McCarthy: Knudsen Has Got Better and Better
Tuesday, 26th Apr 2016 08:58

Town boss Mick McCarthy says left-back Jonas Knudsen has got better and better as the season has progressed and was delighted to see him net his first Town goal late in last week’s 1-1 draw with Fulham.

“I was delighted considering the circumstances, it was great,” he said of the Danish international. “Jonas has had a really good season.

“Jonas has been a really good signing. Considering we took £8 million in [for Tyrone Mings from AFC Bournemouth] and signed him for £300,000 [from Esbjerg Fb] that’s a pretty good deal that for me.

“He’s got better and better, he’s learning about the league, he’s a great character, a great pro.

“He has been getting closer [to a goal] and it’s been a good first season for him. He’ll get better now.

“It’s no surprise to me [that he’s done well] because of his personality. He’s a tough nut, he’s a winner, he competes like that in training. He’s great.”

Knudsen has made 42 starts for the Blues this season and was recently called into the full Danish squad for the first time since his move to England but didn't add to his two previous caps.

Skuse revealed both Watford and Derby were chasing him last season. Mick loves him and other clubs have expressed an interest.

Currie10 - Agreed, i dont hate Skuse at all and I think he should always be in our side. He cant create not will he score much be he works across the midfield puts in some great tackles and breaks up the play, and he does it well! The problem is and what people dont like is when he is paired with Douglas or Hyam who also cant create or score enough.

Like you say, pair him with a great creative midfielder (bishop if fit) and it will be great!

Currie, cheers for the messages, you make some interesting points. I'm just not convinced about Skuse but I'm more than happy to be proven wrong. If he's still here next season hopefully he'll do the business for us. My biggest gripe is aimed at the lack of goals and imagination of our midfield in general. Somebody in that midfield needs to step up next season if not it needs to be strengthened. I'm excited about Dozzell and Bishop but they are young and need some support from the senior players. I don't mind Bru but he can be hot and cold, although to be fair to him, he's not been given a consistent run by Mick. That said, I'll certainly credit Mick with getting Bru in so cheap. Credit where credit is due.
I do question the following though, do you think Skuse would be a regular starter in any of the promotion chasing teams this season, i.e. Burnely, Boro and Brighton? I don't think he would. Just my opinion. I've said before I think he's neat and tidy. He's not our worst player by any means. But I just don't think he's good enough to get us up. He's not as good as Grant Deadbitter. Not a great fan of Deadbitter but we all have to admit, he's not doing too bad this season is he! Although he hardly pulled up any trees while at the Town!
Cheers Currie, enjoy the exchange of views.
And I'm certainly not going to try and convert you on JET, I can see that would be a bridge too far! I know when I'm beaten! :-)

Agreed Presba. You need a grinder in midfield who can break up play to win back the ball and to then give it to those who can make something happen. As you say, we just don't need 2 or 3 grinders in the centre of the park as that's just not pretty on the eye!
