Spence Handed Debut at Huddersfield
Saturday, 21st Jan 2017 14:24

Jordan Spence makes his Town debut and Andre Dozzell, Kevin Bru and Freddie Sears all return to the Blues side at Huddersfield, while Dean Gerken keeps his place in goal with Bartosz Bialkowski unwell.

The Blues look set to continue with their 3-5-2 system with skipper Luke Chambers in the centre between Paul Digby and Christophe Berra at the back.

New boy Spence is the right wing-back with Josh Emmanuel dropping to the bench. Jonas Knudsen continues on the left.

In midfield, Dozzell and Bru join Cole Skuse with Jonathan Douglas and Grant Ward among the subs. Tom Lawrence is up front with Sears, who replaces Leon Best, who is left out of the 18.

Town’s other new signing Kieffer Moore is on the bench, alongside Tristan Nydam, who TWTD revealed was set to travel with the squad on Friday.

The 17-year-old midfielder is with the first-team squad for the first time for a competitive match, although came on as a sub in the pre-season match at Cambridge, and has been handed squad number 45.

Huddersfield are without key midfielder Aaron Mooy, who has a back injury, while new German striker Collin Quaner's clearance hasn't come though.

Huddersfield: Ward, Smith (c), Hefele, Schindler, Löwe, Hogg, Billing, Kachunga, Van la Parra, Brown, Wells. Coleman, Whiteheas, Hudson, Bunn, Cranie, Lolley, Stankovic.

Town: Gerken, Spence, Digby, Chambers (c), Berra, Skuse, Knudsen, Bru, Dozzell, Lawrence, Sears. Subs: Crowe, Emmanuel, Douglas, Nydam, Ward, Moore, Pitman. Referee: Andy Davies (Hampshire).

Agree with most of the changes. MM is in better position than us to assess his players, but I would have thrown in Moore as well, Sears has being going through the motions. Huddersfield will press high and direct play to a target man would seem the most sensible option today, unless we plan to just defend our half and use the pace of the front two on the break.

Spence has a lot more experience than Emmanuel, who I am afraid still needs to add a lot more composure to his play both in defence and in possession. I thought the much maligned Douglas was one of the few to stand up to the physical challenge during the week. The manner Best allowed himself be physically dominated was shocking, and hopefully the club will get rid of him before the end of the month.

For once I would take a 0-0, on paper this team looks terrible. 6-3-1

Well most of the players that were involved on Tuesday are back for today, apart from Best by the looks of it.Doesn't look as if there will be as much hoof(couldn't be more)as no target man.

Mick as usual, saying that he wouldn't drop players after one bad game, has kept his word more or less;but why make Emmanuel a scapegoat yet again.

This is not the first time he has done this to Josh either.I recall he did the same on the other side when Knudsen arrived, putting a raw arrival at left back, when everybody expected Jonathan Parr to slot in there after having to play second fiddle to Mings the previous season. This did for Jonny who later moved to Scandinavia;hope same doesn't happen to Josh.

As usual hope for a win;but not so worried as used to be ,as bad result could hasten the Dino's departure.Doubt it though, sigh!

How could anyone drop Emmanuel, who was one of two bright sparks on Monday, for somebody who hasn't played for months and wasn't retained by Milton Keynes? I am beginning to think Mick sets out to lose!

It is all about seniority. Berra poor, Knudsen poor, Skuse poor, Chambers poor...who is the youngest...right lets drop Emmanuel. It is the same when the substitutes are made. Senior players do not even look up to see if it is them being subbed as it never is. If any subs are made it will be Bru, Dozzell or now Spence !!!
