Town Run Rule Over Belgian International Winger at Charlton
Tuesday, 26th Jul 2016 19:12 by Nick Ames

Town will run the rule over trialist Roland Lamah in tonight’s friendly at Charlton (kick-off 7.45pm).

The 28-year-old Belgian winger, who has won five caps for his country in addition to appearances at U19, U20 and U21 levels, is best known in the UK for spending a season and a half on loan at Swansea City between January 2013 and May 2014.

Free agent Lamah has spent the last two years in Hungary with Ferencváros, scoring 12 times in 54 league appearances and 21 goals in 83 games in all competitions.

The Ivory Coast-born left-sided wideman started his career with hometown club Karthala Abidjan before joining Belgian club CS Visé in 2001 and then Anderlecht - who he helped to the Belgian league title in 2006/07 - four years later before moving on to Dutch side Roda JC Kerkrade on loan for the 2007/08 season.

Between 2008 and 2011 the 5ft 11½ winger was with Le Mans in France, prior to a switch to Osasuna and it was during his spell with the Spanish club that he spent time on loan at Swansea, with whom he won a Capital One Cup winners medal having come on as a sub as the Swans beat Bradford 5-0 in the final.

Following his release by Osasuna he moved on to Ferencváros - with home he won the Hungarian FA and League Cups - in September 2014.

Since leaving the Budapest-based side he has been linked with Red Star Belgrade and clubs in Qatar, USA and China.

Lamah will start on the left wing for Town this evening, while David McGoldrick makes his first start of pre-season alongside Brett Pitman up front.

In perhaps the clearest indication of Mick McCarthy’s thinking ahead of the opening Championship fixture against Barnsley, last season’s first-choice back four all start while Andre Dozzell is included in midfield.

Adam Webster is among the substitutes while youngsters James Blanchfield and Shane McLoughlin are also included in the travelling party.

Neither Dean Gerken nor Adam McDonnell, who missed Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Cambridge with hamstring and leg problems respectively, were fit enough to make the trip. Luke Hyam also misses out, having twisted his knee at the Abbey Stadium.

Kevin Foley, who made eight appearances for Town last season after signing a short-term contract in January, is currently on trial with Charlton and is included in their starting XI.

Town: Bialkowski, Chambers (c), Berra, Smith, Knudsen, Douglas, Bru, Dozzell, Pitman, McGoldrick, Lamah. Subs: Crowe, Digby, Kenlock, Emmanuel, Malarczyk, Bishop, Skuse, Blanchfield, Sears, Murphy, McLoughlin, Webster, Stewart.

Played a lot of games in the top divisions in Belgium, France, Spain and a handful of games for Swansea. On FIFA 16 he's a silver 74 with a pace of 90. Not exactly the best scouting system but that's the best we'll get!! I imagine he'll be on goodish money so will have to perform tonight for Mick to be seriously interested.

More than happy if we sign him, could be a very good signing at this level IMO!

Well surprise surprise its the fantastic four across the back and Douglas next to Skuse in midfield in what is probably his clearest indication yet of how things are going to be this season.
He never intended to change it up this season at all. It will be the same old dodgy lopsided defence whilst we try and dig out a 0-0 at home to Burton Albion with 2 sitting midfielders one of whom is as useful as a chocolate fireguard.

Think you should read the line up again the beat. Can't see Skuse in the 11

Just realised its not Skuse its Bru next to Douglas. My point still stands tho, come a week on Saturday you just know theyll be together against Barnsley.

Maybe past his absolute prime .... as in FORMER Belgian International ..... but anyway having earlier seen him on several occasions at both Osasuna and Swansea -- and 12 goals in 22 in Hungarian top tier isn't too shabby it??? Ohhhh maybe it is, since now that I come to think of it old "flop" Priskin made 11 there in 20-some matches as recent as in 2014/2015 LOL! -- I choose to believe he still has enough pace and creativity in him to be a "concern" for opposing defenses ... at the Championship level. So I too wouldn't mind him being signed .... for approximately say 2 x six-packs + a bag of Doritos , Mr. Evans! :-)

Shhhhhhhh we should keep this fella under wraps till we make a decision to sign or not.
Or Plymouth or Luton 😬😬 (no disrespect). 😂 Will come in and offer a £5 and sign him up before us!! 😩😩😩

Don't hold your hopes up too much. We're competing with Red Star, Qatar, the US, and China. Mind you, why would anyone want to go to any of those places if they could come to Ipswich instead?

I mentioned in an earlier post re: squad numbers 'the new winger when he arrives'. As much as I would love to claim insider information, I knew nothing about Lamah before reading it here. Maybe I just have more faith than some. He looks like a perfect signing if he lives up to some of the hype I've read. Fingers crossed

Does that make Andros Townsend a former England player? Or Andy Carroll. I reckon spots are up for grabs after their showing on France and Ipswich is just the place to reignite his international ambitions.

He's 28, not old. Who knows, has season long contract written all over him mind

Seems to average a goal every 4 games or so, Not bad for a midfielder and something we've missed.
Worth a punt on a decent prospect.

People were excited about Toure last season! However, this guy has more of a reputation and is certainly worth a look. Hope he does well.

What frustrates me we have an owner whose incredibly rich but cares not to spend on investible, Sheffield Wed have offered £3m for Almen Abdi..... A player we should attempt to buy....they say he is a shrewd businessman but if he was my financial advisor he'd be sacked, surely anyone worth their salt can see spend £10m recoup over £120m in return, doesn't take a genius.

Yet another winger! Don't hold your breath people, been waiting for quite some time under McCarthy's tenure!
