Keane Tried to Change Colour of Town's Kit
Keane Tried to Change Colour of Town's Kit
Thursday, 23rd Oct 2014 10:55

Former Town boss Roy Keane has revealed that he asked owner Marcus Evans if he could change the colour of the club’s first-team shirts during his time in charge but was told it would cause “uproar”, which the Irishman claimed would lead to “four people taking to the streets”.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Keane reiterated comments he made in his recent book The Second Half regarding the Town the colour of Town’s shirts.

“Rangers, City, sorry, I can’t be doing with blue,” he said. “Childish? Yeah, obviously. But I did once say to the owner, ‘Any chance we might be able to change the colour of the kit?’

"He said, ‘Nah, there’d be uproar’. Which at Ipswich meant four people taking to the streets.”

Keane also talks about an unsuccessful team meeting which took place in the wake of a poor performance.

“So I say: ‘Right, you can say what you like, lads. Who’s first?’ The centre-half sticks his hand up. And he’s been really getting on my nerves. But I say, ‘OK, what’s your problem?’

“And he goes: ‘Every time I get the ball, no one’s showing for me.’ Well, I lose my temper at that. I give him a right pasting, you useless this, you useless that, you couldn’t find a team-mate with a pass if he was standing two foot in front of you.

“Then when I’ve finished I go: ‘Anyone else got anything to say? Thought not.’ Afterwards I’m talking to the staff and I go: ‘How do you think that went lads?’ Not well was the general opinion.”

I groaned when I opened the Telegraph this morning and saw we had been subjected to yet more of his bleating, but I felt the red mist come over when I saw his "four people" comment.

We clearly weren't big enough to appeal to his vanity and I realise now that we were probably in trouble on the day he realised that people weren't coming to watch "Roy Keane's Ipswich" train.

I bear nothing but ill-will towards a man who is not fit to lace Mick's boots. He is a walking vanity project and can go to hell.

Positives:
(1) He's gone
(2) Every time he opens his mouth, he makes it less likely that he'll ever hold down a meaningful job in football again
(3) Every day, he's a day older....
(4) We were lucky to get such a talented manager as MM to clear up the mess.

Negatives:
(1) Rhodes
(2) Delaney
(3) Walters
(4) Jewell, who didn't have the calibre to clear it up

Regrets:
(1) That I, along with our other three fans (for I include myself as one of the four) continued to spend money supporting the club during the club, rather than boycotting it and leaving the stands empty, to precipitate his departure.
(2) Even with MM, we are not yet back to where we were before he joined
(3) We may never get there, as it gets harder every year
(4) There are not enough words in the English language to express the contempt I will always feel for Keane.

The more I read about Keane's time in charge the more sympathy I have with Jewell. PJ was never really right for the job but how much harder must his task have been coming into the club after the antics Keane had been pulling. It would have been difficult enough for PJ to come in and turn things around with the low morale of the players but on top of all the other s**t they had to put up with no wonder things didn't turn around. Sometimes Roy just keep your mouth shut. Your just a bully and a thug who was lucky enough to get a career playing the beautiful game, and even then you have frequently tried to turn it ugly! In Mick we trust. A great manager, professional leader and all round honest guy. Those dark days are slowly blowing over. Three points Saturday will do us all the world of good! COYB!

What a waster!! Who was the CB? McAuley / Delaney now playing in the Prem?

And asking for opinions then shouting the player down.

He was a good player, but unfortunately for him that era has now passed and he is found wanting.

Sub human scum!!

Nice to have it confirmed that, even before taking his jobs with the Republic of Ireland and Aston Villa, Roy Keane was the biggest Number 2 working in football.

@Lord Mac

To your negative list you can add:

McCauley
Garvan
Counago
Priskin
An attempt to buy Chopra for 4 million

The list goes on and on and on.....

I cannot believe the rudness of the man... Like many on here, I was a supporter of him even playing in Sitters' Keane In vs Keane Out match up at Gippeswyck Park. Had I knew he was going to p*ss on us all, i would have threw the match and switched sides. What a moron!

This smacks of a man who has lost a match and refuses to shake his opponents hand, knowing he got soundly beaten. He tried to destroy our beloved club and ultimately failed. Whoever made to decision to send him on his way deserves a massive round of applause. I wouldn't put it past him to have liaised with Paul Lambert at the time to merge us with them up the A140.... YUK!

Thank God For Mick Mac & TC!

Listening to most of the comments on here, from ignorant, self opinionated, arrogant idiots, he was in good company at Ipswich.

bingboast - If you think we are wrong, say why, rather than come out with just a trite, unsubstantiated comment. You want to raise the level of the forum; inform us, don't just slag people off for being bitter and critical of RK. We are responding to his comments about the club and his time here, and the man and his character. Of course we are opinionated. That's what a forum's for. If you genuinely have a view about RK that is contrary to the many on here, let's hear it.
