Quiet Deadline Day Expected
Monday, 2nd Feb 2015 06:00

The final day of the January transfer window looks set to pass quietly at Portman Road with little movement in either direction. Clubs have until 11pm this evening to add to their squads, although Football League sides can utilise the ‘emergency’ loan provision from a week’s time until the fourth Thursday in March.

Speaking on Friday, manager Mick McCarthy said no one would be moving on, aside perhaps from young players going out on loan to gain experience. Out-of-favour striker Paul Taylor may well join another club or perhaps have his contract settled.

In terms of additions, it's likely that 19-year-old former Shelbourne winger Dylan Connolly's move to the Blues will be confirmed.

Aside from that McCarthy has said he will look at using the loan system as and when required in the remaining months of the season.

Managing director Ian Milne told Saturday’s Life’s a Pitch on BBC Radio Suffolk that no deals were ongoing and that no bids had been received for the likes of Tyrone Mings, Teddy Bishop or Daryl Murphy during the window, despite plenty of media speculation.

“Nothing at all. I can look you in the eyes and say we’ve got nothing going on, it’s very quiet,” he said.

“I was talking to the owner Marcus Evans and he said there’s nothing, no interest and that’s how we want it to be.

“My personal feeling is that the closer it gets to the final day of the transfer window the less and less we’d want to do a deal anyway because we want this team [to stay together]. It’s business as usual.”

The Blues are challenging for promotion for the first time since Evans took over in December 2007 and Milne says the Blues owner is keen not to do anything which might hamper the team’s chances of going up.

“Marcus takes advice from Mick and there’s been no change from the last time we were talking all about this in the last transfer window. Why would we want to change it with this team, it’s got strength and depth.”

Looks like once again another 'quiet' deadline day at PR once again! - once I read the EADT and it mentioned 'hopefully nobody will be leaving' I thought to myself I should think not with a club aiming for automatic promotion, players should be coming in, like at Bournemouth, Derby, Boro etc.

The loan window will probably be used by MM but as mentioned still question marks about players staying/leaving particularly at the play-off stages (if we make it).

I appreciate why the club are playing by the rules and doing the right thing, one for which I am pleased and two for not upsetting team morale! My beef is with FFP! Where are the fines being dished out to QPR and Leicester for last year! This year we have two clubs who play in sheds with no income paying out or wanting to pay out large sums of money they haven't generated. Yes they have rich owners like us but are gambling on getting up by doing so! When they do go up are they going to get fined?! I doubt it! QPR were gng to get done 40 mil in Jan apparently but nothing! An overspead last year of 54 million with a wage bill more than Athletico Madrid and then I have to listen to that p....k redknapp moaning that Man Utd are spending 200 million and it isn't right! I thought FFP was based on income, therefore Man Utd can do it, they sell more shirts in Asia than any other club does in gate receipts. I don't want to spend and know we can't spend for the sake of it but we are going to get left behind and as such we won't make it. I so hope I'm wrong but fear I won't be. We need bodies as injuries and suspensions plus burn out will kill us. Some of our players have run a season already due to their lack of natural ability and now we are gng to suffer for doing the right thing. Football stinks, and no body will turn round in May and say how ITFC did the right thing and missed out, it will be Eddie Howe this, Steve McClaren that and nothing will be done to them! They said fines would be given to charity which in my opinion is wrong. IM not against charity but the money should go to all the clubs who struggle in league one and two who run on a shoestring. Then through the tossers in the conference and promote clubs who can better themselves. I just hope mick has a couple of gems up his sleeve in the loan market, otherwise we will all be on the floor again as we gave it a right go and missed out. I feel come May we will be gutted and all because the rules have not been enforced as promised! COYB

Mick and ME have been proving 'supporters' wrong for two seasons now!!!!!!

Or we could just hope with a bit more weight training Chambers, Berra, Smith and Mings can kick it a bit harder and a bit longer and not only bypass midfield, they could clear the strikers too and shoot at goal from defense. Supporters want JW back on loan, I seem to remember his last loan spell was mostly spent sitting on the deck or injured. Can't believe how quickly the confidence has gone from the squad and supporters.

