McCarthy Issues Hands-Off Warning
Monday, 18th May 2015 19:04

Boss Mick McCarthy has issued a hands-off warning to clubs who might be interested in signing the Blues’ prize assets this summer. David McGoldrick, who has told McCarthy he wants to stay to prove a point following his injury problems, and Tyrone Mings were the subject of Premier League offers last season, while 27-goal Championship top scorer Daryl Murphy and Teddy Bishop have also been linked with top flight clubs.

“I had a discussion with [owner] Marcus [Evans] yesterday about the players that might be targets,” McCarthy told the club site.

“You are looking at Murph, with 27 goals this season. Didz is another. I had a word with him and he’s not looking to move. He wants to come back and get himself fit and show everyone what a good player he is again.

“He has been so disappointed with the injuries he has had over the last two seasons and feels he has a point to prove.

“I’ve spoken to Bish and Ty as well. I’ve pointed out to them that Cressy played 140 or so games here and another 100 or so at Tranmere before he moved to West Ham.

“He was ready to make that move. He had done his time and he has gone there and won every player of the year award going. He would not have done that if he had played 40 games here.

“So I’ve said to Bish and Ty, ‘You are staying here’. I want to progress. I don’t want to sell however much money is offered. I don’t want to lose our best players. I want young, fit and vibrant players to take us forward.”

McGoldrick, the subject of a £7 million Leicester City offer last August, is contracted until the summer of 2016, the Blues having activated an option for a further season earlier in the campaign, while Murphy - linked with Hull City in January - signed a new deal last July, which is also up in a year's time.

Mings, for whom Crystal Palace bid £3.5 million in August, put pen to paper on a contract until the end of June 2017 last September, while Bishop, like the Blues left-back tracked by Premier League sides all year, recently extended his contract until the summer of 2018 with Town having an option for a further season.

Elsewhere, Leeds United are reported to have joined Birmingham City in showing interest in former Blue Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, who was recently released by newly promoted Bristol City.

Fun how some people moan about Ty Mings, seem to remember some people moaning about Cresswell in his first season with us. Give the young guy a break and let him develope, judge him at the end of next season.
Nice to hear that MM wants to keep people, but August is a long way off and money does strange things to some people

Happy to see us keeping McG and will be happy to see Murphy McG and Sears scoring more goals than last season. We do need more creative and goals from midfield. Kings is inexperienced at this level and will develop. It's funny to hear people wanting him to go. I thought Delaney was a good defender and couldn't understand him being slated regularly. He went to Palace and has managed to keep his place there. The same with Creswell and he has done well at West Ham albeit seems to be given more free rein there than here.

We need youngsters to progress and Mings Bish etc need that chance. They won't be outstanding every week!

Let's see how we go next season first. COYB

All ways to see players go.They all good guys ,good team men, good club men All the best lads. However if we are going to improve and get new players in we must make space.I think Tabby should have gone to.Have you ever wondered what Micks cat might be called?

Marcus Evans is restricted by FFP, or don't know how much money he's allowed to spend but it won't be that much as it all depends on how much money we've got.coming into the club. As, apparently he's not gonna sell any big name players then that will be very little

next season should be the season we walk into the premiership,if mr evans is prepared to shell out out for the quality to add to a very strong hard working squad i cant see many teams even coming close.otherwise i can see we will have another season pretty much like the last one if we bring in more of the same type of player mick has brought in this season.we have an oppurtunity to go into the premier league with a strong sqaud with a bit of depth.how many teams have gone up and then as soon as they get up the whole sqaud is swamped with players that upset the balance.i remember the last time we were in europe we brought in players in (finidi !)instead of trusting what got you there in the first place.we are pretty much on course to go up,this transfer window is a big one for us. we need to go the extra mile for the players that are top of micks hit list. i also hope we can keep the majority of our good players.for me this is an oppurtunity that must not be wasted....

Dont really get this obsession with Mings..he looks like a top footballer but is he?..a bloke i work with looks great in his suit but hes c**p at his job. I think Mings has gone backwards since all the fuss earlier in season and mentioning him in same light as Cresswell? He isnt even close. I'd take the money if an offer came in.

Important to keep Bish, Murph and Didsy..and get some more creativity in midfield. We'll leak some goals as always but we'll score more than the opposition :) ...and perhaps go one better next season ;)

Very important we keep hold of our best players, but also need to add some quality in key positions
IMO. Love chambers who I believe fits in with being one of our better players, however he defo isn't a right back and hopefully this will be addressed. Reckon we need a new rb, pacey winger, and also a creative/goal scoring cm. at rb think paul caddis from Birmingham would be good as he could be used as a utility player also and seems consistent, think alan judge would be a great signing as the creative spark we need in midfield, that just leaves a winger, maybe Connelly could be that man? But someone with pace is a MUST. Dunno if we could get those targets mentioned though... I've probably been playing to much fifa!! Lol COYB

Mings has dipped in form since he burst into the scene for the first half if the season. Most on here were saying at that time that we never even missed Cressy, which proved to be wide of the mark.

However, Mings will be a top player & I predict a cracking season for him at Town 2015/16. We must retain our best players..

Since MM hasn't built anything that resembles a football team that can challenge for the Prem, you could let them all go. let MM pick another £200k worth of cast offs and let them hoof it up the pitch. The only thing that will get us promoted with MM is luck, and we'd need tons of that.

that is encouraging, dont want to break the team up now, having got so close to promotion,a couple of good additions, and we have a strong team.Just hope the team are taught to play to their strengths not the hit and hope tactics of the past season .Still think Mick is the man to do the job.
