Town on CBBC
Friday, 18th Mar 2016 09:25

CBBC programme All Over the Workplace recently spent three days at Town as two youngsters were given an insight into the world of professional football.

Chitua and Freya, who are both with academies, were followed by the show’s cameras as Mick McCarthy outlined to them what’s required to make it as a player as well as giving budding boss Chitua tips on what you need to become a manager.

They trained with U21s boss Mark Kennedy, were given tips by skipper Luke Chambers, Cole Skuse and Giles Coke and warmed up with the first team.

Andy Liddell, Town’s fitness coach, spoke to them about nutrition, while former Blues midfielder and one-time Northern Ireland boss Bryan Hamilton gave Chitua, who managed a side including Freya during a game at Portman Road, the benefit of his years in football.

“We are delighted with the programme and the access and help we got from Ipswich was fantastic,” said All Over the Workplace producer, Drew Ferguson.

The show, which is presented by Alex Riley and was broadcast on CBBC last week, can be found on the BBC iPlayer here.

I sincerely hope they were not given coaching and tactical advice by McCarthy.

Well done to all at ITFC who took part in that film, well worth a watch.

I'm sure a lot of people won't bother because it's from CBBC, but I enjoyed it. Lots of good cameos from ITFC players and staff.

Anyone remember Bobby Robson and his coaches on TV in the late 70's/early 80's highlighting the YTS scheme at Town? Would love to see that again.

Mick McCarthy's smile is probably the scariest thing I've ever seen outside of a horror flick. Also they neglected to mention the UEFA Cup win and apparently we're called Ipswich FC. Apart from that it was entertaining to watch and gave some insight to what a youngster joining the academy will experience

I'll correct myself. They mentioned the UEFA Cup before others. They also used Ipswich Town a few times before the one slip with Ipswich FC. Nothing too serious :)

I did notice when they went over tactics they put a tall center forward against Jay Tabb in central defense. I think he got that one right!

My thanks to all those who voted me down for my observation. All opinions welcome but surely none of you can seriously contend that McCarthy is a top coach...........can you?
