Robinson Signs New Deal Wednesday, 29th Jun 2016 15:07 Town have confirmed that U21s skipper Joe Robinson has signed the new contract he was offered at the end of last season. The 19-year-old defender, who ended 2015/16 on loan at Woking has put pen to paper on a one-year deal starting on July 1st. Speaking in April, manager Mick McCarthy said Haverhill-born Robinson, pictured above on the right with Michael Crowe, had impressed him with his attitude. “He’ll be the captain of the U21s team,” he said. “He’s a great example, he’s one of the youngest in his year and, I’ll be brutally honest, six months ago I’d be thinking I probably wouldn’t have kept him. “But he made such a rapid improvement and he’s such a great kid and such a great character and an example to others, I think based on that he’s worth that chance. “He’s a young one in his year and as we all know young scholars, young academics, young professional footballers, if they’re almost 10 or 11 months behind some of the others, their peers, they do take a bit of catching up. “He’s worth it on that basis and he’ll be in the U21s, if not we’ll loan him out somewhere because he did well at Woking. That’s his future at the club and hopefully he improves enough to get in the team.” Yesterday, boss McCarthy revealed that keeper Crowe, 20, has also agreed new terms with the Blues starting on July 1st, which he has now signed.
