Milne: Stay With Mick
Wednesday, 18th Jan 2017 10:54

Town MD Ian Milne has urged fans to “stay with” manager Mick McCarthy and his team, despite last night’s humiliating FA Cup exit at Lincoln City.

Supporters have reacted angrily to the 1-0 defeat at Sincil Bank, only the Blues' second FA Cup defeat to non-league opposition since they joined the Football League, Peterborough United having won 3-2 in the third round at Portman Road in 1960.

In a statement to BBC Suffolk, Milne said: "Over the two matches Lincoln City were clearly the better organised team. That resulted in them deserving to win and we should, and have, congratulated them.

"We clearly did not perform to the standard we can do and an example of that is the good win we got against Blackburn last Saturday.

"However, nobody in the squad takes any pleasure in producing that type of football in front of our great away fans or indeed to the wider television audience.

"As usual Mick had been honest in his after-match comments and I have nothing to add to that regarding the game.

"I would add that over the last few days we have added players to the squad and we have bids in for others.

"So in these difficult times we would ask our fans to stay with Mick and the boys as we make improvements to the squad and get our injured players match fit, as our aim is to return to winning, entertaining football as we started to do against Blackburn."

Hackney blue whilst i feel your sons pain like we are all hurting at the moment, im guessing his mates who are laughing etc at school are only armchair/gl;ory hunters fans , support chelski one season man city the next etc and like i taught my kids , i have more respect for Norwich city fans because at least they support their local team through thick and thin like us ITFC fans, AND they did eventually get it its a good lesson on LOYALTY if nothing else :)

What's happened to the petition we signed to get rid of him?

The point is stick with what. The club has a poor team, expensive ticket prices & a manager who in my view has lost the players & has been given plenty of time to turn things round.

I will not be returning whilst MM is in charge. Why does Mr Milne expect me to pay money for the current product? I still love the club but don't take me for granted. Last night was not a one off and everyone knows it.

PS - to those who use expletives against other fans on this site & insult them can I ask them to think about what they are writing. We are all fed up and most want change. Insulting & sweating at people because they don't agree with just weakens your argument especially when you then talk about freedom of speech!

Don't worry @Brownie I will not be sweating on anyone. :-)

As a club we are in a bad place. We are essentially a one man team and he is on loan.

I wholeheartedly disagree with the notion that you cannot play attacking football on the budget we have. But I think alas MM is incapable of getting us to play in that way and the personnel he has picked have not been the right ones or used in the right way. Time for MM to move on but alas doubt he will as there is a contract and money involved, so we are stuck watching a side who are lower mid-table for the foreseeable.

Comical Ali was less detached from reality than the current Portman Road hierarchy.

Maybe we should find him and give him a press job, at least there'd be something resembling entertainment at the club.

As someone who has held the FA CUP in 78/9 only 5 then but even so... I missed the glory days but at least have lived though the playoff battles with Charlton and the early 90's premiership Burley days, then the Magilton days so have had some good ups and downs, Ipswich till I die. (Even though I live in Narwich and have to have to keep my window shut most of the time due to the smell of passers by.) Never before posted on this site but always read every comment to the last (super show). I NOW AM ASHAMED TO ADMIT I AM MORE INTERESTED IN OTHER PREMIERSHIP AND CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES ON MATCHDAY BECAUSE BRAND IPSWICH HAS LOST EVERYTHING IT HAD GOING FOR IT EVEN FOR ME I'M KIND OF HEARTBROKEN. AT THIS RATE WE WILL LOSE OUR FANS OF THE FUTURE AND I FEAR WE'LL NEED THEM AS WHEN LEAGUE 2 BECKONS THE GATE REVENUE WILL COUNT!

hahahahahahaha! (again)...entertaining football?!?

Whatever happened to the word 'progression' which was regularly being taunted by the board before this season?...not a mention of it now.

I am outraged by this statement from Milne. What last night proved beyond any doubt is that McCarthy is incapable of change. Milne is taking us for mugs. I've been a fan since 1962 but no more. Our views are unimportant to the club, so the only option we have is to BOYCOTT until change comes. With a heavy heart I stopped going earlier this season and won't return until MM has gone. The real loss though is that no youngster is going to get enthused to watch this shower, so where will the fans of tomorrow come from? The future is bleak.

We were told at school that football is basically about passing the ball along the ground to another player wearing the same coloured shirt. Surely this concept holds true at all levels of the game. A friend asked me today to say what is wrong with our team. I told him everything - players with all skill coached out of them, complete lack of direction from management, dreadful team selection (Best and Douglas would struggle in a Div 2 side), no passion - what more is there to say. If Marcus Evans really wants s to be more than a loss for tax on his group balance sheet he needs to step in now with some real money for quality players e.g a few more Tom Lawrences. Otherwise he needs to sell up and let someone else try.

