Quiet Final Day Expected at Town
Tuesday, 1st Sep 2015 10:09

The final day of the transfer window is expected to pass very quietly at Portman Road with no further signings anticipated before today’s 6pm deadline.

Speaking on Friday manager Mick McCarthy said there was one deal still to be done and the signing of Australian winger Tommy Oar on a free transfer was confirmed on Saturday.

The Town boss added that some of his fringe players - such as Michael Crowe, Myles Kenlock, Josh Yorwerth, Josh Emmanuel or Kyle Hammond - could go out on loan but there would be no rush to do deals of that type with Football League and Vanarama National League clubs able to sign players on an emergency loan basis from next week.

McCarthy also revealed that winger Alex Henshall is available for transfer having failed to break back into the first-team squad this season.

“Alex is available for transfer, he’s certainly not going to get in in front of the other lads and I think it’s time he moved on, and I’ve told him that,” he said, speaking to Ipswich Player.

Having made 12 loan or permanent additions during the transfer window - Jonas Knudsen, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Brett Pitman, James Alabi, Ryan Fraser, Giles Coke, Piotr Malarczyk, Jonathan Douglas, Josh Yorwerth, Larsen Touré, Jonathan Henly and Oar - McCarthy also said he was unlikely to look at adding loan players to his squad once the emergency provision is available.

“I doubt very much I’ll be entering into that, not when I get Christophe, Murph, Bish, Kevin Bru and Jonny Parr back to go with the ones that we’ve got,” he said. “I’ll probably have a squad of 23. I won’t need anybody else.”

Meanwhile, tickets for the Capital One Cup tie at Manchester United on Wednesday 23rd September went on sale to Gold members this morning at 9am. Full priority and pricing can be found here.

In January we were told it would be quiet and then pulled Williams and Fryers out of a hat

No surprise as clearly we have a big enough squad. Whether we have a good enough keeper, a natural right back or that quality central midfielder who creates and scores goals remains to be seen though!

I'd love to see us get involved and get Johnny Williams in before he goes to another championship club ........ COME ON YOU BLUES

Still think we should have signed a new keeper. Hope this doesn't cost us over the season. However we have generally done very good business.

Johnny Williams was the quality we lack in midfield but oh so injury prone, some players are like that or just unlucky I guess!

I'd like to have seen a keeper come in to push Bart & Gerks, I think it's a weak spot for us and could cause us to miss out on the top two spot. Other than that we need to keep our players as injury free as possible and we should have a great season. COYB!!!

The GK is the only position that slightly worries me now, though I can't see Mick bringing another keeper in & I certainly don't want to see anymore loanees..I think Right back can be covered by Chambers/Parr/Emanuel..the rest of the squad (when all fit) looks as good as it's done since the Burley days.

Shame we've got a 2 week break just as things were getting started.

GK and proven attacking/goal scoring midfielder would be good and then I'd be happy.
I wonder how much of the £8M of Mings money we have spent on transfers? (not talking about on wages, agents fees or signing on fees).

Keeper situation will let us down I'm afraid, if they don't pull their socks up

We've got a lot of players in recently, I'd prefer us to get no more - as to not risk the team spirit we have

While it is obviously important for "fringe" players to go out and get playing experience, it does seem that few of those who do this ever come back to establish themselves in the first team. Hewitt is one that springs to mind, but there are plenty of others. Or am I imagining this? Hope Matt Clarke, for example, will not disappear. He seems like a good prospect.

I'm surprised we haven't gone for Jonny Williams again. Knowing our luck this will be the year he stays fully fit all season and has a blinder at Forest. I still don't think we have a lot of creativity in the middle other than when McGoldrick drops deep. Can't complain with the squad we have though, very productive summer for us.

Why on earth does everyone keep banging on about the keepers? Bart has been exceptional this season one error aside, and Gerks has by and large played well in his absence, goals were NOT his fault at the weekend. Ridiculous statements by some yet again.

Significantly, we have dropped points in the two games Berra has missed. The backline looked very flat at times on Saturday. I'm sure the new signings will come good and provide cover but atm we are exposed if one of the CBs gets injured. I think a one month loan of an experienced CB might have been wise.

Anderson ,Henshall and Stewart would have to go down as poor signings then really , took up wages that could have been spent on others last season - no comparison to what MM has brought in this season on the wings this year .
Still very unconvinced with keepers and back four for serious promotion push , hope i am wrong but only 5 teams in league at present have let in more goals than us and the goals we conceded are not worldies just poor defending or long ball over top

Surco72 I agree on Henshall and Stewart, but Anderson played his part and was not a poor signing in the short term.
I am hopeful that Mick can mould his defense now he has the players.
Back five of:
Balakowski
Knudsen, Berra, Chambers, Malarczyk
