TWTD understands that Town are closing in on the signing of AFC Bournemouth striker Brett Pitman, while the Cherries have made a bid for Blues left-back Tyrone Mings.

Town hope to complete their move for Pitman before the end of the week with the player expected at Portman Road later today.

Pitman scored 14 goals - including a first-half hat-trick against Blackpool in March - in 21 starts and 18 sub appearances last season as the Cherries topped the Championship and reached the Premier League for the first time in their history.

The St Helier-born frontman started his career with Bournemouth before joining Bristol City in 2010. He returned to Dean Court initially on loan in December 2012 before signing a permanent deal the following summer.

The 27-year-old still has a year left on that contract and it's likely he will cost the Blues a fee. While the majority of Town’s summer business will be free transfers and loans, MD Ian Milne recently told TWTD that there would be some cash to spend on fees if required.

As reported yesterday, Blues left-back Tyrone Mings was linked with the Cherries after the odds on him making a move to the Dorset club were slashed by SkyBet, who are no longer offering the bet on their website. We understand that as per the subsequent speculation, a bid has been made.

The two proposed deals are not understood to be linked or dependent upon one another.

DurhamTownFan added 15:40 - Jun 25 Replacement for Murphy..? Even if Murphy stays, I think he needs help what with McGoldrick's continuing loss of form and fitness. Sears finished last year very well, but was mainly about energy and pace than guile and I think he might struggle a bit more this coming year (although I hope not!) I'd be relatively happy with this deal if it is related to the proposed Mings deal. Whatever anyone says about lack of ambition etc if we sell him, fact is it's pretty harsh to stand in the guy's way of playing in the Premier League and the chance to pick up some valuable funds, possibly for re-investment.

dirtyboy added 15:53 - Jun 25 Not sure on this. I see it as an indication that McGoldrick, Murphy or Sears are on their way out. Perhaps even something to cover a move that might happen in January? Not fussed on Mings, huge potential, wish he'd stay, but given we're a Championship club adhering to FFP, selling Mings is a simple business decision. If we could afford to keep him AND spend 5 or 6m, we should. Given we can't, we have to make sacrifices. Regardless of that, I have faith that the club is in good hands and being managed in a careful and thoughtful manner.

Feels like the 2 clubs have had this in the pipeline (Mings/Pitman) for more than the last day or so, more than just a coincidence. Pitman has done fairly well at Bournemouth and has scored every other game for them so hopefully a good acquisition, just hope in the next week or so that he's not replacing a departing Murphy.

neillrumsey added 16:17 - Jun 25 Mings will be a massive loss to the team. Yes he makes mistakes and quite a few towards the end of season but he was a huge asset of our attacking play. Sad times losing our quality players. Agree Murphy on his way as well but I can live with that. He had a fantastic season last season but has never scored goals like that in previous seasons so take the money and he deserves a shot at the PL.

paulthebluealien added 16:46 - Jun 25 Pitman is a top, top striker at this level. This has no bearing on Murphy staying or leaving. You need 4 fully fit, quality strikers to challenge consistently for a whole season which is something we missed last season. This provides us with this opportunity.

But if this happens i would like a statement from the club to say that there will be no one else leaving. I think if any true supporter would understand these two being allowed to leave with the amount of money be touted about.
