McCarthy: Knudsen Has Got Better and Better
Tuesday, 26th Apr 2016 08:58

Town boss Mick McCarthy says left-back Jonas Knudsen has got better and better as the season has progressed and was delighted to see him net his first Town goal late in last week’s 1-1 draw with Fulham.

“I was delighted considering the circumstances, it was great,” he said of the Danish international. “Jonas has had a really good season.

“Jonas has been a really good signing. Considering we took £8 million in [for Tyrone Mings from AFC Bournemouth] and signed him for £300,000 [from Esbjerg Fb] that’s a pretty good deal that for me.

“He’s got better and better, he’s learning about the league, he’s a great character, a great pro.

“He has been getting closer [to a goal] and it’s been a good first season for him. He’ll get better now.

“It’s no surprise to me [that he’s done well] because of his personality. He’s a tough nut, he’s a winner, he competes like that in training. He’s great.”

Knudsen has made 42 starts for the Blues this season and was recently called into the full Danish squad for the first time since his move to England but didn't add to his two previous caps.

My point is simply I don't see us going forwards under Mick. The video was just for a bit of fun out of the archive. And I remember the game well, I was gutted given Bobby was the manager at the time!
I simply don't see us getting promoted with midfield players like Skuse who do little to affect the game. I want to be proven wrong, but I think the experiment with Mick has run its course. However, I'm more than happy to be proven wrong. And he wasn't a million miles from proving that last season. Credit where credit is due. But this season, apart from early on and Fraser, has been drab!
Nonetheless, if Skuse hits a 90th minute winner in the Play Off final next year I'll post a video on here of me eating my hat lol! Cheers :-)

jet was no better than amn, exciting at times, but nowhere near the consistency needed, he's a bottom championship/top league one player at the moment. skuse isn't exciting, but you need that type of player, every good team has at least one or two of them, depending on their formation.
as for knudsen, improving all the time, in a difficult first season, he's done well

Oh here we go JET.

No Skuse and others cannot do that, but they don't go to Motion nightclub until 7am when Bristol City are playing Luton in the fa cup with a lunchtime kick off the Sunday and they don't invite random people off social media to have training with them.

I do not remotely miss " Jet " overpaid and zero workrate. Cannot rely on players like that, Mick or no Mick.

Remind me what JET has done this season?

I know we have been lucky with our last 2 left backs and its fair to say i wasn't too impressed with Mings most of the time but all the ingredients were there for him to be a good player. With Knudsen, i just don't see it!! He is always out of position, gives the ball away 9 times out of 10 and his crossing is awful. I also don't see the use for his long throw either and he foul throws everytime he takes a short throw. In my opinion we should have never let Parr go baring in mind he can play in a number of positions. I know we won't cut our loses with him and Mick has he favours in the back four so he will be there next season. I was impressed with the lad Kenlock in a league cup game so was hoping he would get a chance to impress but obviously not.

agreed positivity he was inconsistent and frustrating. skuse wasn't even a top league one player though. JET is the sort of player that the right manager could work wonders with. but his wages were on high side so i can certainly see the argument for letting him go. all i know is if we were trailing norwich 1 nil at carrot road i'd rather send on JET than the likes of Varney and Sammon. Who ya gonna call, JET Busters!
But agree he was an expensive luxury, but he could be an exciting one at that! Counago could be similar in some ways that he could either be brilliant or ineffective. But of course Counago will always be remembered far more keenly by Town fans and deservedly so. If money wasn't so tight JET might of been a luxury we could afford. But sadly us town fans have been starved of luxury for too long now! :-(

and agreed JET hasn't been up to much this season, but he's still scored 5 times as many goals as exSkuse has this season! How many has our entire midfield scored this season in fact? our goal difference is so bad because we play negative football and there is so little spark the way mick sets them out. surely we can agree on that?

plenty of managers have tried and failed with jet, i think he's destined to be a poundland balotelli! we've seen a bit of luxury with far better consistency (if not robustness) over the past couple of seasons with williams, fraser, bishop etc, just hope mick can find another one who's not so easily broken!

