Town Close to Signing Danish Left-Back Thursday, 30th Jul 2015 22:57
Town are close to completing the signing of Danish international left-back Jonas Knudsen, who is currently with Superliga club Esbjerg fB, his hometown side.
We understand that members of the Town management have travelled to Denmark to watch Knudsen in action on a number of occasions in the last few weeks and were evidently impressed.
Despite his youth, 6ft 1in tall Knudsen has already made 150 senior domestic starts and six sub appearances, scoring 16 goals and has won two full Danish caps. He recently played at the European U21 Championships in the Czech Republic and has also won caps at U18, U19 and U20 levels.
TWTD understands that the clubs are close to completing the deal and the move could be confirmed before the weekend, while Danish newspaper Ekstrabladet is also reporting that a fee is agreed and the details of the switch aren't far off being finalised.
Trialist Giles Coke has impressed since joining the club at the end of last week and may well have done enough to be offered a contract.
Blues boss McCarthy is also currently assessing whether to offer terms to Guinean international Larsen Touré and midfielder Darren Ambrose.
Meanwhile, Town's U18s lost 5-0 to Manchester United in their opening game at a pre-season tournament at Tottenham's training ground. The hosts beat Liverpool 5-2 in tonight's other match.
Elsewhere, Sunderland are reported to have accepted an offer from Crystal Palace for ex-Blues striker Connor Wickham. The fee is said to be an initial £6 million rising to £9.5 million after top-up clauses.
If those figures are correct Town won't immediately receive anything from the sell-on clause - an undisclosed percentage of any profit - included in the 2011 deal which saw the 22-year-old join the Black Cats.
Wickham moved for an initial £8.1 million with a number of appearance milestones understood to have been triggered during his time on Wearside.

Interesting. I'd never heard of Aaron Cresswell or Tyrone Mings at the time so let's hope he's another gem. I'd love to know who the other 2 players are that are close to signing.
Im happy with this get byrne as RB then can play Bk four of Byrne, Chambers, Berra, Knudsen. now that sounds better then an CM to feed the forwards then team complete and a good def this season.
Market value is £525k for Jonas Knudsen, so hopefully our bid is under £750k maximum...could turn out to be good business looking at his career thus far!
Am I correct in thinking this is the first "signing" under the new management structure that's been "let out of the bag" before the deal is complete?!.. Probably due to a Danish reporter speculating, if true - let's hope it doesn't scupper the deal for us.
Not going to pretend I have any idea about this guy but despite being unknown he seems like he has a good pedigree and potential. Very excited by this! Always good to pick up a gem from abroad, hopefully cheaper than English prices too!
Fills a need and with our track record for full back he'll be worth £20 million in a few years time. In all seriousness, should he sign he will add competition to a position that is lacking and welcome addition.
Would be a brilliant signing!!! Rather than spending deep into the millions that's we got for mings( which I think we got WAY more than he is worth) is a good sign. He. Looks more attacking than we have had for a while and isn't going to cost that much either....... I have a good friend who is a hearts season ticket holder and he things that McGhee will eventually be the Scottish captain and will be better than Berra (only reason being is that he had got loads of pace for a defender)...............Bart in goal... Knudsen Berra chambers parr....skuse frazer mainland-miles and mcgoldrick behind pitman and muprhy.......... That is without bishop bru tabb henshall connoly sears smith gerken Stewart and the other additions before brentfotd away!!!! I'm really hopefully or us this year aslong as we have a proper solid defence. Everything in midfield and upfront especially is buzzing. I'm predicting Sears Murphy mcgoldrick and murphy to get 60 heals plus between then this year. COME ON YOU BLUES!!!! ITFCâš½ï¸âš½ï¸âš½ï¸âš½ï¸âš½ï¸âš½ï¸âš½ï¸
