McCarthy Fuming After Town Concede Late Equaliser
Saturday, 23rd Jul 2016 20:01

Town boss Mick McCarthy was fuming after his side conceded a late equaliser during their 1-1 pre-season draw against Cambridge United at the Abbey Stadium.

Andre Dozzell put the Blues in front in the 83rd minute but U’s striker Joe Pigott netted with a minute of scheduled time remaining.

“Up until the last couple of minutes it was all right, but the last couple of minutes it was bullshit football that we’ve played and we’ve conceded a goal from it and I’m fuming,“ he seethed.

“Even if we didn’t score [the chances we’d had], we just slowed the game down, we weren’t playing forward.

“The lads who have gone on, I know it’s not easy going on for 25 minutes, but they put a lot on for 25 minutes as well. I’m not tolerating that, I’ve just told them that, that’s garbage that. To concede that goal is really piss poor.”

McCarthy was able to take some positives, including Dozzell’s well-taken goal and the form of some of the squad’s other younger players.

“He’s good, Andre. I thought James Blanchfield was good, Bish was good in the first half. I thought Tristan Nydam came on and did well, he’s just a kid, he’s great.

“There were some positives but I’m just fuming after that now. I don’t often lose the plot but I just have.

“And it’s a pre-season friendly. I say I’m not bothered about them, I don’t like them but I don’t like conceding goals at that time - Brentford away last year, Nottingham Forest away last year, Bolton last year. That’s bullshit, you don’t get anywhere if you do that. I’m not tolerating that.

“I’m not having it, it’s not good enough. It’s unforgivable for me. If he whacks one in from 30 yards, fine, but we had the ball and we gave it away. Not good enough.”

McCarthy was pleased to see David McGoldrick make his first appearance of pre-season after a hip flexor problem.

“It’s lovely to see him out there,” he added. “That’s his first 30 minutes in a long time, let’s hope we can keep him on the pitch.”

Dean Gerken and Adam McDonnell missed the game, while Luke Hyam came off with a knee injury.

“He’s just got a tight hamstring,” McCarthy said regarding Gerken. “Adam got kicked in a training session, he got raked down the back of his leg, he’s got scars down the back of his leg. He’s all right, it’s a kick but it’s a nasty one.”

“We all saw what Luke did. I don’t know what he’s done other than twisting his knee. We’ll have a look either tomorrow or Monday to find out.”

Regarding tabloid reports of interest in Tommy Smith and Daryl Murphy, he said: “Nobody’s made a phone call to me.”

The Town boss says there is no progress on incoming signings: “No, still working on it. Hopefully we’ll get something but at the moment nothing's happening.”

Just venting my view on some recent comments on this website with seem to contradict one other. What do us fans want? I'm guessing most will say promotion. I can see that it is highly unlikely this season with the current squad and financial backing. But please don't say is mick just going to rely on the kids. As you'd then be the first to moan if he was playing an average loanee ahead of them. This season let's bring these kids through regularly contributing with our current squad and build for the future.

I do not wish to see any player injured or out for the season and I know Hyam is a local lad and a good honest pro but he like Knudsen Smith Douglas Skuse etc are JUST NOT BLOODY GOOD ENOUGH. But that is what we have to live with shile Evans PLC own this once great club

I always try to support Mick but can't say I am looking forward to this season. We have been dominated by welter weight or light weight teams in pre-season. When we get a middle weight like Barnsley we are going to suffer. iMHO the youngsters are not ready, Dozzell aside.

Right now, I would take 14th-16th. Somewhere safe from the drop.

WELL - we've had a great pre season, signed some good players, played some strong opposition in friendlies. and had some excellent results. Not forgetting - scored lots of goals.

I know the above is all a load of sh*** - but thought I'd join the usual deluded ostrich's and post the same garbage as they do, for once - and see what it feels like to have your ears and eyes full of sand.

So, the doom brigade want MM to show passion yet moan when he does. They think MM has favourites but it's obvious that it's the moaners and detractors who have their own. What a bunch of ill informed, perpetually biased, non season ticket holder posters there are on here. So sad to hear these people denigrate a reasonably well run club. Thankfully, the vast majority of Town supporters are balanced people who keep their counsel and comment wisely on the basis of what they see and analyse rather than what their prejudiced brains spill out.

Bert you are just as entitled as anyone to voice an opinion here.

Pity those who mom the loudest and most often deny you that with insults.

