Dozzell Set for England U18s Cap
Friday, 7th Oct 2016 10:14

Midfielder Andre Dozzell looks set to win his third England U18s cap when the Young Lions face Sweden in the first of two friendlies against Sweden in Kungsängen this afternoon (KO 5pm BST).

The sides meet in another friendly in Taby on Sunday afternoon. Town striker Ben Morris, who also won his first two England U18s caps last month, has not been included in the squad for these two games.

Meanwhile, Blues loanee Tom Lawrence was an unused sub as Wales drew 2-2 in their second World Cup qualifier in Austria last night. The Welsh are in World Cup action again on Sunday when they take on Georgia at the Cardiff City Stadium.

England U18s: Ellery Balcombe (Brentford), Ryan Sandford (Millwall), Jake Turner (Bolton Wanderers), Tolaji Bola (Arsenal), Jaden Brown (Tottenham Hotspur), Jonathan Dinzeyi (Tottenham Hotspur), Morgan Feeney (Everton), Ash Kigbu (Manchester City), Japhet Tanganga (Tottenham Hotspur), Dennis Adeniran (Fulham), Tariq Uwakwe (Chelsea), Andre Dozzell (Ipswich Town), Marcus McGuane (Arsenal), Elliot Embleton (Sunderland), Martell Taylor-Crossdale (Chelsea), George Hirst (Sheffield Wednesday), Jonathan Leko (West Bromwich Albion), Mason Mount (Chelsea), Reiss Nelson (Arsenal).

At least he should get some game time!

Can't help to think that players like Dozzell and Morris should be on the bench instead of players like Luke Varney -as well as loan players from other clubs.

He should be playing in the 1st team every week.

At the AGM / social last night Steve Foley (very experienced Academy Coach) was saying Andre has it all, including the pace to get away from opponents. For fans wanting him in the 1st team every week - MM knows best. Look at what has happened to Teddy Bishop.

Come on.
MM knows best.
Think how he can improve his performance watching skuse and douglas week in week out.

Dozzell isn't ready to be a starter for us yet. But i don't why he isn't getting 20 mins a match.

Just to follow on with that if we gradually bring him in like i said come say Jan Feb time we could have Bish and Doz in CM with jonny williams just ahead.

Saw Dozza at Wendy last year and absolutely nowhere near ready to start. Yes he scored granted but the rest not convinced. I remember being at Derby the previous season and Teddy Bishop's league debut there was utterly incredible, he was our best player on the pitch by a margin first half. Beating players for fun.

I think Derby away with Varney scoring probably explains why he's in the squad over Morris.

The academy is working though at least. If some of these players are quite as good as we're thinking then the U23 results should be good pretty much each game.

Shame we don't ever put teams to bed as then we'd have the luxury of letting more of our young guns like Andre and Morris loose for the last 20 mins to help bed them in and help acclimatise them to life in the first team.

There's a theory that the ITFC PR department read these comments to gauge reaction. Well, here's a memo to you: The longer MM doesn't communicate with the fans the quicker he will have to have an ignominious exit. Dozzell plays and scores at Hillsborough last season then doesn't figure this. Maybe if MM told us he's not strong enough yet, struggling with stamina or needs extra work on an aspect of his game then we might allow Mick some slack. He's not Alex Ferguson, he's a manager who is struggling in the Championship. He has some young very talented youngsters under his care and we need to know what is going on.
TWTD, please ask the questions in the press conferences. You have nothing to lose.

Carberry

MM has said on a number of occasions that Andre isn't physically strong enough for the first team at present, although has said he might be more suited for a central three at this stage in his development, but probably not the type of midfield three he has fielded in recent games.

For all his undoubted talent, it's worth remembering he's only 17 and there aren't many 17-year-olds playing regularly in the Championship these days.

If he isn't strong enough maybe Kevin should slip him a few cans of Iron Bru to build him up a bit :-)

I understand the need to protect young players in the sense that they are still developing physically. But unless a young player is built like a brick outhouse I get the impresion that MM isn't really keen on playing them. For example a donkey like Frank Nouble.

Thanks for pointing that out. However my point remains that MM just doesn't communicate his reasons for team selection or tactics . I know that there may be personal reasons like the effect it can have on players and their teammates but in general he should be more open. Instead of becoming more belligerent he should have more empathy with us, although I would guess part of that attitude is because Mr Evans has told him he's safe!

Mick doesn't need to justify team selections as he's above target for this season because as it stand as we have 13 points from 11 games which works out to average point tally of 1.18 a game which means he is averaging 0.18 points extra game than he would ideally like! :-)
We also have 2 more goals than Derby, and thereby remain the league's joint second bottom goal scorers with Cardiff. Burton Albion have scored twice as many as us, although they have conceded 7 more.
One thing I can't get my head around is if we went away and attacked and we only won 1 game out of 3, we would still average 3 points every 3 games on the road, which is no different than a draw in each. However, when we set out to nick a point away we get caught out more often than not (think Leeds) than when we manage a lucky 3 points (think Derby). When you invite pressure it's likely at some point a goal will go in (even if our defending has been good overall this season). So if we go to nick 3 games on the road and we manage to scrape a draw in 2 and lose the other we end up with 2 points. However, if we go to attack on the road and our boldness results in just 1 win in 3, we end up with a point extra. Even if we get turned over badly once or twice, come the end of the season, 1 point on average every 3 games could make the difference between safety or relegation! And besides, it would be a heck of a lot more exciting going to watch knowing we're going away to at least try and make a game of it by committing players forward to attack. Does anybody else follow this logic or do you think it's more prudent to approach away games in a far more cautious manner like Mick appears to?

Both Andre's dad and George Burley were young starters - had protection on the pitch too from their experienced team mates and trust me they could handle themselves too.

All in all I understand MM being protective of Andre.

Whatever referees may say "Flair" and "Creative" players do get kicked to bu****y in the Championship and enjoy nowhere near the protection they get as multi-million pound assets in the Premier.

It's natural for Mick, especially at his age, to shield the younger players at the club. He's old enough to be Andre's Grandad after all !

As long as we keep young Dozzell on our books at this point I'm happy waiting for him to break through - which he most surely will - to be a first team regular for us and for England.

Midastouch, I agree, it is nonsense to start every game home or away simply trying to negate the opposition and then to see if there's a chance of nicking it. Who wants to see that unless we are playing Barcelona or Bayern Munich. I went to Pride Park and that's the way we treated Derby except we did nick it in the most underserved manner. Is that all the fun we have to look forward to?

Robsons philosophy was if good enough them play them What frustrates the older Town fans is that we have put up with Douglas etc. We dream of young Beattie, Wark exciting the fans
