Derby Linked With McGoldrick Move
Wednesday, 8th Jul 2015 10:01

Derby County are reportedly showing interest in Town striker David McGoldrick.

According to The Sun, the Rams are keen on adding the 27-year-old to their striking options and the frontman is claimed to be “open” to the potential switch.

McGoldrick, who was born in Nottingham and has previously represented both Notts County and Nottingham Forest, has a year left on his Town contract.

Speaking last week manager Mick McCarthy said that the Ireland international is determined to make a positive start to Town’s new season having missed most of the final months of 2014/15 due to a troublesome thigh injury.

“It is a big season for him and he knows that,” he said. “We spoke about it at the end of the season and he wants to come back flying.

“He’s having a couple of extra weeks off because he was involved with the Republic of Ireland.

“Hopefully, if he stays injury free, his season will be great, not a problem at all. He’s a top player.”

McGoldrick’s family moved back to the East Midlands last season having been unable to settle in Suffolk but this is not uncommon in football and the striker is understood to be happy at the club.

At the end of last season McCarthy said that the striker was “not looking to move” and issued a hands-off warning on both McGoldrick and Daryl Murphy, with Middlesbrough's recently rebuffed offer of around £4 million reported again by some media sources today. Last summer, Town turned down a £7 million offer for McGoldrick from Leicester City.

Elsewhere, former Town goalkeeper-coach James Hollman, 37, has joined Motherwell in a similar role.

I point that keeps cropping up that the club apparently lack ambition why do people always equate spend loads of money = ambition if that's the case JM,RK,PJ. Had loads of ambition where did that get us ?

To the idiots slagging off Derby just stop and think what team you would rather have to start the season. A Team going into the season with genuine promotion credentials or our bunch who our wonderful manager reckons is almost complete. Still the corporate Evans PLC will be happy, that's 8 mill for Mings, 4 mill for McGoldrick and 2.5 mill for Murphy. 14.5 mill in their back pocket because we must not spend any due to FFP. You couldn't make it up

Sensible post essex57,perhaps you are on the wrong site?

If the money goes in Evans' back pocket why did he not take the £8m for McG last year?

Eayway. Think you'll find ur the one making it up. Where uget 4m for mcgoldrick, 2.5m for Murphy. Join the rest of the negative comments only brigade. And no, I'm not pretending Im totally happy but u have to trust mm, who see happy with the squad he has already. If he's wrong then either he'll have to spend some money later or he'll prob pay with his job. But for now I' all support him and the team instead of just criticising everything they do

1 year left on his contract
We should either cash in now or sign him on a longer term deal - either way McGoldrick wins I guess.
He's 27, iniury prone, but he's class
we've just lost the third best footballer in the club - losing the best would be silly (bishop 2nd)
Give him a new contract

Same tosh as last year. Painc before the start of the season. The monkies climbed pretty high up the tree last year.

Again whinging about stuff that has happened yet. Bitch about it when and if we sell him until then lighten up, its summer.

Despite the fine "up and at 'em" rhetoric from Mick about Didz next season, both he and McGoldrick knew this was in the works. Why else stock up on strikers? Mick was just not-so-subtly reminding the market of Didz' value to ITFC.

Sorry lightweight, injury prone and no heart for the Town, pocket the cash and if we can re-invest. Some of you on here don't seem to grasp the financial situation we are in!

I think we will be fine without him, onwards and upwards with MM's blue and white army!!!

Paper talk. He will play behind front two in home games

Chris Martin is being linked with £7m move to either West Ham, Swansea, Newcastle or Southampton. Pretty sure this would be why Derby may get associated with Strikers at the moment.

McGoldrick can go to Derby. He won't stay fit and won't get in their currentgfirst team. But guess he's happy to be a squad player on a hefty pay packet back in his beloved Midlands. Let him go.

I agree with your sentiment essex57 but I don't equate JIm Magilton's time as manager with one of excess spending

Jeez, I can't wait for a fresh news item. 100+ comments for idle tabloid gossip...

My ha'pennorth: David McGoldrick is worth more to us as a player, not a wad of cash. Yes, he could walk away for nothing next season - he also arrived for nothing. All our stand out performers did - why have so many forgotten that..?!

As for Ipswich's general transfer policy, I think it's fantastic! It's far more satisfying finding bargains and blooding youngsters than splurging money on a 'name'. It's done us ok thus far. We've exchanged Mings for two equally talented players; the rest of the squad is a year tougher and more experienced...

George Burley said himself when we had all this hullaballoo last year: don't underestimate cohesion and continuity. People think we should be like Derby? Some people just don't learn...

We'll be fine lads. Kick back and enjoy the summer!
