Stewart Reportedly Wins Leeds Claim
Tuesday, 19th May 2015 15:45

Blues winger Cameron Stewart is reported to have won his compensation claim against his former loan club Leeds United.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, sources close to Stewart have revealed that the 24-year-old will receive at least £500,000 in compensation from the Elland Road club.

Stewart and Leeds signed a three-year deal which was due to come into effect last summer at the end of his contract with Hull City following a 93-day loan with the West Yorkshiremen.

However, by the time the contract was lodged with the Football League not all the signatories were still at the club, including former managing director David Haigh, who had moved on in the April after falling out with club president Massimo Cellino.

Cellino then refused to get the paperwork re-signed, pulled the plug on the deal and subsequently claimed that the contract was invalid.

The matter went to an FA arbitration hearing last month with Stewart claiming the West Yorkshire club owed him £800,000 in unpaid wages, the difference between the cash he is being paid at Town and the higher sum he would have received under his Leeds deal.

After his move to Elland Road broke down Stewart joined the Blues, signing a three-year contract.

However, having broken his jaw late in pre-season, the former Manchester United trainee was unable to win a place in the side and his only Blues appearances to date are the two sub appearances in the FA Cup ties against Southampton.

In March, the Mancunian joined League One Barnsley on loan for the remainder of the season. He made three starts and one sub appearance before the Tykes fell out of the running for a play-off place and in order to save cash opted not to continue to field loanees such as Stewart.

Speaking shortly after his move to Oakwell, the former England U17, U19 and U20 international said he hoped he had a future at Portman Road but admitted that he might have to find another club in the summer.

“I’d like to think [I have a future at Ipswich]. Until somebody tells me no, I’ll try and chase that but I think you’ve got to be realistic sometimes and when things don’t go as well as they [might], sometimes you’ve got to be prepared to move on.”

Meanwhile, former Blues striker Frank Nouble has been released by League One Coventry City, who are managed by ex-Town skipper and coach Tony Mowbray.

Nouble, 23, joined the Sky Blues on a half-season contract in January after his Town deal was settled following a loan spell at the Ricoh Arena.

I'll get a bucket load of down arrows but something to me doesn't add up here!

He was on loan at Barnsley, made 4 appearances. 3 starts, subbed off every game. Maybe not quite fit, or perhaps didn't make an impact.

He was given the #7 shirt by Mick though, shows he was highly thought of in the summer.

Must say I have a feeling this one isn't going to work out. We'll see I guess, over to Cam now he has the legal case behind him. Have a feeling Donnolly will be in the team next season a lot more than him.

Shame he hasn't shared the same determination to get into the 1st team, or indeed shine in the U21's! Seems an incredible amount of money to be paid/awarded to someone who to date has not shown he's that good. He has had plenty of time since recovering from injury to get his head down and work hard Yet another example of what is wrong in football today.

So his Leeds contract was worth £5,128 per week more than his Town contract is? MM always talks about us paying decent money for good players, Leeds must be paying way over the top. With a good pre-season behind him hopefully he can kick on and make an impact this season.

This settlement was the right outcome. As Currie10 suggests he must have something special to offer to be highly thought of at one point...now is his big chance to show it.

Is it not closer to about £1,000 a week difference given that it's a 3 year contract?

Stewert, O'Donnell, Connolly ... flip, I can't keep up with our wingers ....hoping one of them will play a part (at least on the bench) every game next season so that defenders wont be able to keep up either.

To make this happen - Mick must pick them
To make this happen - they must knuckle down and play their socks off

COYB !

Simonds92: £1000 a week for 3 years comes out at roughly £150,000, not £800,000.

Should be able to afford postage for the CVs he should now be sending out. Get rid - useless

156 weeks in 3 years.

£800,000 divided by 156 = £5,128.20

I assume we're still paying him £5k or £6k per week though

Stewart is a bit like the Evans-Blake situation of last season - town fans know hh is just the type of player we need in the team but it never seems to work out. Seb due to injury of course. If Stewart trains hard all close season Hopefully he can get himself back in the frame

Oh yeah right brain dead for a minute, crazy amount of money in difference most probably double what he's on here, no wonder he pursued it!

Amazing isn't it that a reserve team footballer who hasn't made a single league appearance for us, a second tier side, and has had little success in his career to date, can be worth so much money. The world has gone mad

Time for this lad to get his bloody act together, work his nuts off & prove he is worth the hype. He must surely be aware that MM demands a great work ethic to get anywhere near the 1st team or is he another one who thinks he is better than he really is. Down to you now fella.

£££££££££££££££££££££££££££, and the professional footballer. Whats new !

Maybe if the lad put as much effort on the pitch, as he has done with his finances at Leeds, maybe, just maybe, he might get his footballing career back on track....with Ipswich, I very much doubt it!
For me, many of them are well overpaid, and lack the desire or hunger to accomplish a glittering career.

Hmm..actually getting the money out of Cellino & Leeds may prove troublesome. He must have been pretty poor to have hardly been used even from the bench last season, so plenty to prove.

On a different note; any chance we could temporarily remove the 'last match' window from the homepage? Not sure I can bear to look at it every time I check twtd for the next three months.....

Can we off load him?
0

Warkys_Tash added 20:38 - May 19
We shall see if Mick decides to off load, sounds like we are stuck with him for another two years if he doesn't want to go - unless he turns it around. Maybe he will now he has had his payday..

Oh well, any £500k out of the leeds coffers is a worthwhile result!

Its all up to him ,but i suspect an attitude is the issue , he hadn't worked out that in training and under 21games you have to bust a gut. He was a luxury in the under 21 games i saw. Needs a wholesale attitude change , i hope he's got it in him ,although i suspect if we are offered 100k we will sell him to any one of rotherham ,shed wed ,huddersfied .
