Bishop Charged With Betting Offences By FA
Tuesday, 26th May 2015 17:18

Town midfielder Teddy Bishop has been charged with multiple breaches of the FA’s rules relating to betting.

A statement on the FA’s website reads: “Ipswich Town’s Edward Bishop has been charged for alleged multiple breaches of FA Rule E8 in relation to betting. The player has until 1st June 2015 to respond to the charge.”

Town media manager Steve Pearce told TWTD: “We are aware of the charge that Teddy faces but won’t be making any further comment until the result of the disciplinary procedure is known.”

Anyone involved in football in any capacity is banned from betting on matches anywhere under rules which were introduced at the start of the season.

The Town squad attended an FA talk at the training ground during pre-season in which the new rules were outlined to them.

Players previously found guilty of betting on football matches have received fines or in more serious cases suspensions.

But to put a positive spin on this...........perhaps it might deter the Premiership clubs for a while?

Hopefully this will be a shot in the arm for him to make headlines for the right reasons, as the jury is still out on his ability to have a decent impact at this level in my opinion. Next season is a big one for the bish.

Given his age and naivety, would have thought a fine and maybe a warning. Think a suspension would come if carried on doing it.

On the bright side it might stop clubs trying to poach him

On seeing the headline my instinctive reaction was, "Oh, no!" (or words to that effect).

However, he is a young man who is going to make mistakes. When I was his age I was at University and could make many mistakes out of the public eye.

He will learn the lesson the hard way; avoid bookies like the plague.

Certainly NOT a good start to the lad's career - should know much, much better.

Let's hope he learns a lesson - post haste - IF a case is proved.

Bit worrying that the offence is for 'multiple offences'. I just hope that he has not fully understood the new rules as opposed to anything more sinister.

....... 'multiple breaches' is the huge concern - for one so young ... !!

🔔 end! Silly naive young lad! Sooner they nip this in the bud the better, don't go down the slippery path a bored young footballer could get into.

I hope the bet was on Skuse scoring this season, if it were it'll pay any fine x 10!

Blimey, we don't know the circumstances or if he actually broke any rules yet. This happens quite often in football and it's pretty impressive that this is the only negative story about player's lives off the pitch we've had at the club this season. I trust MM to sort it out and really hope he does, we need players like Bish and we couldn't afford to go and buy one.

Until we know the full facts bit hard to pass judgement. Hopefully it'll just be a fine and that is it. We need to remember he is 18. When I was 18 most of that year was spent in a drunken blur. Hopefully he was beating on Norwich loosing.

To be fair he missed the FA's pre-season talk as he was doing his paper round.

As a youth team player that probably wouldn't of been of legal age when this talk happened we don't know he was present at the rules were conveyed. Think there is also a worrying trend of people in my generation gambling. I would say at least 70% of people of similar age bet very frequently and may cause a serious problems in future.

It seems that most footballers spend their spare time in the bookies or at the tattoo parlour.

We must remember .. innocent until proven guilty and all that. But the rules are very straightforward, you must not bet on any footballing matter anywhere in the world.

Dexter Blackstock was done this time last year for 'multiple offences' He was fined £60,000 and banned from any football activity for 3 months. The ban however, will not be invoked unless he breaks these rules again before 2016.

Silly boy if found guilty. How do the FA find out? I doubt the bookies do the grassing.
