No Fulham Move for Smith
Monday, 18th Jul 2016 16:54

TWTD understands that reports that Fulham are set to make a move for Blues centre-half Tommy Smith are wide of the mark.

Earlier today, The Sun claimed that the Cottagers are to make a £750,000 offer for the 26-year-old New Zealand international.

Smith is contracted to the Blues until June 2017, Town having exercised an option for a further year on the deal he signed in 2013 at the end of last season. Talks regarding a new deal were pencilled in for this summer.

Gonna say surely we won't sell Smith to another championship rival!!
We need to keep our best players & I think Smith is one of our best defenders with out a doubt.
Hope it is wide off the mark & just paper talk.

To repeat.....Tommy is the Best defender at the Club currently. Bonus that he is so Blue and that losing seems to actually bother him, so thank goodness if this is right.

Make him captain, put him on his side of the back 2 and use the ageing Berra as required or release.

FYI as much as i like Chambers has he improved us ? Made any impact at Right Back ? Think of how important Cresswell and Mings were, and how Knudsen looks like he will be next year at LB and ask yourself if Chambers is such a fantastic defender as to compensate for that lack of impact in the role ?

Keep Tommy, get rid of the dead wood, and let's take a mid table finish and a more youthful and progressive set up for a year if we have to.....i suspect we might do better than mid table anyway........Come on Mick i dare you !

Fulham have just loaned out a central defender to Oldham so would suggest they are in the market for a central defender.
These stories don't usually come about without some truth in them.
Let's just home they need a defender to replace the Loaned out person.
But I for one hope Smith STAYS!

Great news. There is no point signing Webster, a player with no championship experience, and then selling Smith who has loads and has been a consistent performer. Perhaps not outstanding, but more than very decent.

Probably better news than us signing someone - would have been a dreadful loss imo

So 3 pages of whinging over nothing then.

I for 1 like Tommy. His best years are right around the corner, sign him up

Smithy is one of those players I have sympathy for effectively being played out of position to accommodate Berra. He has worked hard to improve his right foot and whilst he makes the occasional mistake the fact he clearly cares goes a long way for me. At 26 he is one to keep with a view to developing a partnership with Webster. Berra should be the back up - he's a liability in the box always grabbing the opposition I'm surprised we haven't conceded more penalties.

Great news. He's one of our own!

Get him signed for another few years Mick. He's one of our best players.

All you knee jerkers can now elevate the affected limb and apply a bag of frozen peas to reduce the swelling. :-)

Just goes to show "Don't believe anything you hear and only half you see". TS is a left sided defender without any doubt, play him there and then criticise his capabilities, if you must. STAR man, one of our own, and when played alongside Webster then let's see whether he is the real deal. The only person who has any say in this scenario is MM. It's long overdue for him to play round pegs in round holes. I live in hope and hope I don't die in despair.

Please Mick... sell Chambo, sign Tommy on a long term deal and then make him captain. If you sell Tommy Smith I promise you he will be playing premier league football before Ipswich.

Good, I've said for a long time we should be building the defence around this guy.

It's a testament to him that he's the one who plays out of position, it's time to ship out Berra, started to look leggy last year and his defence plan is just to grab on. Move Smith to his correct side, then play Webster/Chambers with him.
