Huws a Doubt and Bishop and Hyam Both Miss Out
Monday, 6th Mar 2017 13:39

Midfielder Emyr Huws is a doubt ahead of Tuesday’s home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers with the hamstring problem which forced him off during the second half of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Brentford.

“We’re just waiting to see with Emyr Huws, he’s had a bit of a tight hamstring from the weekend,” manager Mick McCarthy said.

“We’ll see what tomorrow brings with him. I’m hoping he’ll be OK but the last thing I would do is risk him and risk missing him for four or five games because he’s been very, very good.”

McCarthy had one other new injury to report, further frustration for Luke Hyam, who has only just returned from a long spell on the sidelines with a knee injury, but fortunately nothing too serious.

“Luke Hyam has rocked his ankle,” the Town boss added. “I know he’s not been in the squad or on the bench, but I think we’re looking pretty good other than that.

“It’s nothing to do with his other injury. He made a great block on the line, it hit him right on the toe and it opened his ankle up. it’s kind of sod’s law for him at the minute, but he’ll be fine.”

Jonny Williams started for the U23s in this afternoon’s game against Bristol City at Playford Road having recovered from his shoulder injury but McCarthy says the on-loan Crystal Palace man is a little way off first-team involvement.

“He’s been out for a long time, this is his first game,” he said. “Let’s see whether he gets through 90 minutes, he might not even do that.”

Teddy Bishop, who was nursing a tight groin towards the end of last week, has been unwell over the weekend so won’t be involved against Wolves.

“He’s been poorly, he’s just back in today, he’s had a bit of sickness so he won’t be in the squad. It’s his first day in,” McCarthy added.

Central defender Steven Taylor is expected to be back from his hamstring injury in time for the trip to Cardiff a week on Saturday, while on-loan Reading striker Dominic Samuel (broken toe) was expected to be back on the the training ground doing some work at some point this week.

Another centre-half, Adam Webster, is out for the season having undergone ankle surgery.

Midfielder Giles Coke is set to be released at the end of the season having missed the entire campaign with a knee injury, while McCarthy has said striker Leon Best, who recently underwent a groin operation, won’t play for him again.

About the only thing that hasn't happened to Teddy Bishop this season is spontaneous combustion.

Annoys me when we have kept players like Coke for what seems like centuries to finally release him. If he was on a few grand a week, that is money wasted, not the mention how much treatment he has constantly needed.
Shame to think where that money could have been spent.

Will miss Huws if he doesn't play tomorrow, been very good and consistent since he's been here.

Well yes Super Cooper he has done well but i feel he could have done better in both the last to goals against us. In the Norwich game both Huws and Smith failed to make an attempt at a block for their goal and again on Saturday he could have got much closer to the Brentford player who get the ball forward for their goal but he fails to put him under pressure. I'm sure Mick would have noticed these errors and hopefully he learns from them for no doubt he can play and is better then the other midfielders we have.

iaintaylorx makes me wonder too. We get transfer windows and bring in players that are NOT fit or DONT fit, they don't play or get a few minutes as sub. Then they get shipped out again ,What the hell do we want players like that for, presumably its ''I do a bloody good job '' McCarthy's idea of strengthening a team , .......I cant get my head round it ,we cant afford decent players but can pay the sick ,lame and lazy.

There are so many people on these posts who slag Skuse off every week. I personally think he is vastly underrated. He was my MOM against Naarwich and against Brentford. He was highly rated in the match report by Phil TWTD and he was EADT MOM on Saturday. Just pay attention to the saving tackles that he does, the way he pops up all over midfield and his many interventions.
I admit he tends to go sideways but his job is to be a defensive MF and in my view does this very well.
He gets the same stick as Hyam was getting last season just because they play the role of destroyer. Not everyone can play the superstar roles. Appreciate what we have.

Hyam and Bishop will at best forever be play one - miss three - can't really see either cutting the ice here or anywhere else to be honest.

Players have to want success - some want the glory, but not what goes with it to achieve it.

Prove me wrong in both instances boys - would be a pleasure for me.

Orraman,Totally agree Skuse over the past three seasons has been one of our most
consistent performers.
