McCarthy Keen to Keep Ambrose
Monday, 29th Dec 2014 15:16

Town boss Mick McCarthy is keen to keep midfielder Darren Ambrose at Portman Road beyond the end of his short-term deal which is up after Tuesday's game against his former club Charlton.

The 30-year-old academy product signed the contract in September after a trial and has so far made five sub appearances but is yet to make a start.

“I just spoke to Daz today and my intention would be to try and keep him and I think his intention is definitely to stay here,” McCarthy said.

Ambrose was a free agent having been released by Birmingham in the summer.

Good ntentews. Have a feeling we will see a player coming in very soon that will show our intent

Seems as though Mick is having a clear out so he can bring in a player.😃👍

Maybe not a wholesale clearout. Ambrose, St Ledger and N Hunt all came on short term deals, so MM has to make a decision as to whether they stay or go.

But it does begin to look as if someone's coming in.

Irishtim, you correctly predicted wee JW return, do you know something we don't?

Newdawnagain added 15:38 - Dec 29
I agree about a new player. I won't be surprised to see us spend 4 million ish on a striker. Wells from Huddersfield perhaps.

Can't say warktheline. But think we will be happy.

4million? What planet are you on, when our whole squad bar Mings is made up of free transfers?

blue_ed added 16:11 - Dec 29
So he spends 4 million on a striker, who does MM leave out? Dids, Murph or the 4 million new guy?
Cant see it somehow

Marcus_Evans added 16:12 - Dec 29
We will not spend £4m on 10 players let alone 1.

Not unless we want to fail FFP anyway

tractorboy23 added 16:12 - Dec 29
£4m why would be do that? MM has spent nothing on this squad, it would surely go against what he is doing.. We don't need strikers Didz, murph, Sammon, Bajner & Marriott!!

We need more potentially a cover at CB if anything..

Not too fussed about JW, unfortunately is hasn't worked out & others around him are performing.

Good experience cover if needed. A goal scoring central midfield player aside, we look good for numbers in midfield. Would just like better attacking options and a experienced defensive cover now.

There is another two coming back next week from the North. who now do not fit in with there loan team ???? But I am sure MM. has got his plans for them !!!!

Let's see shall we instead of all going on the offensive all time. I recall us all being amazed when we spent over 2 million on Marcus Stewart and look how that turned out.
This is by far our best opportunity for over a decade and I can see Marcus Evans backing MM in the short term for long term gains.
You all seem extremely confident that we won't be fighting off big bids for any of the strikers and the reserve strikers won't keep us where we are if Murphy and or McGoldrick were injured or sold.

BlueySwede added 16:26 - Dec 29
Somewhat disagree with tractorboy23. We need a backup striker of better quality than Connor "Wooden leg" Sammon. If something happens to McGoldrick or Murphy we look pretty thin in attack. Otherwise I think our squad looks good.

I see striker cover - who knows - we may get a bid for one or two that we cannot turn down - I hope not BUT since when has the business of football at the 'sharp end' made sense - last time we were up there it was a very very different game

On another issue, wonder where JW will end up now Warnock has been given the elbow?

BlueySwede I understand, my comment was under the impression we don't sell Didz or Murphs!

If one of those go we will need another striker able to score goals, and agree that Sammon isn't the answer to that.

Really hope that Bajner makes an impact 2nd half the season!

Palace are desperate for a goal scorer - could bid for Murphy? Or part exchange with Jonny?

Noel Hunt to stay til end of season i expect. Thought St Ledger would as well. There is no way we are shelling out 4 mil on one player. Mick would rather spend a mil each on 4 not that that will happen either. Much as i think Wells would be a good signing i dont see it happening. Chris Wood is decent at this level and looks set for a loan move in Jan? My feeling is thatkeeping the squad together is the main aim. Getting through jan without selling would in itself br a major boon. Hope Ambrose stays, usefull squad player. If we can get Taylor off and away for good then wr might free up the required wages to sign someone. Nouble looks like he will stay at Cov, WW might go back to Colchester? They need a spark and a loan might suit all parties.

Dont think murph would go. He likes the area and the club and Mick. Having finally found a "home" where he plays as a striker, why move. The bigger worry for me is they come knocking for Mick himself

Newdawnagain' living in cloud cuckoo land in the fact of spending 4 million on one player!

Mick won't go,he still has a job to do.! Where did that 4 mill come from.!!😄😄😄😄😄

I would look at signing someone like Benik Afobe, who's been doing so well at MK Dons in the season, who's on loan from Arsenal, but not until in the Summer. Noel Hunt will remain and that'll be that.
