Everton Eyeing Mings
Wednesday, 15th Oct 2014 09:24

Everton are the latest Premier League club reported to be considering a move for Town left-back Tyrone Mings.

Crystal Palace had a £3 million offer for the 21-year-old turned down towards the end of the transfer window, while Arsenal and Chelsea have both been linked since then. Now the Daily Mirror reports that Everton are weighing up a January move for the ex-Chippenham Town man.

We understand that Everton have been amongst a number of Premier League clubs represented at recent Town games to run the rule over Mings, who won the Championship’s September Player of the Month award.

Following Palace’s interest, the Blues offered Mings a new contract until June 2017, which the full-back signed last month.

Meanwhile, manager Mick McCarthy, his players, ex-players and corporate guests will be taking part in the club’s golf day at Hintlesham.

Every player has a price? Not this one - for his sake and ours he needs to remain with Town for another couple of seasons.

This is all speculation, good young players are always in demand. On the back of his Player of the Month of course he is going to be in the spot light.

If he continues to play well and improve then there will be offers in Jan, hopefully we can keep the wolves at the door until the summer. If we get silly offers 5mil+ hopefully we can loan him back til end of the season.

Young, English, left back. Asking price for that usually about 27 million nowadays. Wouldn't take a penny less. Hahaha jog on

ME has already shown that their is no real need to sell by turning down the Palace offer...If Everton,Chelsea and Arsenal want to fight it out, then let it be....From the players perspective, Im sure he wants another season with us to develop, Does the club want to cash in???? If the offer is right, then im sure they will....8 mill plus

Among other criteria, It will probably depend upon our league position come January.

have to say, love mingsy but not a player (for a good fee) i'd be worried about losing, Parr can play left, hewitt or chambo right. if we lost the likes of didz, murphs, bishop, williams (call back) i'd be more worried

Bangor31, I think Mings is worth more to the team than you think.

I wasn't fussed with Cressy leaving, wouldn't want Mings to go.

On his current form and our league position, £10 million with add on's and loaned back for the remainder of this season would be a fair estimate of Mingsy's current value to the club. But hey, we don't want to lose what could be the future left back for England. Mingsy still has a lot to learn when you think where he came from for £10,000 and should he go to a Prem club his ass will do a lot of bench warming. Tyrone stay here and learn your trade with ITFC with plenty of play time on match days not just the odd cup game here and there.

Don't think we need to sell right now do we?

Fair enough if we don't get promoted this year and someone makes an offer of £5m+ next summer.

Can't see anything happening to Mings for a while. He's looked really promising this season but he's not ready for the top flight just like that and any such club that believes he is would be gambling with a lot of money.

Besides, remember how many transfer windows passed by with all the papers gobbing on about how every man and his dog wanted Aaron Cresswell. But we kept onto him for three years until somebody actually managed to take him away, and I think it was better for the player to establish his form at this level before making the step up. On that basis, I'd be hoping Mings is still at Portman Road this time next year.

Think people need to get real with mings, yea he is athletic and playing well, but he isn't near enough as good as is being made out and isn't as good as cressy, YET. If he went to everton, arsenal or chelsea he would be sat on the bench or in the reserves, he is still learning the game and often gets caught out of position. He is a player that has a lot of potential, but is still learning the game.

What you do need to understand, is that he'll get paid a phenomenal amount of money at Everton, Arsenal etc if he were to go, regardless of being on the bench.

Arsenal would be a better move than Everton, because he won't be taking the place of Baines any time soon!

Good luck to him whatever. Can't complain on a few million in the bank when you only pay £10k.

Tyrone has enormous potential to improve. In my opinion he has a much greater chance of playing international football in the future than Cresswell who has a great left foot but lacks the pace to play left back in the international game.
I could also see TM as a future top centre back. We have to do our best to hang on to him as long as we can and hopefully into the Premier league. If then we could no longer resist the advances of the 'big boys' (Arsenal, Chelsea etc) we would then at least get the sort of money Southampton have been getting for the likes of Luke Shaw etc.
Tyrone seems to have his head screwed on the right way and for the next few years regular football with us would undoubtedly be his (and our)best option.

