Wigan Striker Linked
Wednesday, 21st Jan 2015 10:45

Wigan’s Marc-Antoine Fortuné is the latest striker to be linked with the Blues.

According to the Daily Mail, Town and Charlton are keen on 33-year-old Fortuné, who has scored only twice in 19 appearances this season, most recently in early October.

French Guiana-born Fortuné started his career in France with Angoulême, Lille, Rouen (loan) and Stade Brest before moving to Dutch side Utrecht in 2005.

Two years later he returned to France and joined AS Nancy, then moved into English football when he signed for West Brom on loan in January 2009.

After a year with Celtic, who paid £3.8 million for his services, the 6ft tall striker returned to West Brom on a permanent basis in August 2010. He spent time on loan at Doncaster in 2011 before joining Wigan in July 2013. Last season he scored five times.

While Town are looking for another striker - the Blues have been in talks with Leeds regarding the loan signing of Billy Sharp - Fortuné wouldn’t appear to be an obvious target given his recent record.

Sharp came on as a 67th minute sub for Leeds as they beat Bournemouth 1-0 at Elland Road last night.

Whilst this man might not be the answer we definitely need another striker with some height to win those headers that Murph is superb at. If anything happens to Murph none of the other strikers has his power in the air. Of all the names mentioned Wood from Leicester could be the answer but doubt we can afford the loan fee and wages.

Some say he couldn't hit a barn door but a few seasons ago and I include myself in that legion of thinkers that Daryl Murphy couldn't hit one if those either. Look at Murphy now. I think it is more about being able to mould in the mix that is being created. Some players fit and others never make it even if they have been awesome elsewhere. Chopra is a good example scoring for fun before he joined us and suffered a drought once signed with his baggage.

I trust MM to make those choices and bring in quality that want to join and play for the club COYB

No thank you. This would be a very poor option and frankly worse than Sammon. Sharp is still the best option.
