Chaplow Training With Town
Monday, 16th Feb 2015 14:59

Millwall midfielder Richard Chaplow is training with the Blues with a view to joining Mick McCarthy’s squad on loan.

The 30-year-old has fallen out of favour at the Den with the last of his 10 appearances this season having come in Millwall’s 4-0 FA Cup replay defeat at Bradford City a month ago.

According to News at Den, Chaplow will spend the week with the Blues, having been told he will not be offered new terms when his current Lions deal is up at the end of the season and that he is free to find himself a new club.

Chaplow started his career with Burnley before moving on to West Brom in 2005. The Accrington-born midfielder spent time on loan at Southampton while a Baggies player, prior to joining Preston in 2008.

Another spell on loan with the Saints followed in 2010, before he made the switch more permanent in January 2011.

A former England U19, U20 and U21 international, Chaplow moved to Millwall initially on loan in March 2013, signing a two-year deal with the Lions that summer after his Southampton contract was terminated.

Meanwhile, former Blues striker Danny Haynes is on trial with League One Scunthorpe having left Notts County by mutual consent in December. The 27-year-old recently spent time training with Gillingham.

Chaplow is an excellent potential signing, I don't know why people are being so negative. We need a larger squad than we have at the moment and he does a great job in midfield; particularly in winning back the ball. If we decide to play HoofBall again (which we will) he could prove a very shrewd signing. He's experienced and MM does have a habit of getting the best out of players.

Only small issue I have is that he's extremely similar to Jay Tabb (in his style of play). Tabb and Chaplow on the same pitch could prove VERY dull to watch.

Have to agree with Walberswick. MM's record in the transfer market at PR isn't actually great. Still don't think Anderson & Tabb are good enough & what about Nouble, Wordsworth, Sammon, etc. OK very little money has changed hands but we don't know what the wage structure is. Hope this fella doesn't arrive.
