Mings Agrees Terms With Cherries in £8m Deal
Thursday, 25th Jun 2015 15:51

Town left-back Tyrone Mings is understood to have agreed a four-year deal with Bournemouth after Town accepted their bid of £8 million, with Brett Pitman and winger Ryan Fraser both set to move in the opposite direction.

Mings has agreed the terms subject to a medical, having held talks with the Cherries this morning, after being given permission to speak to them yesterday.

The deal, which it's understood could potentially rise to £10 million after the usual milestone clauses and includes a sell-on, is expected to be confirmed on Friday.

While Bournemouth striker Pitman is, as reported earlier, expected to join the Blues in the next couple of days in what's a separate deal - a free transfer according to local media on the South coast - Scottish U19 and U21 international winger Fraser is also due to move to Town on loan for the season as part of the Mings move.

Fraser, 21, started his career with hometown club Aberdeen before joining the Cherries in a £400,000 deal in January 2013. Last season the 5ft 4in tall midfielder - who operates on either flank, primarily on the left - made 11 starts and 16 sub appearances, scoring two goals. He is contracted until the summer of 2016.

News that the Cherries were targeting Mings broke yesterday when SkyBet slashed the odds of the 22-year-old making the move to 1/6.

Mings was watched by most of the Premier League last season with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea strongly linked.

Crystal Palace had a £3.5 million offer turned down last summer, while Newcastle were reported to have made an enquiry last week when they were said to have been quoted an initial fee of £8 million, rising to £10 million, again once further clauses were taken into account.

The Bath-born full-back joined the Blues from non-league Chippenham for a now-famous fee of £10,000 in December 2012.

Former U18s coach Russell Osman brought him to Portman Road for a trial on the recommendation of his son Toby, a team-mate of Mings, who had been released by Southampton as a schoolboy.

The one-time mortgage advisor made 49 starts and 15 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring once.

Town manager Mick McCarthy and owner Marcus Evans have both said that they are determined to keep hold of the Blues' key players this summer, however with the Blues' spending power again limited by the Championship’s Financial Fair Play rules, selling a player for a big fee will give McCarthy far greater scope as he looks to strengthen ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.

The Mings and Fraser and Pitman deals are likely to be completed on Friday, while Arsenal youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles is also expected to have his season-long loan confirmed.

Good luck to Mings, he is a decent guy who has a lot of potential, but for the time being, potential is all it is. I think he has blown hot and cold this season, which isn't suprising, bearing in mind it was his first season as a professional. He has looked too lax at times defensively and has also played with the breaks on too many times. 8 million, with Fraser on loan is an outstanding deal and simply couldn't be turned down. Now hopefully this money will be reinvested in the playing budget properly and could fund a promotion winning team

Has anyone considered that Bournemouth is closer to his home?

He reminded me of Titus Bramble in the way he always had a couple of lapses in concentration in him which usually proved costly so it's a hell of a deal 4 us especially if we don't have to sell anybody else but thank you & good luck 2 him & I hope he's a success.

I believe it is around £4mil up front plus the two players mentioned. £8mil after add-ons.

Personally I think this is a good deal for all involved and look forward to see what this means for our transfer policy!

I said yesterday we would sell Mings, and Murphy and Dids could go aswell as they are unhappy with the investment in the squad . 1 down and a striker signed ?

Massive loss to the club. Made mistakes but a player of real quality. IMO Cresswell is half the player of Mings as he has huge potential to go all the way.
Parr cannot replace Ming as he is a different type of player. Yes Parr will do a job but he hasn't the pace or attacking flair..
Good luck Mings fantastic season MOM on so many occasions.
Great to have a winger on board lets keep in on the ground

Good business in my opinion, Mings has potential but the second half of last season he was pretty average for some reason (maybe the long first Championship season for him was too much) if so the Premiership will come as a shock. I wonder how much the separate deal for Pitman was? anyway we should have money to spare hopefully on other players coming in.

Noticed Fraser played/started less than half of Bournemouth's games last season, injured or mainly a substitute?...anyway looks like a reasonable and genuine right winger!

8 Mill for Mings...?! Thought he would be with us for another season at least and didn't see this coming..
Good business I'd say, but spend it wisely as I'm sure super Mick will.
Blimey, if Mings is worth 8 Mill, my misses is worth at least £500K and she cooks..

The world of football has gone mad.

Thank you Tyrone..

Rather have Frazer sign permanently. Hopefully town will spend some.
Johnny Russell, quality winger/striker. Would be thrilled if got him, pitman, Frazer just for mings

I didn't believe there was anything in the speculation yesterday, so I'm surprised!!!
Hopefully we can now invest the money and get a couple of quality players in!

Better not be a Richard Wright type of 8million and we find out latter it was in fact much less.

Deals don't get much better for a club like us. Best of luck to the lad and great to see us doing good business like this.

Aaron Cresswell (Ipswich 2013/14 Championship) - Sold for £3.75m (rising to £7m)

Minutes Played: 3743
Goals: 2
Assists: 12
Key Passes: 56
Chances Created: 68
Tackles Won: 42
Interceptions: 60
Blocks: 9
Defensive Errors: 2
Yellow Cards: 2

Tyrone Mings (Ipswich 2014/15 Championship) - Reported £8m fee (rising to £10m)

Minutes Played: 3649
Goals: 1
Assists: 4
Key Passes: 52
Chances Created: 56
Tackles Won: 78
Interceptions: 114
Blocks: 14
Defensive Errors: 1
Yellow Cards: 10

Looking at the stats, we've got a VERY good deal here! £8m (potentially £10m) PLUS two players for a young player somewhat unproven in the Championship, but with potential.

The stats show that Cresswell was more confident going forward and sharing the defensive duties with the ML at the time he was with us. Tyrone had chances to do the same and when he did so looked threatening but these runs were rare while his first touch lacked consistency.

Jonny Parr looked plenty capable of filling his boots, and while he doesn't pose as big of an attacking threat, defensively he is sound.

These funds however need to be reinvested into the squad, I'd suggest some quality on the flanks and a cheeky bid for a certain Mr Williams.

Mings fans, don't worry this will not be a huge loss - but a great gain!

Can't say no at 8 million. How nice it is to see us get a decent amount for a player when we have been done for almost nothing on so many other occasions (especially when we were in administration).
The comparison with Cresswell is interesting. I would value Cresswell way higher (especially now), but the value of the player is also inflated when a team is doing well that the player is playing in.
Very well played by Mick et al. when they said no to 3.5 million (which is probably a fair amount for him).
Everyone talking about Murphy going, I don't see it, unless it were one of the promoted teams. As well as he did last year, he is in the twilight of his career and has played in the Premier League before and is settled with his family in the area.
Maybe he will sign for a lower league team in a couple of years, but I expect him to retire with us.
In our situation it is usually better to sell when the offer comes in. That's why we did so well to wait for a big offer to come.
In my opinion we should have sold McGoldrick when we had the crazy offer in from Leicester. If he comes good again this season coming and is fit then it will work out for us.
Whatever anyone might think about Mick's management and style (lack thereof) he is definitely popular in the boardroom.
If we are ever successful in the future, the financial management of the club mainly from Mick is what will have built that success. He is probably the best manager maybe in the country in that regard even if you don't like his style.

What great business.

Well done to MM. Parr is more than capable of steeping in.

No great loss, but an £8m shot in the arm. Happy days.
