Nouble Nets Stunner for Sky Blues
Wednesday, 12th Nov 2014 22:10

On-loan striker Frank Nouble came off the bench to score a brilliant goal as Coventry beat Plymouth 2-0 at the Ricoh Arena to claim a place in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area semi-final.

Nouble, who has now scored four goals in eight games for the Sky Blues, came off the bench on the hour and with five minutes remaining sealed the victory with what sounds a fantastic goal, judging by the Coventry official website’s report: “He picked the ball up on the halfway line, surged past three defenders and smashed an exquisite left-footed drive into the top left-hand corner.”

Afterwards, Sky Blues boss Steven Pressley said it was an improved display from Nouble: "The performance was what I expect from Frank Nouble, there is so much potential there. He got his goal from hard work, something which I don’t believe we’ve seen from Frank over the past two weeks.

"His goal was tremendous and that’s what he is capable of, he has so much potential. That’s the frustration I have, the times he’s performed [are the] times he’s worked hard, so I want to see more of that from him."

Elsewhere, Jack Marriott played the first 73 minutes as Woking drew 1-1 with Wrexham - who beat them 3-0 in the FA Cup at the weekend - in the Vanarama Conference Premier.

The 20-year-old has now gone nine games - seven starts and two sub appearances - since scoring the only goal of his latest loan spell with the Cards on his third ‘debut’.

Meanwhile, young central defender Omar Sowunmi has returned to Town having spent the last month on loan at Vanarama Conference Premier side Braintree. The 19-year-old made four starts for the Iron.

Don't understand us letting him play in the Johstone's paint trophy, when that's a competition I could really see us winning and now he'll be cup tied ...

@salforduniblue

I really hope you're fishing for a bite with that comment! haha

'He got his goal from hard work, something which I don't believe we've seen from Frank over the past two weeks.'

Quite an odd comment from the Coventry manager there. For every terrible performance Frank may have had for us, one thing you can never ever fault him for was his effort. Good luck to him and hope he has a good career!

What can I say, sarcasm is hard to convey over the internet.

Got a down vote though, that's a result as far as I'm concerned

I'm parked in the Midlands and have bbc c&w on he radio and e cov manager just said he was on e bench because he'd not been putting the effort in over the last two games and he reaction he got in the office wasn't what he would expect. Seems like he has a touch of pre maddona about him.

to be fair to Nouble, hard work didn't really get him anywhere at Ipswich. Maybe he was trying another approach. clearly a mistake. I made the odd one at 20.

he is young. he will improve. he will learn. He is the same age as Tommy Smith was at the end of Roy Keane's era. If he follows a similar trajectory in the next four years that's fine by me.

Surely you meant "primma donna" truckerblue, as Nouble is considerably younger than Madonna... :)

These comments make total sense to me, Frank is a power player, similar to how Shefki Kuqi was for us. He has to accept his technical limitations and make the most of his size and power. If he does that and works his socks off every week, he could be very useful. If not, he's just a donkey.

Ok ok I f**ked up on the spelling but what the Coventry manager was saying was he'd not been putting in the expected work rate and when he pulled him in he office about it the response wasn't what he would've wanted. He's hardly setting the world alight in league one so I don't think he's gonna be back in our first team anytime soon or again. Lots of headless running about and never knowing what angle the ball is gonna come away from either his 50p head or either foot isn't gonna get him far. Bless him for his effort yes but I don't think he'll ever be good enough for us.
