Town Launch Portman Road Fanzone
Wednesday, 27th Jul 2016 17:38

Town have announced the launch of a new matchday Fanzone at weekend games at Portman Road with free entry for all home supporters, featuring bars, live music, food and a kids' area.

The Fanzone will be situated on the FieldTurf behind the East of England Co-operative Stand and will be open to season ticket holders, those with match tickets and club members from three hours before kick-off.

The Blue Inn marquee will host bars with a range of beers, while live matches will be shown on giant screens.

There will also be food outlets, live music and for youngsters bouncy castles and other activities.

“It’s an exciting venture,” said Town MD, Ian Milne. “We are hoping that the Fanzone will be a place that Town fans will meet up before kick-off and enjoy that pre-match build-up and buzz you get in the lead up to the game.”

The Fanzone will be open for the first game of the new season, against Barnsley on Saturday 6th August, with a number of Town legends set to attend.

Entry will be via Gate 1A from midday with last orders at the bars at 2.30pm. All supporters must exit the Fanzone through Gate 1A and head to their regular turnstiles in order to enter the stands. More details on the club site.

Nothing to complain about here! Always felt that the space behind that stand was a prime spot for pre-match activity. Glad to see it's being opened up beyond just to people with tickets for that stand.

In an story that has no negativity in it at all, it's amazing some people still manage to find some.

Good move by the club, if the food is good, Burger and Beyond etc, I'm all for it

Great stuff. People have been critical of the club for not doing enough for fans and this is a step in the right direction.

Sounds great. Have just told my 10 year old who has his first season ticket this year and he is well up for it.

To those that find negativity in anything... get a grip, dullards.

Sounds like a great idea. One point I will raise as I am sure others will. The beer and food needs a vast improvement on the guf that is served inside the ground. On a number of occasions last season I had a cold hot dog or a rock solid sausage roll that felt like it had been in an oven for 12 hours. Oh and another thing, people will not buy the food and beer if they need to fill in a mortgage application to pay for it!

Can they go one step further and possibly look into showing the away games as well . Totally agree rip regarding the food . Absolutely disgusting and charging gourmet prices

I know the club has to be run on a business footing but maybe the club should look at this as a way of enhancing the day, rather than trying to screw the fans for another few quid.

So keep the drink prices competitive and get the best food, not the cheapest. Oh, and make sure there is enough staff. Even 'too many' in fact. Fans will soon fill up the place if you get it right.

Fingers crossed.

I've always felt the club were lacking here (I'd open again after the match too) if you look at the finances - match day revenue was always one we weren't great on - hopefully this can help
