Hunt Set to Sign Town Deal
Wednesday, 7th Jan 2015 15:44

TWTD understands that former loanee Noel Hunt is expected at Portman Road tomorrow morning to finalise the details on a permanent deal with the Blues. The 32-year-old, who left Leeds by mutual consent earlier today, is set to put pen to paper on a contract until the end of the season.

Hunt, the younger brother of Town winger Stephen, joined the Blues on loan at the end of November, scoring the late, late winner after coming on as a sub in the 1-0 victory at Charlton.

The Irishman made a further three appearances from the bench before his spell came to an end prior to Sunday’s FA Cup tie at Southampton.

Speaking about Hunt's future after his final appearance, the 3-0 home victory over Charlton, manager Mick McCarthy said the situation at that point largely depended on Leeds: "It’s up to them what they want to do with him, and up to Hunty, to be fair.

“He’s done all right, he scored the winner at Charlton, he’s had a couple of sub appearances and I like him. It’s up to them, see what they want to do.”

Got to be pleased with this. Another free transfer and unlikely to be on huge wages, wno't upset the apple cart if he's not starting, and knows his team-mates and what's expected of him well.

I don't think he'll be our new Marcus Stewart, but then I'd be very surprised anyway if we went out and spent money on anyone, so fits the bill for me!

I assume he is not cup tied and therefore will be able to play next week?

Well said Wickets, the majority of contributors to this site did not make him very welcome when the original move here was first mentioned.
If he comes back, he and Darren Ambrose could become important squad members in the second half of the season.

Terrific news, although there's set to be a long queue outside Portman Road tomorrow morning so perhaps it's best he does it online.

@PJH, many of the doubters have disappeared from the forum, and to be fair, others appear to be buying into McCarthy's ideologies.

I agree warktheline, on both counts.
It is good that this forum generally reflects the happy atmosphere within the squad and within the club.
We can be sure that anyone that MM adds to the squad will be of the right character to fit in.

A good option to have, but still think we need a further back up up front as Hunt is perhaps more suited to the Wing. Good signing though.

@PJH, without doubt. For several reasons McCarthy has divided Town supporters, but love him or hate him, the big fella has pulled this club up from near hopelessness. Maybe because we are "'sleepy" Ipswich, he hasn't been acknowledged for the job he has done to date,as much as he should have been, but I for one, am happy for him to sail under the rador!

Delighted with this. His Personality fits the squad that MM has built. A 100%er to add to the others. Good cover, and versatile. Nice.

Very pleased with the return of Noel. Already know he will settle in well and could the script be written for him to score another 94th minute goal and this one to win us promotion!

Accies boss on way to Norwich!!!! Big big gamble if this happens. Since they are our dear neighbours, would only be fitting for Mick to offer the new man a helping hand, there you go, Taylor for nowt....sure he will help bound the new ship!

Yes, why not swap Taylor for Hooper? I can't quite join in the euphoria yet, when we sign a top class striker and another midfield player WITH REAL MONEY then I might be convinced. Just go back to the Charlton game and see how much possession they had.
A team like Derby will turn that possession into goals

Brilliant if it happens, ever since his goal against Charlton my 6 yr old Junior Blue has a small obsession with Noel :) hes in his starting line up in every game on his Fifa 15 game on the Ipad :)
