Town Reveal New Kits
Thursday, 14th May 2015 21:08

Town launched the new home and away kits for the 2015/16 season at an event at Cineworld in Cardinal Park this evening.

The home kit sees a return to the pinstripes first seen in the first Pioneer-sponsored Adidas kit in the 1981/82 season, while the away strip is a Barcelona inspired red and blue affair with a yellow trim.

The kits are again produced by Adidas, who returned as Town’s suppliers last summer, signing a four-year deal. Marcus Evans remains the sponsor.

The new home kit will be available for pre-order from 9am on Friday morning.

Why have we got Barcelona's kit as our away kit, is this to make us play like them, the colours make no sense - they aren't our colours and we probably won't be able to wear either kit away to a team in blue!!

I actually like both shirts though!

So pleased that we have got rid of that ghastly orange kit. Agree with others that every time we play away to a red or blue team our new away kit will clash so what's the point of that

Like the home shirt but any shirt with yellow on it will not be worn by me.

@BriggEnd
Just ordered the home shirt - says it will be dispatched on June 5th.

Anyone know what the dark shirt with orange/reddish trim and short sleeves is in the promo video?

3rd kit?

The shades of red and blue on the away kit are probably different enough that you could get away with that against bright red and blue kits...I'm never too bothered about the away kit to be honest, especially when it only hangs around for one season. They often look ghastly at first sight, but looking back I'm actually quite found of some of the odd away kits we've had down the years, Green King burgundy/green/turquoise, the Abott Ale cream & black...

The home kit on the other hand, still waiting for one to really compel me to go and buy it, not sure if this is the one either, mind may be changed when seeing it on the rack.

Been waiting for a collar for some time, tick. I'm not against pinstripes - I've got them on the UEFA Cup 81 retro shirt the club offers, but I think it needs to be all or nothing, looks odd leaving the sleeves blue, I think just plain blue with a white collar would provide a smarter look.

Of course it is all a matter of individual taste.    Personally I was disappointed wheoved back to adidas last year but having said that I thought the orange away kit this year was super.  One of the quotes from Mick McCarthy was the importance of having a strong bold colour that stood out and would at a glance be picked up by the players on the pitch when looking for their colleagues.  This was a view I could understand especially when there are a number of attractive kits around but an attractive kit doesn't always do this.   I think it may have been Chelsea (I stand to be corrected) who scrapped a grey kit in recent years because this seemed to have blended into the fuzziness of the colours of the background crowd and made it difficult for players to spot their colleagues at a distance.

I really like the Barcelona style kit however, I am not sure it is anywhere near as strong as the orange and I sort of like the idea of maintaining the same base colour us are away strip BUT that just doesn't fit in with marketing and Sales which probably takes full advantage of being able to come up with something completely different each year.

Back to the home kit.  The current kit I think is a bit more than OK and broadly speaking I liked it.  The new kit I am afraid will have to grow on me.  I do however personally think that “Less” is often more and when I have seen the more simple designs of the shirts of both Everton and Leicester in recent seasons which I have really liked I often think why couldn't we match them in this respect — but of course as a starter we now have to have the traditional three stripes of adidas.   Interestingly enough some of the top clubs have moved away from adidas in recent years to perhaps give themselves more freedom in design.

Personally, don't like the away kit. Much rather a more traditional White top and black shorts.

Home kit us ok. But actually prefer the current home kit, as it's more simple.

@budgieplucker Are you thinking of the Man Utd grey kit that was changed at half-time at Southampton (?) as the players couldn't see each other?

I am old enough to remember 1978 when Town won the FA Cup wearing Adidas branded shirts with a collar so no problems for me there.
My biggest gripe is that we are changing both shirts every season now just to try and squeeze a few more quid out of supporters.
Any discount for Season Ticket holders?

Don't like either kit tbh. I'd like to see us go right back to our roots with blue and white stripes but failing that plain bue or blue with white sleeves are fine. But pinstripes are just naff. And a "Barcelona inspired" knock off is simply a bad idea.

I think the theory is the away kit from the previous season is retained as the third kit (with sponsors change when appropriate).

OK why do we always mess this up. We are Ipswich, plain blue and white for the home kit. Why do we need all this extra stripes etc? Are we Sheffield Wednesday?

As for the away kit...AWFUL. More Crystal Palace than Barcelona if you ask me. AGAIN why? We always do better when we have an orange away strip.

If you ask me what we should have is...plain blue home shirt, orange away kit and the old red and black striped kit (a la Premier League 1993) for the third choice strip.