Well done MM for giving the lads a blast for sloppy play.
We're getting close to games that will actually count and need to ensure that good habits and discipline are encouraged and reinforced.
Great to see some good young contenders coming through...well done Andre.

Soooo Mick is fuming is he?.... and for something refreshing at his own players collective incompetence is he?.... and using profane words in the process is he?
Welly welly welly well who would ever have thought THAT, particular the latter, of this sweet sweet & ever so respectful Yorkshire Man ... of Irish descent??? lol

Which brings me to today's classic 'Mick Our Swearing Dinosaur' oxymoron....

Footnote: A little 'Googling' reveals that Mick actually used this particular nasty swear -- a swear too familiar to us ITFC fans by now :-) -- in public, way before becoming an Ipswich Town manager. Here for example back in 2009 in relation to getting his very 1st home win as a Premier League manager after having failed to do so in his previous 21 attempts (in 3 seasons)!!!

Can't believe the comments about Hyam. A local lad who has always given his all for the club. Outrageous comments and I just hope Hyam realises that this negative sentiment is not shared by 99.9 percent of fans. I wish you all the best for a speedy recovery and keep your spirits up, you are loved by the fans.

On the team side of things I am going to make no comment as jas0999 has pretty much said everything I was going to say. Don't think we should be aiming for promotion this season and avoiding relegation may well prove to be a good result.

just because a player finds himself in a premiership team, doesn't mean their any good...

I keep saying it.......I honestly fear for us this coming season, the squad is just not good enough, the tacticts are the same, i think i could say now who our man of the season will be and thats Bart cos he is gonna be busy somewhat! just how he sleeps at night thinking of the ten in front of him must be daunting,
Are there any caves in North Norfolk that i can hide in? never mind the sofa!

Luke if you read this site totally igmore the negative crap that some people write on here ...your one of us and majority of itfc supporters would love you to have a great season this year, agree with itfc danc its not worth coming on here much any more as all rather repetitive/negative ,we all know the situation but lets get behind the lads as they give it 100 % and hope we get some additions to the squad but if not, we cheer and support those wearing the badge on matchday!

I'm also appalled at those outright vicious and utterly uncaring for an injured player "Anti-Luke Hyam" posts here on TWTD. But while I don't personally feel any uncontrollable urge :-) whatsoever to neither use nor subscribe to any of these "He as local lad.... and alas he comes with a 110% ITFC heart & dedication + We the fans LUV you! blah blah blah" just a-tiny-little-bit overhyped POVs and rants, i.e. meaning these ones which at least imho APPEARS to grant him a kind of flawed "right", By Default, to be included in Mick's Championship match-day squad (and since I don't give one iota about my personal up or down votes count here I'm man enough to also add that personally I'm not a biiiiiiiiig fan of Luke Hyam THE FOOTBALLER, as while I like his "Giving-it-all-determination" I also simply find him too limited skill wise but otherwise I mostly just find myself too often displeased with his well-documented & almost predictable RECURRING "affinity" for finding his way into the ref's little black book, in certain matchups time and time again! But obviously I wish him a speedy recovery and should Mick put him on the field in the future I certainly don't root for him (or anybody else wearing the shirt!) to have a BAD game either, as that's just not only immensely immature and silly but simply not becoming of ANY true fan of this club!) .......... but the one & only point needed to be absolutely hammered home in this and any similar injury-case here on TWTD is this: You simply NEVER EVER wish ill on anybody, even if don't rate them or like them, or whatever! Period!!!

Tractorboyjim, sorry I down marked you in error.Should be a plus.Very, very sorry.I agree with all you say.To wish a player whoever he is a long term injury is a total disgrace and should be banned from watching Town and posting on these pages.
Ok,there is nothing yet to shout about,BUT it is pre Season so give it a few games before we consider how we think the season will pan out.And once again sorry Tractorboyjim.

I'm on holiday in Skiathos at the moment and bumped into an EX England player staying at the same Hotel and we were having a long chat in the pool about MM and he rates him very highly indeed. At times I did wish to point out his errors of judgement but chose not to being a polite gentleman of a certain age,and I guess it was just the sun making him praise MM up.I did however point out without letting the cat out of the back too much just what Town fans think about his style of play, but then again he said a great deal of Managers play like that in the lower leagues just to get results,of which I replied"Well it don't happen at PR." It's an early post I know, but then again we are two hours on in Greece. If my Daughter reads this"don't forget to feed the fish".
It's early days yet lads so keep Ya chins up,we still have a few weeks to get it right.!!!
