McCarthy Hopeful on Early January Addition
Thursday, 29th Dec 2016 14:11

Town boss Mick McCarthy is hoping to make an addition to his squad early in January but wouldn’t comment on links with Fulham striker Cauley Woodrow.

“Hopefully, yes. I hope so,” McCarthy said when asked if there might be a new signing in time for the Lincoln City or Blackburn Rovers games soon after the transfer window opens.

The Blues were reported to be keen to sign Woodrow on a six-month loan yesterday, but when quizzed McCarthy wouldn’t comment: “I haven’t read it. He’s not my player so I won’t talk about him. That’s unfair.”

Town defender Adam Webster has also been the subject of speculation with Sunderland and Everton among the clubs to have been linked with the centre-half, but McCarthy says he has no plans to cash in on the 21-year-old.

“I wouldn’t look to sell him at all, I’ve no desire to sell him,” he said. “We bought him and I think we nicked him from under the noses from some who dawdled and didn’t do it and we’ve got a really good player, one that I think the team should be built around, not to be taken away.

“He’s a terrific talent and he’s only going to get better. But I’m not surprised [clubs have been linked] because you’ve heard me wax lyrical about him and I guess the one thing I do know about is centre-halves, if nothing else.”

If a Premier League club were to offer a very significant fee for the former Portsmouth man might Town then be tempted? “You’d have to ask [owner] Marcus [Evans] that.”

As previously reported, Pompey are entitled to 20 per cent of the profit the Blues would make on Webster if he were to be sold.

Cauley Woodrow is garbage. Even though we made them look like it, Fulham are not world beaters and he doesn't even get a look in there. Yet again it looks like we'll be going for cheapo's and naff loan signings. Short term mentality as always.

If this was a press conference was there a journalist present to ask why McCarthy is still in post?

...I guess the one thing I do know about is centre halves

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

...that's why you continue to play Chambers out at RB and persist in an ever liable Berra

......but then again...doing that and now saying it's the one thing you do know about fully explains
...why Douglas and Skuse play together
....you didn't replace Murphy
....Attendances are plummeting and you don't seem to care
.....you treat Cup competitions as a joke
....and increasingly teams see us as the worst in the league

Talk about signing your own P45

.......bring on the Mick Lovers

Again this does sound desperate !!!
We have always waited to see what was left and ultimately left with out pants down (the Murphy deal was a prime example). Obviously realises he cannot wait until the end of Jan.

Will not be anyone worth having and even if it was McCarthy would have him playing like a programmed robot within two weeks complete waster get him out of our club.

@Michael11 - 'Short term mentality'? That's why Mick signed Webster and Grant Ward, I'm guessing?

We don't want you to make any signings !!!

We want you to go away. Very very far away !!!

Let our NEW MANAGER build his team.

You're finished here. Nobody wants you here anymore not the fans and clearly not the players.

What is the point in us wasting money on any players right now, we need a new manager, so any players bought will be a waste, because eventually we might get a new manager and he'll want his own players

Boring. Just more platitudes and vapid words from a sh1te dinosaur of a manager.

FO McCarthy and take that muppet Connor with you before you do any more damage.

Would rather see us make a move for Matt Smith - then if we are to be lumbered with McCarthy for the forseeable future at least he could get us playing more effectively to his "style".

Hi all . I can't think why you have such a down on our manager. Ok , he plays players out of position , only plays his favourites , selects a defensive team when at home , only signs average players , waits till the end of the transfer window and there is no one left , doesn't give out youngsters a chance and has us fighting for a relegation spot but apart from that , what is the poor man doing to upset you all.Beats me. Sic.

If people havent yet seen this (see link below) a petition has been started to oust the dinosaur. However, I have to say, if people are going to directly target MM, then one for Evans should be started to. They are both culpable for this current mess. Given the choice, I'd rather see Evans out. He failed to back MM 2 years ago when we were in a superb position to push on, and had a realistic chance of promotion. ITFC have been in decline ever since.
