Town Confirm Williams Loan
Monday, 29th Sep 2014 09:44

Town have confirmed that Crystal Palace midfielder Jonny Williams has rejoined the Blues on a 93-day loan, as TWTD revealed on Saturday. The Wales international is at Playford Road this morning training with the squad ahead of the trip to South Yorkshire for Tuesday’s game at Sheffield Wednesday.

“I’m delighted to have him back in the squad,” manager Mick McCarthy said. “On the back of four wins, which is great for us, it’s great for us to be getting a player of his quality come in.

“I think one of his concerns when he was deciding where he was going to go - because he had a number of options, as you can imagine - was whether he would play because we’ve been playing well.”

McCarthy says Williams, who was interesting his former Eagles boss Dougie Freedman at Bolton in addition to other Championship clubs, is fit enough to be involved at Hillsborough: "He played against Newcastle [in the Capital One Cup] the other night and got 80 minutes, he's fine."

The Town boss was able to reassure the 20-year-old that he would get games while at Portman Road: “You tell them anything to get them in through the door!

“If you think we’re signing Jonny Williams, as good as he was the last time, and he’s going to be sat warming the bench during his loan spell, that’s not going to happen.

“Everybody saw him last year and it’ll give everybody a lift and a boost. On the back of the results to see him coming in, knowing what quality he is.”

Palace will be entitled to recall Williams at 24 hours' notice after the first 28 days of his loan at Portman Road, as is standard with these deals.

As is often the case when the Blues have two games in quick succession, Williams and the rest of the squad underwent cryotherapy in a portable facility parked in the Playford Road car park prior to training this morning.

This sees them enter a chamber at temperatures down to -130°C for around two minutes while wearing nothing other than shorts, protection against frostbite on their knees and elbows, gloves, goggles and a hat.

The process removes lactic acid and prevents muscle damage, thereby aiding recovery.

Agree with all the positive posts above.

What makes me drool is the thought of Williams on the same pitch as Didz.
Didz was injured when Joniesta joined last season. Also, Bishop had yet to come through.

I think MM + TC have really sorted things out.

COYB!!

Very happy with our squad right now - Williams is class act and Collison and Ambrose will add quality in depth. Also, Stewart will be as a new addition when he gets back. Lots of options now, feeling optimistic.

After the Norwich game, most of us looked at the midfield & thought it was flat. Now all of a sudden two attacking full backs, the intro of Bishop, a super draw at Derby kick started our season. Add in Skuse regaining form at Wigan, McG & Murph scoring, Sammon looking strong in his first two starts.. And now the return of Jonniesta.

Well done Marcus for rebuffing Leicester & Palace... And giving Mick the funds for Williams loan.

Could the exciting times be returning to Portman Rd? I for one am very excited...

He has to be a starter on Tuesday night..

If we needed to win a game we could play Murphy and Sammon in front of Bishop, McGoldrick and Williams with Hyam behind and two rampaging full backs. We might concede 2 but we'll score 4 or 5!!

Hope Williams and McGoldrick can click as I think the latter has been thriving from being 'the main man'.

irishtim, you were correct pal. HUMBLE PIE TIME, for the anti Mick posse. Massive turn around since Norwich game. As I stated back then, a couple of wins, the bedding down of team, plus the odd addition to squad, then things will start to look a lot better.
Well done ME for holding firm in transfer window, and although many may disagree, due to loyalty towards Tommy Smith, well done Mick, for pushing Chambers back to where he belongs, centre back. No coincides that defence looks a lot more solid, since the change.

What a turn around from a month ago! Streams of positivity on the site again after collecting 13 points from a possible 15 since Norwich. Really got some momentum going now and MM will surely win manager of the month regardless of tomorrows result. With the addition of Williams things can only get better....COYB!!!!

Love it! Great news. Feet still firmly on the ground as it's such an unrelenting league. Great momentum at the moment. Wednesday and Forest are two big tests.

What happens after 93 days? That won't get us to the end of the season!

Welcome back Jonny!

With the emergence of Bishop coupled with the return of Williams our central midfield has taken on a stronger form now which is wonderful to see, well done Mick!

I can't help but think that Jonny's decision was made a little easier considering Town's current lofty position in the Championship table ;)

Roll on the Wednesday.

Great news!

For me the transformation in the side has been the revamped back four. Just look how few goals we are conceding compared with last season.

The arrival of Williams just gives us that important bit extra in midfield and must help Bishop to develop even further.

Every side in the Championship will hate having to play Ipswich now. Today I put a bet on a top two finish.
