Derby Linked With McGoldrick Move
Wednesday, 8th Jul 2015 10:01

Derby County are reportedly showing interest in Town striker David McGoldrick.

According to The Sun, the Rams are keen on adding the 27-year-old to their striking options and the frontman is claimed to be “open” to the potential switch.

McGoldrick, who was born in Nottingham and has previously represented both Notts County and Nottingham Forest, has a year left on his Town contract.

Speaking last week manager Mick McCarthy said that the Ireland international is determined to make a positive start to Town’s new season having missed most of the final months of 2014/15 due to a troublesome thigh injury.

“It is a big season for him and he knows that,” he said. “We spoke about it at the end of the season and he wants to come back flying.

“He’s having a couple of extra weeks off because he was involved with the Republic of Ireland.

“Hopefully, if he stays injury free, his season will be great, not a problem at all. He’s a top player.”

McGoldrick’s family moved back to the East Midlands last season having been unable to settle in Suffolk but this is not uncommon in football and the striker is understood to be happy at the club.

At the end of last season McCarthy said that the striker was “not looking to move” and issued a hands-off warning on both McGoldrick and Daryl Murphy, with Middlesbrough's recently rebuffed offer of around £4 million reported again by some media sources today. Last summer, Town turned down a £7 million offer for McGoldrick from Leicester City.

Elsewhere, former Town goalkeeper-coach James Hollman, 37, has joined Motherwell in a similar role.

Derby also have no Debt commuterblue.
I agree that Didz could be the answer to our 'Creative Midfielder' problem but also remember that during the early part of last season he cost us points due to being selfish. He appeared to be envious of Murphys purple patch and was shooting from ludicrous positions rather than passing to better placed teammates.
£5m minimum but finding a replacement would be tough. Williams as some are suggesting? Seems injury prone.
I'm sure Mick will pull a Rabbit out of the hat though.

Putting last season aside i really think McGoldrick will be the difference maker this season, the lad must be itching to play football and prove the doubters wrong and i think it would be a BIG mistake if he is sold to a promotion rival.

That being said who can blame the lad if he wants to be nearer to his family.

yes dawoolah, but to be fair to McG most of his goals in 2013/14 came from ludicrous positions - he didn't score many tap ins. Also Murphy was often too selfish last season.

To be fair I rather him go for a decent wedge, keep murphy and invest in a striker theres plenty about although I think didsy is great he has been injry prone over last 18 month, if we can get somewhere around 5 mill, then with 1 year left on his contract it has to be thought about, and he can settle with his family everyone wins and bonus derby get fined for breach of FFP rules.

or we have one other option which could be said murphy to boro for 4.5 - 5 mill and give a new contract to didzy and sign a new striker with it.

Surco, where did you hear said Murph info?

To me MCG is our creative spark, I said it numerous times last year so much of our good play goes through him, whenever you watch Town, if you see a really good move its always MCG, pass and move then pas again ping, ping, ping blam goal a la Boro last year with MCG right at the hear of it

So despite Mcgoldrick being our most talented and creative player some people are happy to see him go because he's had some injuries. Who do you think your gonna get to replace him? Why do you think someone like derby who are also looking for promotion want him?
You disgust me

but with his family gone would we keep didsy next season cause if we don't get a contract signed we get nothing

He is Scholes - he should not be constrained by a single position, but he should operate more in the midfield, moving up whenever it works. We just signed Pitman; we have Sears and Murphy up front. If he does go, we need to fill the midfield with someone who can pass through balls like him. Whatever - he will go if he wants to, but if he stays, I want to see him in a more advanced mf role, replacing Bru, with Bishop and Skuse behind him and Maitland-Niles and Fraser on the wings.

Parr Smith Berra Chambo (there's no point wishing for a real RB)
Skuse
Fraser Bishop Maitland Niles (our chances of midfield goals looks tastier this year doesn't it?)
McGoldrick
Murphy

Or, utiliza one winger in Fraser, and a false winger on the other side, in Sears, with McG operating just behind)

Parr Smith Berra Chambo
Skuse
Bishop
Fraser McGoldrick Sears
Murphy

Derby fans don't seem keen on this!! Here's a post on the local paper site...."the only reason we would want this tossa is to keep Sammon company in the useless strikers department". Classic

surco didn't get his information about murphy newhere. hes just inventing it. just as raycrafordswig must be too. why would Middlesboro offer £4m when they've already had an offer of £4.5m rejected? unless of course, sky are just recapping stories from 2 weeks ago, which I doubt.

as for mcgoldrick. at his best he is clearly a talented player. but his record at every club hes been at is that he starts well but doesn't carry it on. of course the injury picked up season before last has severely hindered him, but im not sure we'll see the best of him again. and I also think that some of his loss of form has been down to attitude. maybe that's down to the fact that his family have moved back to the midlands and thus I can see why he may be interested in moving on now. if that is the case I think that should an offer come in we should accept it, as having an unhappy player at the club is no good for anyone.

If the price is right sell him.
now murphy needs keeping hold of.
dose not seem to have his heart here anyway.

Maybe there is some truth in the Le Fondre link then. A potential replacement?

Unfortunately it's on sky that Middlesbrough have bid for Murphy along with another unnamed club? I love the summer rumour mill!

raycrawfordswig added 15:44 - Jul 8
blues1 I didn't invent story was on sky news today.I thought same as you why bid 4.5 mill then 4 mill weeks later.

topguy added 15:47 - Jul 8
are they rumour of is there truth in it is so I say lets be brave let them both go now for 8 - 10 mill as if we don't go up and we cannot guarantee it we could get nothing for em bite the bullet buy tom bradshaw from Walsall 21 and andre grey from Brentford both would be ok wages wise and at 21 and 24 age wise for about 5 mill would leave 3 mill profit wheres the down side.

topguy added 15:55 - Jul 8
players are in demand when they are hot give em a few months then they might not be worth a bean I say bite the bullet then that would give us money to invest on new young talent with the next few season like southamton bornemouth and burnley did.

I would rather sell any other player than McG. Please, please, please Mr Evans, do not sell him.
1

topguy added 16:50 - Jul 8
Id love to keep him but with one year left can we 4 mill now is better than nothing when his contract runs out best thing offer a new contract if he accepts fine if he don't sell then we know he don't want to be here sell and move on than wait till his contract runs out and get nothing that would hurt.

Firstly, this hasn't actually happened yet. It's just a story in the Sun. Secondly, we need to keep him. A fit Didz will be huge for us.
