Quiet Deadline Day Expected
Monday, 2nd Feb 2015 06:00

The final day of the January transfer window looks set to pass quietly at Portman Road with little movement in either direction. Clubs have until 11pm this evening to add to their squads, although Football League sides can utilise the ‘emergency’ loan provision from a week’s time until the fourth Thursday in March.

Speaking on Friday, manager Mick McCarthy said no one would be moving on, aside perhaps from young players going out on loan to gain experience. Out-of-favour striker Paul Taylor may well join another club or perhaps have his contract settled.

In terms of additions, it's likely that 19-year-old former Shelbourne winger Dylan Connolly's move to the Blues will be confirmed.

Aside from that McCarthy has said he will look at using the loan system as and when required in the remaining months of the season.

Managing director Ian Milne told Saturday’s Life’s a Pitch on BBC Radio Suffolk that no deals were ongoing and that no bids had been received for the likes of Tyrone Mings, Teddy Bishop or Daryl Murphy during the window, despite plenty of media speculation.

“Nothing at all. I can look you in the eyes and say we’ve got nothing going on, it’s very quiet,” he said.

“I was talking to the owner Marcus Evans and he said there’s nothing, no interest and that’s how we want it to be.

“My personal feeling is that the closer it gets to the final day of the transfer window the less and less we’d want to do a deal anyway because we want this team [to stay together]. It’s business as usual.”

The Blues are challenging for promotion for the first time since Evans took over in December 2007 and Milne says the Blues owner is keen not to do anything which might hamper the team’s chances of going up.

“Marcus takes advice from Mick and there’s been no change from the last time we were talking all about this in the last transfer window. Why would we want to change it with this team, it’s got strength and depth.”

"Championship promotion hopefuls Brentford have signed defender Jack O'Connell from Blackburn Rovers for an undisclosed fee."

Have to say we should be sniffing around 1 or 2 , who knows there may be a surprise in the morning or maybe the loan window may provide the answer?

I just look at the 'much the muchness' midfield and really think it needs freshening up, Bru and Bishop haven't been bad for us this season but not quite ready for a pivotal part in a promotion push - Anderson, S Hunt, Tabb, Ambrose I feel won't have that extra gear we need when we enter March onwards so whether it be through transfer or loan the end of the season (including play-offs) this area has to be strengthened.
Just getting a couple of quality players will no doubt bring a renewed and much needed boost at the club which at the present time.
If nothing changes then don't expect automatic promotion but a choppy ride to stay in the play-offs!

As ME said once "we are always only 2 players away from being a great team"

Quite dull all this whining.
3 points off the top and a manager who has deserves a little respect.

You clowns amaze me, so we are 3 points off the top, so what, we have got there playing hoofball with a midfield devoid of quality except Bishop who was a virtual unknown at the start of the season. Just ask your selves this, would Anderson, Tabb, Skuse, Hyam or any of the other MM donkeys get into any other sides in the top 10 of this division? I think not. Those saying Bournmouth have a multi million owner and Norwich have parachute payments should look at the Sunday Times rich list to see how much our glorious owner is worth I sometimes pine for the days of John Duncan

Lots of players seem to be having contracts terminated by mutual consent at the end of transfer windows these days. FFP the reason? Maybe we are going to look on the "rejects" pile over the next few days/weeks again.

Well said Wayway. Enough of this nonsense and MM platitudes. To quote the manager: 'it's bonkers.'

Thanks Blueheart - yes of course we all want the same thing - to be one of the two top clubs in the Country, nothing else, nothing less! The reason I am making this current post is to thank all posters on here for such a really good variation and dissention of opinion whiie remaining in the bounds of fellow supporters. No nasty personalisation as there has been, quite recently, all sides opinions are staked and issues aired and this whole Board has been a pleasure to read, something we have not enjoyed for a long while. Congrats to everyone involved and a big thank you to you because you have enlivened my day, Now COYB just go on and WIN!