At the end of the day it will come down to money. While Tyrone may have signed a new contract on improved terms, the likes of Everton would inevitably be prepared to pay him four or five times as much. True, to start with he wouldn't get much game time, not with Leighton Baines already there, but who would not be tempted by being paid millions, thus ensuring long term financial security, together with the opportunity to develop your game at the highest level. MM could not stand in his way particularly if a healthy transfer fee was offered.

Finally for those that seem not to recognise the progress Mings has made this season and the quality he has brought to his game in particular and the team in general, I can only suggest you get to the games and see for yourself. You don't get to be the Championship player of the month just because you have potential.

everton have baines at left back didnt mind losing cresswell as mings took his place but the team is lookin good as it is now

Would not be a sensible move, Baines will keep him out of the side for 4/5 yrs for a start, would totally curtail his development.

All the paper talk can't be wrong & undoubtedly Premiership scouts are watching him. Even the fact that the Crystal Palace bid was £3m suggests that Warnock & Co. knew there were other interested parties eyeing him during the summer.
I didn't think he could replace Cresswell attackingwise & felt we would really miss Aaron's ability to cross a ball with precision; but we haven't. Mings is a different type of player & his powerful running to the opposition penalty box and accurate balls at pace across the area are proving just as effective as Cressie's pinpoint balls in from deep. On top of that his defending has improved with every game & increase in his confidence.

I have been thinking about what the best move would be from our perspective, as I think it is inevitable that an acceptable offer will come in from a Premiership club before next summer is over ... IF we don't get promoted. He no doubt has a release clause in his new contract, as that's what seems to happen with in-demand players - if he doesn't he should sack his agent.
The club deemed that his value was in excess of £3m in August. Since then he has improved significantly in front of our eyes, won the Championship player of the month award & attracted attention, publically, from a host of Premiership clubs. It is fair to say that his value has to already be £5m+ and since he is important to us and has just signed a new contract, it is reasonable to assume that he could attract a bid of even £7m or £8m by the new year.
If he were to go to Arsenal or Chelsea, he would be likely to stay there for a number of years as he improves further at Premiership level, or sits on the bench & then the inclusion of any sell-on fee might come to nothing, however if he were to go to Everton or another established mid-Premiership level side, and continue to impress, the chances are that Arsenal or Chelsea might come in again, or another Top 6 side, with a £20m+ bid (young, English) giving us a further potential (eg: 25% of £20m - £8m) £3m down the line, which would be nice.

Kirbmeister added 15:55 - Oct 15
Dont worry Evans won't sell him anytime soon. His value will appreciate £5m a year. It would make no sense.

Like it or not Mings WILL leave our Club in the not too distant future. I suspect we would struggle to hold onto Englands future left back even if we were in the PL. He will be twice the player Cresswell is. I just hope when does leave that we get "silly money" up front ie £10M upwards AND at least a 25 % sell on fee.

....... just another of the many, that are / will be watching him.

Quality will always sell and be in demand.

Surely if we have any aspirations of promotion, we need to hold on to Mings until the Summer!

Tufty added 20:51 - Oct 15
Mings better defensively and crossed than cresswell Mick mills or any other left back in the past 50 years he could be the next Kevin Beattie in terms of legend.

Would rather not sell Mings in the short term - but a £10M + add-ons offer, with the agreement to loan him back to us for the remainder of this season and all of next season ............ too much to ask??

Jimmy86 added 21:27 - Oct 15
Tyrone reminds me of Titus during his town days, he could win you the game with 1 moment of genius, but then lose you the game with 1 wrong decision, 1 mis placed pass, 1 mis-timed tackle. Certainly not knocking him, but he isn't in cresswell's league yet, in my opinion, certainly not irreplacable by any means