Blueherts - Absolute rubbish. Any team has the potential of being a 'top team' with or without money!! We have that opportunity right now. We have several players who the 'so-called' big boys are eyeing, we need to hang on to them, add some more from the Academy and get MM to change his attitude about going for a win, then we will be there. Nineteen Nineties, whatever has happened to the ambtion of you young supporters? If you are only interessted in hanging in the lower reaches then surely Colchester would be a better fit for you. COYB

Pjh it's nothing like that ., he can extinguish all his £87 million by getting promoted, it seems they really don't want to as they as well it is just a write off.

Airliner-I agree promotion would wipe out the debt and I am sure if promotion could be GUARANTEED money would be thrown at achieving it but at this stage spending big for us ,Derby or anyone else does not GUARANTEE it.
If big money is spent and promotion NOT achieved, the debt gets bigger and no doubt gates get even smaller.
I would love ITFC to be sensibly able to spend £5m or so but sensibly they cannot.

Keep saying it.. We don't need to spend much if anything. Just get Dinosaur to change tactics and play right formation and players. Perhaps ME should exert some influence because I think it's the manager rather than the owner who's holding us back. ME isn't dim and the lure of the promised land of the Premier League must be worth reaching out for.

How embarrassing.
Bournemouth bid £5m Norwich £3m for players,Ince loaned to Derby Wright Phillips to Brighton, and we can't get off our ar*e despite a thin squad and poor form.
This is so going to so cost Marcus.

No big deal....us and most of the rest of the league teams. Slaughter me if want, but a couple of premiership loan players would be ok, a touch of flair in midfield and upfront.

If we don't go up we can recoup any money from mings, bishop, mcgoldrick. Let's be frank, they will be sold anyway. Only promotion will keep them

BillBlue - calm down mate - we all want the same whether we started watching in the 50s 60s 70s ( as I did) or newer supporters. We can all be dewey eyed about the late 70s early 80s but we haven't been a 'footballing team' for a long time but we will keep on supporting and yes we can all have opinions - as you have yours
Respect but disagree that's fine
Calm down

Pip50...Bournemouth have an extremely rich (billions) owner, no debt and probably a very large fine next year and a possible transfer embargo (Why do you think Harry Redknapp is moaning at QPR they cannot spend big despite a generous owner who owns Air Asia)
Norwich have 3 years worth of parachute payments so they can afford £3m. ME has made it quite clear, and obviously agreed by MM that we have to live within our means - he has backed a Cat 1 Academy and (presumably) quite large wages on the likes of Berra,Parr,Murphy, McGoldrick, Chambers etc.
I would love it if the team played like Bobby Robson's great team but that aint going to happen.Sir Bobby was here in pre Sky days when the playing field was level and we were able to swap R Belfit for D Johnson from Everton with no money changing hands. Those days are gone. Even the Evertons and Aston Villas can't compete with the big 5 these days so I for one am very happy with the way this season has gone so far. MM and TC know what we need but if the players he wants aren't available he is not going out to buy players he doesn't believe in or trust.

I know it's ridiculous to say but the players played like a team that didn't want to be promoted since the southampton away match. I wonder if most of them thought they wouldn't get a look in at premiership level and now that is playing in their minds? Just a thought....

We have to make additions to this squad as I'm sure any decent midfielder would want to come here as they haven't hot the billy sharp excuses of not being able to get ahead of certain players cos even my 7 year old could get into our midfield .... (Exception of Bru)

Nice to see us at our ambitious best once again! No one coming in ..... really! No one leaving .... well, let's wait and see. If Liverpool or Arsenal turn up later this evening with £5m or so for Mings will the club really turn it down? Maybe, maybe not! It really gets me when you see the likes of Bournemouth showing more ambition/initiative than we are! Let's hope we can at least hold onto a play-off position, though that must have a question mark over it with our paper thin squad.

I wish an interview could be done with AMBROSE/PARR/SEARS to see how they feel about not being selected to start above hopeless Chambers(at right back) Anderson/ Tabb, and under-performing Mcgoldrick maybe not Sears quite yet as he has only been here a couple of weeks but when involved shows more awareness than most of our team put together. Ambrose and Tabb also have done nothing wrong get get overlooked week in week out by a stubborn manager.

Whilst trying to read everything I can re Ipswich I seem to have missed somewhere any article that says " Evans turns down request for money from McCarthy" so I therefore must presume that ME hasn't said no and perhaps MM hasn't asked because he hasn't found a player that fits his requirements. Who knows? Perhaps a little easy to blame ME
