McCarthy Issues Hands-Off Warning
Monday, 18th May 2015 19:04

Boss Mick McCarthy has issued a hands-off warning to clubs who might be interested in signing the Blues’ prize assets this summer. David McGoldrick, who has told McCarthy he wants to stay to prove a point following his injury problems, and Tyrone Mings were the subject of Premier League offers last season, while 27-goal Championship top scorer Daryl Murphy and Teddy Bishop have also been linked with top flight clubs.

“I had a discussion with [owner] Marcus [Evans] yesterday about the players that might be targets,” McCarthy told the club site.

“You are looking at Murph, with 27 goals this season. Didz is another. I had a word with him and he’s not looking to move. He wants to come back and get himself fit and show everyone what a good player he is again.

“He has been so disappointed with the injuries he has had over the last two seasons and feels he has a point to prove.

“I’ve spoken to Bish and Ty as well. I’ve pointed out to them that Cressy played 140 or so games here and another 100 or so at Tranmere before he moved to West Ham.

“He was ready to make that move. He had done his time and he has gone there and won every player of the year award going. He would not have done that if he had played 40 games here.

“So I’ve said to Bish and Ty, ‘You are staying here’. I want to progress. I don’t want to sell however much money is offered. I don’t want to lose our best players. I want young, fit and vibrant players to take us forward.”

McGoldrick, the subject of a £7 million Leicester City offer last August, is contracted until the summer of 2016, the Blues having activated an option for a further season earlier in the campaign, while Murphy - linked with Hull City in January - signed a new deal last July, which is also up in a year's time.

Mings, for whom Crystal Palace bid £3.5 million in August, put pen to paper on a contract until the end of June 2017 last September, while Bishop, like the Blues left-back tracked by Premier League sides all year, recently extended his contract until the summer of 2018 with Town having an option for a further season.

Elsewhere, Leeds United are reported to have joined Birmingham City in showing interest in former Blue Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, who was recently released by newly promoted Bristol City.

Not surprised Tabb is staying another season as MM has spent most of the season licking his poop shoot.

Interesting thought mathie&marshall, goals, goals, goals but I am wondering who is going to supply the ammunition from midfield? Is MM going to sign ball playing midfielders? I think not and with the awful prospect of a fit again Hyam no doubt being the first name on the teamsheet as usual, I think you may be disappointed

@prebbs007, surely the only "incest" in the sqaud could be the hunt brothers?? Lol

Lets hope you guys who can't see Mings qualities have to put up with them again next season. No doubt you would prefer another defender who aims for the nearest satellite but I'm hoping for defenders who look to keep the ball and pass it to someone in our team. You need players who work hard, but are encouraged to play when they get the ball.
If Tyrone proves not to be the player we hope he will become then fine, get rid, but that is not the opinion of people who earn a living from the game!

I wish people would remember this was mings first season.I also wish they remembered that when Cresswell first arrived he was older than mings is now and had played more games.

Oldclactonblue I would suggest you watch Mings more carefully as he is 1 of the main culprits for looking for the nearest satellite as you call it.... He often pumps the ball aimlessly down the pitch looking for a flick on or mistake from the defender. And you want a defender who passes to a blue shirt, I'd highlight the build up to the penalty, where he gave the ball away with a poor pass then didn't win the tackle in the middle of the pitch. First season at professional level and has shown glimpses of quality, he also has great potential, which I hope he fulfills, but not the finished article yet

mings looks great for 70 mins of every game ,its then concentration that lets him down ,i suspect he will have a great season , but to me he looks like a centre half ultimately. Or a holding midfield player.

you must have been watching a different game if you think mings was our worst player v norwich and why would we want to sell our improving young players... the boy needs time to get better which he will, like tommy has done, i seem to remember tommy getting pelters early on... i just want us to work on distributing the ball out of defence better and improving set pieces with all our big players we need to improve on corners and free kicks. i personally think chambers was at fault for the first goal at carrow rd.

Mings won championship player of the month this season he showed he's got what it takes admittedly he's not had a great second half of The season but he has just had his first full proper season to date. Give him a break

Only a year left on Murphy's deal, that needs sorting quickly.

There's a dilemma!
Do you offer an extension to an injury prone player who was worth 7 million 9 months ago who can now walk away for free in 12 months.
My money is on if he can get fit he wouldn't sign one & is looking to walk for free.

Jeeeez, so many muppets on here. Our best season for many years finished two days ago and some "fans" are already being negative about next season.... It's really unbelievable! keeping hold of mcgoldrick is key, well played Mick AGAIN!!!

Beattiesballbag added 22:42 - May 18
Why is Mick being praised ? has he got McGoldrick to sign an extension......it doesn't say that!
So if McGoldrick walks in 12 months (assuming he gets fit) when we could have got 7 million for him are you going to say well done Mick?

I hope we've got Berra nailed on for next season. without a doubt our best all-rounder.

All sounds good to me. Both Mings and Bish are still very inexperienced so would be risk for any Prem team. I think Sears will be our top scorer next season especially if MM gets to grip with midfield

Each to their own but here is my take on posts on here
1/ re linhdi You say mings MAY go on to play at top level.WILL go on to play in top level
2/can't remember blokes name who posted to sell mings for any amount of money, fcukin BEHAVE,he has played one season at this level and is going to be a star.
3/if we keep most of players(mings,Berra, mcgoldrick, murphy, bishop esp.) and add 2/3 quality signings then I genuinely think we have a good chance of finishing in top 2.
4/ffs I know it's boring and said a thousand times but ffs we MUST play chambers cd and parr rb
5/McCarthy IS the man to get us out of this division,I'm not saying ME should give him as much money as he gave RK and PJ,but if he was to give him 2/3 million then I would go as far as saying that would definitely get us up next season(risky but look at the prize -150 million)

Still gutted but now looking forward to next season

At the end of the day there will only be speculation and conjecture for next 2 or 3 weeks I can see the main stay eg murphy, sears, didzy, chambo, smith berra, bishop, mings all staying and with a couple of additions eg right back and centre mid. and if we play 3 up top another striker, but until july we prob wont hear much so I think if we want to make a list of names nobody will get it right as we don't know how much is available or who they are looking at, lets just get ready to look forward to next season don't think we show dwell on the past season over we don't go up lets draw a line in the sand and move on people.
