Stewart Taking Legal Action Against Leeds
Tuesday, 21st Apr 2015 15:04

Town winger Cameron Stewart is reported to be taking legal action against his former loan club Leeds United after a permanent switch to the Whites broke down last summer.

According to the Daily Star, Stewart, who is currently on loan at Barnsley, and his legal team will attend an FA arbitration hearing along with Leeds tomorrow claiming that the West Yorkshire club owe him £800,000 in unpaid wages.

The 23-year-old and Leeds signed a three-year deal which was due to come into effect last summer at the end of his contract with Hull City following a 93-day loan at Elland Road.

However, by the time the contract was lodged with the Football League not all the signatories were still at the club, including former managing director David Haigh, who had moved on in the April after falling out with club president Massimo Cellino.

Cellino then refused to get the paperwork re-signed, pulled the plug on the deal and now claims the contract is invalid.

The figure being claimed is the difference between the cash Stewart is earning at Town and the higher sum he would have received at Leeds.

The former Manchester United trainee has made only two FA Cup sub appearances for the Blues since signing a three-year deal in July after the breakdown of the Leeds switch. He has made three starts and one sub appearance since joining the Tykes in March.

Speaking shortly after his Oakwell move, Stewart admitted that he may not have a future at Town but hoped that that wouldn’t be the case.

“Until somebody tells me no, I’ll try and chase that," he said. "But I think you’ve got to be realistic sometimes and when things don’t go as well as they [might], sometimes you’ve got to be prepared to move on.”

Everything that's wrong with this level of football, players on ludicrous sums of £££. Fair play to him seeking what he's owed, I hope FFP will go someway in the Champ/L1/L2 to addressing out of control wages.

Let me check I have got this right, he is claiming he is owed £800k for the difference between leeds and our wage. Over a 3 year contract, that is equivalent to £5.1k a week - what the hell did leeds off him?!

Can only assume and from what I have seen of him he does not have the work ethic required by MM and TC. A shame as whenever he came up against us he was a thorn in our side. Looks like he will be moving on.

Complete waste of space. Who spotted him - Graeme Souness, on a tip off?

Totally agree Stowtractorboy and that was why we signed him supposedly, because he was a real threat whenever he played against us. Shane it doesn't appear to have worked out, as wolves showed on sat, what pace can do if used properly

I dread to think what we are paying him.

You would think he would have wanted to get his head down & work hard - he would only have to tackle back to get in MM's side, assuming he was still decent going forward.. His pace would have been useful. Fair play to MM he has tried to find those pacey wingers in Henshall & Stewart but either can't be that good.. Maybe players earn too much money so are just not hungry enough? 2k a week is £100k p.a, way more than the national average football fan.

Nice to see him finally in 'action' - have to say I didn't think us signing him was a good move, so far proved to be right!

All those who've been clamouring for him to start more games have gone a bit quiet on this story...

Sadly this sullies his name a little inthink. You would have thought that a young lad who has it all to prove might want to keep out of trouble. Do you think maybe his agent has said 'look cam, you might not make it as a top footballer so let's try and get every penny we can before you drop down to league 2'..?

Is he injured? Never seems to play for Barnsley.
You would hope that after his injury set back he would put his head down, work hard and put the Leeds saga to bed. You won't find a fairer club than Ipswich to help you achieve your potential.
League one or two beckons for him but we could be stuck with him if money is his motivator.

On around £9000 p/w here isn't he. Lovely stuff. The new Taylor!?

It sounds ludicrous but if he is saying a contract wasn't honoured...isn't that fair enough? We'd do it in our respective careers. He could get injured tomorrow in training and have his career ended. Good luck to him!

Who actually signed him was it Keane,, so long since he's been in the frame that I can't remember. I thought it was MM but correct me if I'm wrong.
