McCarthy Wishing Mings Well After Injury Blow
Friday, 11th Sep 2015 06:00

Town boss Mick McCarthy says he sent former Blue Tyrone Mings his best wishes after the left-back suffered a season-ending knee injury on his Premier League debut with new club AFC Bournemouth.

The 22-year-old, who left the Blues for the Cherries in an £8 million deal in the summer, has been ruled out for nine to 12 months after tearing anterior and medial ligaments during Bournemouth’s 1-1 draw with Leicester just prior to the international break.

The former Chippenham Town man underwent surgery yesterday, which he revealed on Twitter went well.

“I’ve been in contact with him via text and wished him all the best, he’ll get the best treatment,” McCarthy said.

“It’s just sad when you go to a new club, it’s devastating if you get injured and you’re out. I remember going to Celtic and I was out for about 12 weeks and people start thinking whether you’ve actually signed.

“He could be out for nine to 12 months but he’ll get the best treatment and hopefully, please God, he heals quickly and he gets back playing.”

He added: “It’s a matter of having to get your head around it. I always found him a very sensible, bright young fella.

“There’s nothing he can do about it, he might as well accept it and get on with the fact that he’s going to have his operation and recover. And I’m sure he’s got a good manager there in Eddie Howe and he’ll look after him.”

Horrible bit of bad luck for him, I know he's not our player any more but it's easy to feel sympathy for Tyrone as he's such a top bloke. At least with his seemingly unshakable confidence he's got a great chance of coming back from this quickly. Would be a real waste if this sets his career back.

Nine to twelve months! That's a lifetime to a young lad. Still, it would have been a career-ending injury once upon a time. Hope the rehab goes well for him.
