is not suffering by playing/learning the hardships of lower league football.

NeverGoingUp added 13:11 - Sep 18
I personally think that he will never be a 15+ goals a season striker, so we should stop wasting our time with him.

mbisgrove - I do know what you mean, but I think its because we all get desperate for that new nugget of a player (remember Wickham-mania?), then get disappointed. It will happen at any club I would think. ;-)

Why hasn't Marriot been banging them in for Carlisle? Bottom of the league 2, sacked their manager, no wins, 3 points and conceded 18 goals in 8 games. Under those conditions and on loan for 1 month I don't think Michael Owen could prove he was a goal scorer.

And what is MM doing to give him confidence and belief. I cup game in a dud side which he had put out with the sole objective of getting us out of that competition.

Haha, I remember watching our under 21's beat Sputhend u21 4-0 and Reggie Lambe scored an absolute peach of a goal with a delicate chip. Think it was in 2011.

........... just a reminder for the 'posters' that put Jordan Rhodes down - and said he wouldn't make it etc; etc; etc; ................ WRONG ............ therefore proves you can't spot a player when you see one.

Step forward - JACK MARRIOTT - for the same mis-informed judgement.
No doubt from the same people.
