Town Linked With Dutch Midfielder
Monday, 8th May 2017 20:30

Town are interested in De Graafschap midfielder and captain Bryan Smeets, according to a report in Holland.

Smeets, 24, is out of contract having turned down new terms with his current club, from whom the Blues signed Fabian Wilnis in 1999, who play in the Jupiler League (second tier).

According to FoxSports.nl, the Blues are very keen on the former Dutch U17 international, who scored three goals and claimed nine assists during 2016/17, as are a number of lower ranking Eredivisie clubs.

Smeets, who is 5ft 11½in tall, started his career with his hometown club MVV Maastricht before joining De Graafschap in 2015.

At the end of the 2015/16 campaign Smeets scored the goal which determined the direction of the Dutch league title when he netted for De Graafschap against Ajax on the final day. Until that point Ajax were on their way to the Eredivisie championship, but because of his goal the title went to PSV Eindhoven.

That's good. We could do with a flying Dutchman (or eleven)

Low-risk, inexpensive, player in good form, quite young, Dutch, we need another CDM in the squad.

I can't see why not.

Did we get any more money on the Murphy deal after Newcastle went up?

Out of contract now there's a surprise! - I didn't think I'd see £2-3M wanted for him in the above wording.

It's really important we pay a fee for everyone - make them play better and stuff.

I love the "fans" of this club. If no rumors come out of the club, they are unhappy, if rumors do come up, its the first of many and they complain about that too.

Sorry but I f*cking love rumours guys! Gets me excited for the transfer window. We should be looking at players like this instead of journeyman championship players.

We need a goal scoring midfielder.

Good! We should be looking abroad for players, as they're much cheaper, and is a great place to find hidden gems which can be sold for a big profit.

Still, getting good players in the first part, you'll need a good footballing manager to do the other halve.

How does the club sell the many mediocre players we have been picked up in desperation over the past year?
How does the club get rid of a manager who has the skin of a rhino and refuses to fall on his sword?
How can the fans get through to an owner who appears deaf to supporters who pay high seat prices to watch mainly poor performances?
How is the club going to convince new supporters or even presently disappointed season ticket holders to turn up next season?
I know,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, no I don't I've lost interest like all the supporters who have decided to stay away. I still have memories of standing in a crowd of approximately 36000 watching Ipswich beat Man Utd 6-3 at home. Think on that Marcus!!!!

We'll said NorfolkBluey , what Evans has done to our club is shamefull he hasn't got the bottle to take us to the next level, as for Mick the results , league position and crowds say enough , he did the same at Wolves & Sunderland , thought he was bigger than the club

At 24 he's young(yet not daft enough) enough to sit on the bench for 2 years and watch the great Skuse show him the way a class midfielder performs before he's ready.

Don't know why we are looking at players like this, whilst Tabby is still available on a free. Bring back Tabb!

Ahhh! How refreshing! The off-season is hardly 40 hours old and on top of the still not having been put-to-sleep Dutch managerial rumor of Maurice Steijn, we now have the 1st of an likely ENDLESS! string of player-related "Ipswich Town linked with...." ehmmm 'Tooth Fairy Tales'??? all heard somewhere through the old proverbial grapevine of course. lol And what do you know? even that one is a Dutchman!

(Whom apart from some odd "Euro Goals" highlights I personally know next to nothing about as a player BTW!)

So anyway, speaking of the Dutch, they are excluding a few near customary (for all Nationalities) extreme minorities ohhh plus also them admonishing "Dutch Uncles" :-) then vastly a real nice, polite, likable & TOLERANT bunch ....as we at ITFC from a pure footballer perspective (Muhren, Thijssen, Reuser etc.) obviously personally very much can attest to. But I will let you know that it wasn't always quite like that though! As for instance in the later parts of the 17th century some of them 'Tulip-luvers' proved to be ehmmm extremely INTOLERANT!, in a pretty much unprecedented savage way for these here longitudes:

(You might be a little Skeptical by Nature, but this here uniquely eventful story is actually quite true!, as you can read here:)

http://www.historyextra.com/qa/power-hungry

So alas if you are REALLY REALLY irreversibly fed up with the largely fan-indifferent! / fan-disrespectful!, football incompetent! & just in general inherently clueless! current ITFC 'Regime'.... well then there are (as the above historical narrative and not the least home-made 'meme' says at the bottom ) indeed "OPTIONS"! :-) lol ... but ehmmm beware cause you literally got to have "The Stomach For It"! HaHaHaHa