JET scored 5 goals in 16 games for QPR this season, that's a whisker away from 1 in 3. How many Town players have managed that same goals to game ratio this season? Has even Murphy managed that this season? He's Has Varney? I think Murphy has scored about 6 or 7 this season and that's in a lot more games than JET played for QPR too. I rest my case.

I have to confess, I'd certainly take Williams over JET. And i like the Poundland Balotelli comment too, very good lol! I'll give you that one :-)
Out of curiosity, are you a Skuse and Mick fan Positivity? Are we singing off a different Hymn Sheet on that front?
Hope you don't mind me asking. Cheers.

skuse isn't there primarily to score goals, that's like saying sammon(6 goals) is a better player than kante! there hasn't been enough creativity, but when you're without your 3 most creative players for most of the season, that's inevitably going to happen. would leicester have won the title with okazaki, mahrez & fuchs out for that long?

i am a skuse fan, i don't think he should be played in a 4-4-2 alongside hyam or douglas though. as for mick, i think he's done a great job on a micro-budget , last season's success story has given him license for me to have a less successful one this time (esp with all the injuries). for me the jury will be out october/novemberish next season, if we struggle and he can't get the best out of a fit bishop, mcgoldrick, dozzell etc, then we should look at changing. not before that

midastouch added 12:45 - Apr 26
not without mahrez, no chance.
and neither would we of won the league if ours had been fit, because mick would have probably only played 1 of them at a time as sadly that's his style! i reckon if mick mccarthy had of been in charge of england at italia 90 he would have left gascoigne on the bench and played peter reid instead lol!

Prebsa. Knudsen has been our best defender since the turn of the year. If he's caught out of position it's due to the fact he gets forward but then it's down to others to cover him. And the fact is that since the turn of the year we've only conceded 2 goals from his side of the pitch, and one of those was purely down to Berra cocking up.

midastouch added 12:50 - Apr 26
that's a fair and level headed view. i do think even mick's supporters are starting to run out of patience, the jury will definitely be out on him next season. if we get our best players fit and he gets them playing together nicely then he could still prove his doubters wrong. football is a fickle business after all lol! he is going to have to hit the ground running though because if he doesn't things could turn ugly i imagine.

I think he's been ok apart from the throw inns. I think next season will be critical and we will see whether he improves or not.

and looking on the bright side, if mick gets the chop we've always got terry to step into the fold ;-)

blues1 we have conceded alot more than 2 down his side of the pitch since the turn of the year fact! i can think of two in just one game!

midastouch added 13:19 - Apr 26
i think we can all agree on 1 thing (well maybe lol!), he's nowhere near as good as cresswell. moreover, we sold cresswell far too cheap to west ham for a player of that age! and i hope we've got sell-on clause in his contract as that could be worth a lot of money to us!

Kirbmeister added 13:28 - Apr 26
Mick's not getting the chop and Knudsen is an average player in an average team. We won't be able to attract anyone better. All clubs in the summer will be after better players and unfortunately we will be well down the list of the rich and ambitious.

i think fraser was as important to us as mahrez to them. i'm sure we'd have made the playoffs at least with him fit. to be fair to mick, mcgoldrick and fraser started several games that they were both fit for (it wasn't many!)

midastouch added 15:54 - Apr 26
Fraser was definiely our Mahrez. He was our spark. We looked far too predictable without him.

@midastouch : "when you sell a player for 8 million that cost just 10k and then replace them with a player worth just 300k, " Glass half empty approach of the Pretzels.

It was MM who originally bought Mings for £10K to replace Cresswell - and then got £8M plus a deal on Pitman and Fraser before buying Knudsen for £300K.

Do you give MM any credit at all in being able to find diamonds in the rough or are you again simply looking to have a pop without any reason??

prebsa added 16:35 - Apr 26
Bohslegend people are not having a pop because he is not a diamond in the rough. If someone bought him from us. And I'm not sure any promotion chasing team would it would be for no more than 500k!