The only people who were not surprised by this result were the Ipswich fans.
McCarthy is far to selfish and ignorant to walk away from the job because he would lose far to much money from his very lucrative contract . If he had any heart felt feelings for the fans who have supported club through thick and thin he would sacrifice the rest of his contract and walk away. Please Mick,do the right thing for our club and walk away.

This sums up the arrogant D1CK HEADS that own & run our club.

10 years of ME & 4 years of MM & Milne now insulting us by saying stick behind manager even though Non League Lincoln are better oraganised & deserved to beat us .. TWICE

This guy is a total joke & an insult to our intelligence ..

Jog on Milne you stick with him if you want

There are definitely 3 muppets controlling the club any ideas!! If Milne thinks we should stick with him he obviously had his eyes shut last night!! Clueless the only option is to stay away!! After all I think it must be more fun watching paint dry!! At least we don't have to pay for that privilege!!
MM out!!

Had a rant earlier before work. Now returned home for another one. McCarthy is comparing out defeat to Liverpool not defeating Plymouth. Liverpool dominated that game, had 70% possession, 25-30 shots but couldn't get the ball in the net. That happens sometimes and Liverpool at this stage have not been defeated. We were dominated by a non-team that outplayed us in both matches in all areas. I thought last night was a new low point but to read Ina Milne is backing MM surpasses even last night as a new low. I attended the AGM the season before last and had a few choice words about several issues, but the thing I remember most was the incompetence of the Club staff who could not answer simple questions or even introduce themselves properly. Apart that is from Sally Webb who looked a tad embarrassed at times about the performance of her colleagues. So, in my own mind, even then, I was not optimistic about the future but could never have predicted the events of the past twenty four hours. There surely can be no way back for MM who has had his chance. Unfortunately, however, even if he goes, unless there is a complete regime change there will be no improvement and the Club will continue to be humiliated. Evans may well have bought the Club with genuine ambition but believe now that even he has given up and is using the Club merely as a means to lessen his tax liability. Meanwhile the Club debt increases and the stadium falls apart. Ex players are saying that MM has lost the dressing room - it is plain to see.

Well if mr milne is still supporting the manager then maybe he needs to look at his position as well.
No reasonable person can say that the manager has got it right and all the supporters have got it wrong. Have a look at the football entertainment that would encourage supporters to flock in and show there support.
I'm a season ticket holder and assure you that it will not be renewed under this management.I can also tell you that others I know feel the same.
This cup experience should be the nail in the coffin. It's obvious that the team is not good enough to challenge for promotion. Promotion must be the ambition ,it's the promised land . This is less likely year after year now as each team relegated will always outspend Ipswich.
Have a look at teams like Bournemouth for some inspiration.
The club needs a new direction and certainly new players.
So mr Milne if your not up for it please move on.

McCarthy's position is surely untenable after last night? He has to take responsibility for the way the team was set up. Even the commentators stated they could not see any recognisable game plan. Big Terry B summed up the mood really "disgraceful". I've said it before, the only way to get Evans to listen is either a mass boycott or a mass protest. Our proud club is rotten to the core, and dying on its arse. Evans/Dinosaur out.

Why should supporters stick with mock.He has never had the guts to say what is going wrong is anything to do with him and his actions. No sign of contrition in anything he has done that has caused all the upheaval at this club.Lack of cash is no excuse for not being able to coach players to play decent football. BrianKlug has produced good young players in the right way to play the game but ignorant manager has contrived to ruin all the good work that has been with the young players.Anything he can do to stop their elevation to the first team squad ahead of some the dead wood and overpaid over thirties he will do.And where's news on Webster and how he got his latest injury.

I'm sorry Mr Milne but nobody is going to listen to you. All credit has run out. Your argument cannot be supported. After over 2 years of atrocious and limited football, that does a disservice to this club's previously progressive football philosophy, we, the fans, can take no more. The level of passion on this forum supports that view. It is too late. It is clear that you recognise this. Understandable that you are toeing the party line, yet ultimately regrettable that you choose to cross your fingers and hope it will pass. It won't.

I am a passionate supporter and have been since 1978. I am a season ticket holder in the family stand (believe me, it's a struggle to get anyone under the age of 13 to come with me these days) and am not usually vocal on this site. As such, when fans like myself feel compelled to vent their frustration, I feel the club had reached a point if no return. We are very patient in these parts. My patience has gone and I'm afraid my season ticket will follow. It was blind faith that made me renew and Mr McCarthy's consistently defensive, uninspiring tactics and, frankly, clueless decision making has driven me to distraction. I've played, watched and coached (including for the Town) a lot of football in my time and no-one can tell me what I'm watching is good.

This club a massive part of my life. It always has been. I know good times will come again. But not with Mr McCarthy in charge. You cannot persuade me otherwise.
