Pro Deal for Nydam
Monday, 7th Nov 2016 11:59

Academy midfielder Tristan Nydam turned 17 yesterday, allowing him to put pen to paper on his first professional deal with the club.

TWTD understands that the Zimbabwe-born, Colchester-raised first-year scholar has agreed a two-year contract, the longest deal permitted for a 17-year-old.

Box-to-box midfielder Nydam, who was on standby for the England U17s squad for the European Championships in June, came on as a sub for the first team in the friendly at Cambridge in the summer but is yet to be included in a competitive senior 18.

Great to see. It would be great to see more players come through the ranks. Best of luck Nydam!

I hope he can get into the first team, although it has to be said that he must be mad to sign a pro deal with us given what he's seen of our other youth players

So Tempzzzz - the fact that we had 8 players in the squad on Sat aged 23 or under and that we have 6 players who have played for us this season who came through our academy means he hasn't got a chance?

Tempzzzz i get being down on Mick and him sticking to his faves over the years. But theres no need to be negative on all posts! I see this as good for the lad thats the main thing.

Apologies, I didn't mean to sound so negative, I didn't read it back. It sounds worse than I meant. I am of course delighted when we get young talent progressing through, I was a bit abrupt by saying he must be mad. What I meant was, the players that come through the youth team seem to be side lined most of the time, I know Bish came through the youth academy but other players that have just seem to be used as fill ins for the favourites and then immediately dropped again once they're back from injury. Dozzell can't even get 10 mins at the end, Emmanuel had a MOTM performance on his full debut and gets dropped as soon as Chambo is back. Fair play he scored, but I still don't rate him overall. I love this club and I hate seeing our best young talent leaving

I do get your point when you look at good young lads who don't get a chance then thrive like Rhodes etc.

From what i have sreen of this lad. I would not be at all surprised to see him in a first team squad by the end of the season if he keeps improving. A fine prospect.

Tempzzz. Re. Young players coming through the youth system and then getting sidelined is how it works in pro football. It is a very harsh reality. Most are not good enough. Very few make it. Of those few that do they will vary greatly as to the age at which they are ready for Regular first team football. Just as we have had players such as Bish come through we have inevitably lost others who come through later elsewhere. But similarly good young players have come through at Town after being let go by other clubs, Cresswell, Wickham etc.
You are far too negative in your criticism.

In all fairness the reason why David Wright went to Norwich is probably because he can see his work coming through
