Town Sign Former Trialist Spence
Monday, 16th Jan 2017 16:15

Town have announced the signing of former West Ham and MK Dons right-back Jordan Spence on a contract to the end of the season. The 26-year-old was on trial with the Blues in September and October when he featured for the U23s matches at Bolton and at home to Liverpool.

Free agent Spence was released by the MK Dons last summer having joined them initially on loan in 2013 from West Ham where he came through the youth ranks.

While with the Hammers the Londoner also had spells on loan at Leyton Orient, Scunthorpe, Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday.

Spence was capped by England at U16, U17, U18, U19 and U21 levels.

Following his trial with the Blues, Spence had similar spells with Rotherham United and Birmingham City.

The new signing, who trained with the squad this morning, is not available for Tuesday's FA Cup third round replay at Lincoln as he wasn't a Town player for the initial tie.

make me laugh - we sign a right back just when they finally played with the 3 at the back and looked so good.....

Bit random! Hope this doesn't push Emmanuel down...

Along with Moore, best of luck at ipswich.

Few eyebrows raised at this one though...On trial previously but not signed at the time seems we are clutching at straws and are just trying to get faces in regardless.

His most played position is RB? ...Emmanuel?!

Released from a league 1 MK Dons? Hmm..

Saw him play for the U23s at Bolton and he looked decent, am hoping he's being signed as backup for Emmanuel and that this is a sign that MM intends to stick with 3-5-2.

jutever, I think that's the point. 3 at the back means chambers moves into the middle, leaving us with just Emmanuel at rb. So he signed Spence to be the backup to Emmanuel if he get's injured or needs a rest, meaning we won't have to change formation if Emmanuel was unavailable.

If Spence's signing pushes Chambers back to center back, then I'm all for it.

Loving the fact that his wife is the Pink Power Ranger in the movie coming out this year. I can see some good 'bants' on the training field.

Best of luck Jordan!

Now, how about a striker..?

Hope his wages aren't too ex-spence-ive.

I'll see myself out.

Living in MK have watched him many times, always liked him good going forward and skilled on the Ball, looked good in a very poor MK Defence don't know he did not stay other than the had G Baldock back for this Season. very good cover right across the Defence

Maybe left MK and didn't sign for any club he had trials with as he wanted to replicate his West Ham wage, now after being unemployed for 7 months he's realised the 5k a week or whatever we've offered him isn't so bad!!

More bargain basement signings, are we really a championship side??? Sign someone we have heard of

Just seem to be getting numbers in, once again may never feature in the 1st team squad. Released by MK Dons, must be a hell of a player.

Attacking midfielder and another striker more important than rb

Give this guy a chance.... he hasn't kicked a ball yet...

He is back up to chambers/Emmanuel & it's only till the end of the season...

Just here to make numbers as we are short on players...

We will get a striker this window (Mick doing his best to get one)

3 at the back worked well for us on sat & would be pleased if we kept with this formation.
Not a bad replacement for Emmanuel if he's injured or rested.
Ward in next is it?!!

Free transfer on a short term deal. Can't get too excited by this. This one just seems pointless. Not wanted back in September, but now all of a sudden good enough? Couldn't get a deal elsewhere? Very bizarre.

Best indication yet of us playing regularly with 3 CBs. MM is also a pretty good judge of bargain players. Seems very sensible cover for Emmanuel.....plus if JS is a sensible lad he should now be hungry to impress MM for a further contract. A Win/Win arrangement in my opinion.

I don't get the negativity with this one, this guy has a good pedigree (playing for West Ham and England u21's) and has clearly held his own in the Championship for a few years as well during a few loan spells and played 33 times for MK Dons last season. he's only on a contract til the end of the season so if it doesn't work out it won't cost us anything to let him go, if he proves himself he earns a new deal.

I see this as a win / win situation AND WE HAVE A PROPER RIGHT BACK !!!!!

Have seen this lad play a lot - my god-son was with him at West Ham for about 7 years - and he was/is a good player. Not sure why he is a free agent but he can play and is a good athlete.

Best of luck to him, I hope he has something to prove and we are the place he can do that. I also agree that this may be a sign that Berra is going but who knows!?

Good luck Jordan and I hope that there are a few more coming and perhaps Mr Evans might even pay a fee for some of them..
