Town Linked With Move for Blackpool Midfielder
Tuesday, 6th Dec 2016 11:35

Town will reportedly make a move for Blackpool central midfielder Brad Potts during the January transfer window.

"According to the Daily Mail, the Blues are set to make a £500,000 offer for the 22-year-old, who is being eyed by a number of Championship clubs.

The League Two Seasiders are said to be loath to sell their playmaker, having signed him at the end of his contract at Carlisle in the summer of 2015 when the Cumbrians received a reported £250,000 in compensation, but could be tempted if they were to be offered the chance to double their money.

In the summer Blackpool were reported to have turned down an offer from League One leaders Scunthorpe.

The former England U19 international’s contract at Bloomfield Road runs to the end of this season but includes an option for a further year.

Potts, who is 6ft 2in tall, was born in Hexham and came through the youth ranks at Carlisle, breaking into their first-team at the start of the 2012/13 season when he featured in their Capital One Cup defeat of the Blues at Brunton Park.

Having made 103 starts and 15 sub appearances in three years for the Cumbrians, scoring 10 goals, Potts, who can also play at right midfield and at right-back, has now made 69 starts and played one game from the bench for the Tangerines, scoring 14 times, including eight this season.

While a striker to replace Daryl Murphy is top of Town's January wish-list, manager Mick McCarthy may well also look to add strength to other areas of his squad with goals from central midfield once again having been in short supply this season.

TBH, sounds pretty decent but the thing that worries me is the word versatile, this means he will be played in defence and any skill he has will be driven out of him. Once again, Mick will destroy another young prospect!

What with Skuse (undroppable), Dozzell, Bishop, Bru, Douglas, McDonnell, Kenyu, Blanchfield and Coke. I understand the need for another central midfielder

cloddy, apart from webster, lawerence, ward & knudsen are doing well, in the last couple of years we've had fraser, mings, cresswell, smith & bishop all doing well.
interesting signing, but would rather give bishop a chance to regain his form

Its not a glove - its some sort of support aid - maybe he fell awkwardly and his hand was injured

We have been lacking.a goal scoring box to box midfielder for many years,
Probably going right back to Tommy Miller/Matt Holland hopefully this lad could be the one.The whole team is badly short of goals, not one of our squad will make double figures this season.None of our strikers are natural finishers, the midfield is bang average with only Ward occasionally chipping in,even the defence no longer contribute.
3/4 signings required in January or its a relegation battle.

No chance coming here for 500k even if it happened Dino would not play him centre mid probably on the wing as defensive cover for Knudsen.Anyway Dino out after Saturday hopefully .

How about Pol Pot (on the same wage as everyone else, natrualy). He would fit the bill of midfield general. Maybe a little too attack minded for Mick?

This needs to be one of three or four signings. Central midfield has no goal threat. We urgently need one if not two strikers as our are frankly not goal scorers.

Why bother signing anyone until we get rid of McCarthy.
New manager new faces.

does anyone really think/believe we will sign anyone ?? an injured loan player or someone who is a gamble which probably wont pay off is all we can expect.

He had listened to the weather forecast for that day and it said it might be a bit nippy in Lancashire but, on the other hand, it may be warm!

The Daily Mail. Isn't that a comic that tells lies and incites hatred ? Hardly a reliable source of information on any subject.

"being eyed by a number of Championship clubs".

Well we know how that's going to end don't we!

If true then this will be the test of ambition for our owner/manager.
My feeling is that Blackpool will not part with him lightly and why should they? If our manager really rates him that much then I hope the owner backs him but please don't start a bidding war because we won't have chance. I can still remember the Charlie Austin saga of a few years back and we don't want a repeat of that.

Happy that this is the type of player that we are interested in, however please just sign a player who can play CM. The game no longer need 'Jack of all master of none' players. Back in the 70s and 80s yes when we only had 12 and 13 players on match days, but it is almost like having another team to chose from on match days now. Was all looking good until it stated he can play RM or RB.

I'm sure he's half decent, still young and a good price. Could see such a player doing well for us, a creative midfielder is one of the positions we've been crying out for. However I'd love to see Bish or Williams step up and be that guy to create a spark.

Creative midfielders are all well and good but c'mon man, since Murph left we need a striker. I don't think we should even attempt at strengthening any other position before a top class striker is signed. It'll cost a few million to get a player of the level we need, so if Evans supplies the funds, spend it!
