Rowe Following in Brother's Footsteps
Tuesday, 31st Jan 2017 06:00

Town fans will have to wait before catching their first glimpse of new recruit Danny Rowe in the club colours.

Rowe will not be in contention for tonight’s visit of high-flying Derby to Portman Road because of a hip flexor injury picked up at former club Macclesfield and which saw him miss their two games prior to his transfer on Friday of last week.

Rowe said: “I’ve come here with an injury and I’d been out for two weeks at Macclesfield. It’s nothing serious but enough to stop me from joining in the training on Monday, which was my first day.

“The gaffer put me with the fitness coach but I was having a look around and it looked a lot quicker than what I’ve been used to.

“But I knew that would be the case and I’m excited at the thought of getting involved. Once I’ve had a few training sessions we’ll see where I go from there.”

He won’t be the first member of his family to play at Portman Road because big brother Tommy, currently with League Two leaders Doncaster Rovers, has already appeared there with previous clubs Peterborough and Wolves.

Rowe added: “Tommy has been a big inspiration to me. We talk every day about football and he advised me to come here. He only had good things to say about the manager here.

“He’s played in the Championship for most of his career so he knows all about this level. He’s just told me to be positive and he says there’s nothing I can’t do.

“As little kids we played against each other in the front room but there’s no competition any more. We have always supported each other and he used to tell me that I should have done better than he’s done.

“He’s had a very good career — he’s played most of it in the Championship — and he’s won a lot too.

“He’s played at Wembley three times as well, he has always encouraged me and he has even said I’m a better player than him. But I don’t like to say that — I just want to carry on progressing from where I am now.”

Good luck and welcome..

This is not a reflection on Danny but is it me or do we specialise in signing players who are injured?
