Striker Wood Linked Again
Sunday, 18th Jan 2015 14:54

Town are again reported to be showing interest in Leicester striker Chris Wood, who the Foxes are said to be willing to allow to leave on loan.

The 23-year-old, Tommy Smith’s room-mate when on New Zealand duty, has dropped down the pecking order at Leicester with Croatian striker Andrej Kramaric having been signed from HNK Rijeka last week.

According to the Sunday People, the Blues and Fulham are targeting Wood, who joined the Foxes from West Brom for £2 million in 2013.

Town are currently in ongoing negotiations with Leeds regarding the loan signing of striker Billy Sharp.

Speaking yesterday, Whites manager Neil Redfearn confirmed that the clubs had been talking but said they had so far been unable to agree a loan deal, adding that he’d ideally like to keep Sharp at Elland Road.

The Blues are unlikely to look at another options such as Wood until the move for Sharp completely breaks down.

Town boss Mick McCarthy has ruled out a move for his former Wolves striker Kevin Doyle, who has returned to Molineux after spending the first half of the season on loan at Crystal Palace.

“There’s a number of issues. One, he’s out of our league in terms of what we would spend on wages,” he said.

“And two, Jez Moxey the chief executive at Wolves is a good pal of mine and there’s as much chance of me jumping in the Thames naked as there is him loaning him out to me when they’re in eighth spot and we’re in second and taking a hit on his wages.

“‘Yes Mick, we’ll loan you Kevin Doyle, we’ll also take a subsidy. You just give us 10% of his wages and you can have him’. I don’t think there’s much chance of that at all.”

Elsewhere, former Blues midfielder Jack Collison was spotted at stadium:mk yesterday as the MK Dons beat Sheffield United 1-0.

Collison, whose short-term contract with Town recently came to an end, is still at Playford Road as he gets back to fitness after a knee injury.

Great, now I've got the image of Mick jumping naked in the Thames in my mind.

i'd actually really like to see wood come in on loan. very young, and has the pressence which if murphy was to get injured, he could fill in with both the physical presence, and also he can finish. as to people saying about nugent, he is starting most games so i doubt we'll get him!

i find the mcgoldrick one weird, and many people have said, he seems like he doesn't like being under murphy's spotlight. we all know how good didzy is, but he is misfiring at the minute, and becoming incredibly greedy!

I would like to get some input and your opinions on this one, however I was thinking how much I would love to see Wood or sharp at ipswich or both haha I don't mind which one. However considering we have Noel who scored 2 goals yesterday could now be a proven goal scorer ! Give him a chance or maybe we do need need another striker just in case for back up yeah? But what I was thinking how much I like Anderson and how he has stuck by us and normally works his socks off but in my opinion if we do get promotion he isn't preimer league quality. So I think we need another player who can play out wide or a player who sits in behind the strikers a midfielder that likes going forward is Tom ince hull are prepared to let him go out on loan and he has scored in the premier league and proven goal scorer, I dunno just a thought ??

I think Micks being pretty shrewd, and we're just looking for suitable additions to add strength in depth. We've seen in the last couple of matches that parr and kings could play in midfield. Anderson and indeed Ambrose seem to be coming good - perhaps Mick is thinking
That didsy will play off a front-two, meaning it's addition strike force and not midfield that needs strengthening. Just an idea...

I think we need another Target man in case murph gets an knock, Sears can replace Didz as he's a little playmaker as per parrs goal.. And hunt is just a whole different option who will work hard and play off the shoulder

So wood would my option over sharp even though I've always admired sharp

Didzy behind a front two makes total sense. He is our most technically gifted player by a distance. He could provide for two goalscorers. He has the eye for a pass that no one in our midfield has. JW did it for us and if we can't get him back ( Pardew after forward thinking players for palace) then Didzy is the man to fill that role. Wood is a far better option than Sharpe. Younger, stronger, more of Murph type player of he gets injured or loss of form( signs of that in last 3 games!!)
We are closest we have been for a decade to getting back to the promised land and ME being the business Man he is must recognise the best chance he has on getting a return on his huge investment into ITFC is to back MM in this window. Wolves just spent circa 2 mill on Afobe from arsenal, not saying we have to do that, but please Marcus, think carefully. We are so close and to pass up this opportunity is madness as it may not come along any time again soon.
Would love us to also bring in a quality midfielder who can change the game with his passing.
Wish list. Toszer from Watford. Williams from Palace. Wood from Leicester. And play Parr at full back. Chambers is still not a full back.
COYB !!!!!!!!

Sharp would be an excellent addition. He scores goals. Yet, wood would be good too. Still think we need another option. Despite the two goals yesterday, suspect N Hunt will be utilised as a winger.

You've got to wonder if Didsy has buggered his knee again because that's what it looked like to me on the replay, not a sore foot. It would stop the prices going through the roof for replacements if that were kept under wraps until the negotiation is done and dusted. If we get a decent striker for the rest of the season it wouldnt surprise me if it was announced just before the game on Wednesday.

Have always liked Billy Sharp, but we have Didz, Hunt(N), and Sears. Need competition/back up for Murphy surely? So would like to see us get Woods - swap/money deal for Didz, and then get Sharp.

So long as MM doesn't get Wood whilst jumping in the Thames....

Similar type of player to Murphs which would mean he could slip straight into our team without having to change shape. We need strength in depth and he is sure as hell a better option that the fish (Sammon) ever was! Knows Smith as well so should only be positive for team morale. Would imagine this will happen if the Sharp move breaks down.

I agree with a point William121 makes about Prem quality. If we were to go up (& obviously I hope we do) how many of the current players, including those mentioned in current gossip would make it in the top flight? Next signings, wages permitting, need to be top class- even if we don't go up they will assist in our next promotion push

I thought Murphy was playing at 80% yesterday and may be carrying an injury. Like it or not our game is centered around getting the ball to him and playing off the second ball.
We need a similar player to Murphy in reserve - if Wood is the man then lets get him in ASAP

So many midweek games coming up- we need some top quality back up to ensure continued Fist pump action

It seems we are attracting these young, hungry, forward thinking players now! Chris Wood for me but Sharp is a bit of an historical favourite.

Interesting, On here ppl like both Sharp and Wood, with perhaps more favouring Wood.

I went to Millwall and I have to say - good win, but it looked like the 3rd non-football performance in a row. Fair enough we won without needing 4th or 5th gear, but the fact that we passed so little/poorly worries me. It just would not be effective in the Prem to play like that. Too many midfielders with hopeful punts forward.

However, it looks like Sears is going to be an excellent signing - really pleased with that ( we were speculating he must've cost 500k), and getting an extra striker means we are in serious contention. Just hope we can start passing again.

Love Mings. The lad oozes quality....
