Bishop, Williams and Varney in U23s Facing Cardiff
Monday, 24th Oct 2016 12:55

Teddy Bishop, Jonny Williams and Luke Varney will all feature for Town’s U23s when they face Cardiff City at Portman Road this evening (KO 7pm).

Williams, a late sub at Newcastle on Saturday, is continuing his comeback after the ankle injury he suffered in pre-season while with parent club Crystal Palace, while Bishop will get another game under his belt having been an unused sub at St James’ Park.

Varney has been out of the first-team matchday 18 in recent weeks having struggled to get to full fitness after picking up a hamstring problem while playing for the U23s against Leeds last month.

Dean Gerken will be in goal, while Paul Digby, who has recently been playing in central midfield rather than at centre-half, is also in Gerard Nash’s side.

Meanwhile, Town have confirmed that keeper Michael Crowe will be out for around three months having ruptured ankle ligaments in last Monday’s U23s 2-2 draw at Colchester.

Admission to the Cobbold Stand only is £3 for adults and £1 for concessions, while season ticket holders can get in free.

Bish should be starting for the first team.

Mick takes plenty of stick from fans but people seem to be quiet about him still saying that Bish is not fit and that he has been out for a long while through injury. However, he was fit enough to play games at the end of last season. That was 6 months ago. How much rehabilitation does one player need???

If Mick and the team don't think he's fit enough, then he's not fit. Unless you're in the team, and know the player, your comment means nothing. Can you see any advantage in him not playing a fit Bish? If I were you I'd save your breath.

Just clear as day being very cautious with Bishop and don't want him breaking down, season over quickly again. Clearly he's had other problems ontop of the shin splints, while it's frustrating it's at least great to have him back in the 18. He needs to start Saturday, along with McGoldrick who I assume will.

While I'd love Jonny boy to start Saturday, I think he needs a little more time. Hopefully both play 90 tonight, get through and play well.

well said martin587.
we all have our opinions. I think that Bishop is at times wrapped in cotton wool. Let the lad play!

Just face it MM does not like or trust the youngsters, Josh, miles bish Andre should all be getting more game time, but dino just won't give them a chance, that's why the young ones are leaving when the opportunity arises

MM has said it before "if the Bish is fit then he's in the team". I see no reason why he should have changed his view. I don't suppose breaking his nose twice and being concussed will have helped his match fitness.

Manager now approaching 4 years in charge, and has yet to introduce ANY players from the youth set up,who then nail down even a semi-regular place.

Is it down to the players not being good enough,or the ultra cautious management?

Will leave you to decide;but his performance against Burton, especially when he got back and made two super tackles makes me think that if he isn't fit, then neither is Grandad Douglas who seemed to spend most of the time trotting about and pointing, even walking at times;but hardly made a tackle or worthwhile pass on Saturday.

And where are these shots that Mr McCarthy was talking about him making a couple of weeks ago.

Our Manager seems not only arrogant, stubborn and set in his ways;but also bloody minded,or just plain deluded..Most fans could see that Dougie wouldn't suddenly become a goal machine at 35,in fact would be lucky to score one goal, which he hasn't since Mick made this silly assertion.

It gives no great pleasure to read the report of tonight's game. 'A shadow of the player he was' it said.
