Hyam Contract Talks Break Down
Saturday, 16th Apr 2016 20:03

TWTD understands that talks with midfielder Luke Hyam regarding his new Town contract have broken down.

Hyam’s current terms have an option for a further season after the current one, which manager Mick McCarthy reiterated that Town will be exercising on Thursday when he said new contracts for Hyam and Tommy Smith - who has also had an option for anorher year taken up - would be looked at in the summer.

The Blues previously began talks regarding a longer-term deal with the midfielder’s representatives in February but after several weeks of discussions the two sides reached an impasse having been unable to agree the terms of a new contract.

The 24-year-old is understood to be keen to stay with his hometown club, having come through the Blues academy before making his senior debut at Middlesbrough on the opening day of the 2010/11 campaign.

Hyam, who missed today's draw at Sheffield Wednesday as he was suspended following last week's red card against Brentford, has now made 110 starts and 16 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring three goals.

The former Northgate High School pupil spent time on loan at Rotherham earlier in the season, while other Championship clubs are believed to have shown interest in the past.

Yeeeeeess, sorry Luke, but you're just simply not good enough. All the best

How bizarre. Whatever the situation, it doesn't reflect particularly well on anyone concerned.

A decent shot for anyone who just needs a midfielder to pass sideways and backwards.

Would be no great loss, to be honest.

Bye. Obviously thinks the club are going to bend over backwards to satisfy his wage demands.

Let him go. Squad player at best imho

Bru and Skuse in the middle for me

Can't see a Town side including Hyam being promoted
Mostly injured, but brings some energy to the side.
Better than Bru

now lets read all the morons post how he is rubbish and we don't need him yet when he plays you are all proud to say he is one of our own... a good young player who will have a good career in football.

We sing "he's one of our own" as we have no other positives to sing about him.
Unless we make make a new song (to the tune of 'Hot Legs' by Rod Stewart).
Break Legs, Leaving his mark
Break Legs, Keeps his studs sharp
Break Legs, Can't keep the ball to himself
I love you Hyam
Break Legs, he's wearing you out
Break Legs, you can scream and shout
Break Legs, looks like he's still in school
I love you Hyam

But in all seriousness, a 16 year-old in 45 minutes on his debut has just equalled Hyam's goal tally in each of the last 3 seasons. We have Bru who is better. Time to bring through Dozzell. Thanks Luke, but time to move on. He's just not good enough.

I was always a fan of Hyam, but I do think it would be best for all parties if he moved on in the summer. We have more than enough defensive midfielders and for me at least two of Skuse, Hyam, Douglas or Coke need to go.

Bang average I'm afraid.

Perspective people. We don't know what wages he's on now and what he's asking for. He can do a job as a squad player and may be needed when we need to tie down another team's midfield. No point comparing him with Bru or Dozzell, he's a ball-winning midfielder not a creative one. Decent age to be a back-up to Skuse.

Hahahaha great news. Sorry Luke, but with your footballing ability (or lack of it) you should be snapping our hand off for a 2 year deal. In fact he should be taking a 2 year deal with any Championship club. Tommy Smith deserves an improved contract though. Been better than Berra this season in my opinion.

This lad is awful!! And yes he is a local fella which makes that all the harder to admit!! If you honestly think that he is good enough to take us where we want to go then I'm sorry but you are deluded!! It would be lovely if he was but he is miles off!! Got to put sentiment aside and start thinking straight.

Seems an odd time for his advisors to be playing hard ball on his contract ...... he's just cost us a match by stupidly getting sent off after not featuring for most of the season ..... hardly arguing from a position of strength I would have thought.

Terrible timing by his agent. Just as fresh young talent is blooded into the first team and completes more passes forward than Hyam ever did.

I think this lad has had one too many blows to the head thinking he's a much better player worth a lot more money that he actually is.....next.

So are we in talks now or are we going to wait in the summer?

"TWTD understands that talks with midfielder Luke Hyam regarding his new Town contract have broken down."

"Mick McCarthy reiterated that Town will be exercising on Thursday when he said new contracts for Hyam... would be looked at in the summer."

There's no point condemning either the club or player regarding this; we don't know the ins and outs. I'd be happy to see him sign but I know I'm very much in the minority on that one.

One of 3 heaps of stodge that we need to dispose of so we can start passing the ball forwards again : shame as it would be good to see a local boy succeed, but he's been in the team for years now and still plays the game like he was 16. I doubt another club at this level would want him, or maybe even anyone in League One or Two. Non-league beckons.

Probably time to move on, did well when first introduced by the Dark Lord but has never really progressed, possibly because he seems incapable of controlling the ball with his feet, preferring to use his shins instead.

pointofblue added 22:25 - Apr 16
Daleyitfc - Rotherham were happy enough with him; they're at our level.

mispeltyouth - I don't think it's helped having Skuse here as he plays a similar role to Hyam. At first we tried to get Hyam to play a different role then accepted boring the fans to death to get both of them in the team.

For me he can go along with Douglas, Coke, Tabb, Toure, Knudsen, Malarcyk, Varney, Foley, if you want to get out this league they just arent good enough.
Need to build the team around Bishop and Dozzell and bring the likes of Zak Clough and Alex Pritchard into the club.

If we want to be in the top half next season, we need players like Hyam. I don't know how we would play without our usual 3 defensive midfielders together in the centre. If we get Karl Henry in I suppose he'd make a decent replacement.
