Marriott Rejoining Woking
Thursday, 25th Sep 2014 11:32

Vanarama Conference Premier side Woking have announced that Town striker Jack Marriott is rejoining them on loan for a third spell.

The 20-year-old, who will be at the Kingfield Stadium until January 4th, ended a month with League Two Carlisle at the weekend and played for Town's U21s in the 4-1 defeat to Huddersfield on Monday.

Marriott, who failed to net in three starts and two sub appearances with the Cumbrians, had two highly successful spells with the Cards last season, scoring 13 goals in 23 starts and one sub appearance.

Manager Mick McCarthy told the club site: “They know him well from his time there last season. He will play games there and I’m sure he will score goals.

“It’s better for his development to be there where there is a lot more at stake over the 90 minutes than staying here and playing for our U21s.

“He had a month at Carlisle and wasn’t getting the time on the pitch he really needs at this stage of his career. He’ll get that at Woking.”

The former Kettering Town schoolboy made his first senior start for the Blues in the Capital One Cup last month, having made two sub appearances in the Championship.

Its brilliant that soo many of you/us love to see young lads progress through the youth team and into the firsts....and to be playing and scoring in the side. However I feel with him having spells league 1 ..... then league 2 ..... now back to the conference jack isnt progressing. Mick would have been able to see every game he has played in....as would the opposition managers and scouts and he cannot find a league club. Id say he will not ever get into this first team. But i like all of you hope i am wrong

JohnWarksTash - I mentioned Bowditch and billy Clarke together because both showed promise and scored goals coming through the ranks and in the reserves, just like Rhodes did, but neither of them have left and gone on to fulfil that promise, unlike Rhodes. Rhodes has an £8m move under his belt, has played international football and been one of the top scorers in the championship. Whilst Bowditch has done better than Clarke, he hasn't ever even made it in the championship unfortunately.
Woking aren't even a top conference side so I think he did well to get goals there. Carlisle were a mess with the manager leaving so that was bad luck and no idea why Gillingham took him on loan if they weren't gonna give him a chance - but we've done that before, like with that Villa youngster. I just hope he gets some goals, comes back full of confidence and bangs them in for the u21s and then takes any chance he gets off the bench.
I just hope McGoldrick doesn't get injured again as we have NO cover for him

He needs to regain his confidence and where better to do it than at a club where he is familiar with the set-up, giving him one less thing to make him feel unsettled. Let's not judge him too quickly or harshly. 20 is still very young in terms of maturity, for many.

what are you on about blue steele? mr negative as usual. if he wasn't wanted by mm then hed have been shipped out of the club permanently by now, just as chopra was, taylor pretty much is now too. mick knows what many of us do, that Marriott isn't ready for the championship as yet. what is better for him? to go to a league club and sit on the bench or to go back to a club where he was happy(on loan), played, and scored goals. makes total sense for him to go there, then if he scores a few he may get another loan chance at a higher level in January. if he does tho, do feel he'll have to take that chance or he may then fall by the wayside, similar to bowditch.

With Murphy, Sammon and McGoldrick all available and playing, I suppose it's better for Marriott to be playing in someone's first team rather than warming our bench. That said, it's disappointing that he hasn't broken through.

Blue_steele whats your point? you've listed players who have gone on to find their level at lower clubs.

Shipped out to a club that is totally in freefall, if it wasn't for the line at the bottom of the division 2 table they would have slipped down further, just three points from nine games and managerless. Right move but wrong club for a lad at his stage of progress. hope he gathers his game back at aclub he knows, still hs a vast potential.

Might aswell go their on a permanent deal, will never be good enough at this level, how many times has he been sent out on loan? 3,4,5, the gaffer clearly doesn't rate him, another Ronan Murray.

It is a bit harsh to say he failed at the L1 & L2 clubs considering he was barely given any game time to do anything.

Dubbed Marriot of Fire at Woking. I thought he should have come in when McGoldrick was injured at the tail end of the season. I think he is a better prospect than Nouble.
